As per usual with trenitalia, issues upon issues. Can't change the app's language: it's stuck in English which doesn't let me see the news or promotions. Can't check in for regional trains when it's late: most regionals are late, and if you wait to see if it actually comes then you can't check in anymore. Marvellous experience as always, thank you Trenitalia
Reviews for Trenitalia
← Back to TrenitaliaThe app is fine for the most part. You can buy tickets online which is important because sometimes you cannot do it from the machine or ticket office (their payment system does not work well). However, if we are talkiing about the overall experience of using Trenitalia it is consistently bad and I would rate it as 1. You have constant delays, frequent strikes, and calncellations sometimes minutes before train departure an everyday relity. And the company does nothing to adress these proplems.
Clunky and not intuitive. Most functions are there but sometimes hard to find. E.g. the details of a connection can only be accessed when pushing the button, showing the delay. Also, I haven't found a way to get historical connection info, which would be nice if you'd like to pick up friends from the train station or if you'd need the info for other purposes.
I have the latest version 12.300, but a pop up says I have to update the app! or close. If I select update it takes me to Google store and there is no update. These incompetents have managed to break this app completely. Quando l'app non funziona le persone che hanno comprato un biglietto non possono viaggiare. Dovreste mantenere standard più elevati delle banche, ma non prendete le vostre responsabilità seriamente. Vi concentrate invece su sciocchezze come codice fiscale e check in!
This is app is designed for booking long distance journeys. It's very tedious for suburban booking. You have to provide exact times and the names of passengers. If you change your travel time you have to first create an amendment that offers trains much later than you want to travel but book it anyway and catch an earlier one. You can't pay for a train less than 10 mins before departure. Actual departure times and platforms are easy to check in the check in the app.
Doesn't work - still says Invalid login credentials, even after two attempts to reset
I booked my tickets, paid but a message said something like "purchasing cannot be processed right now". This happened twice. So, I paid but received no tickets. edit: I called multiple times the call center, filled a complaint form (this was difficult because it asks for a ticket id but in my case I didn't receive tickets). Also sent an email explaining everything. In the end, money were returned. Terrible app, great customer support service. 2/5 for the people in support
why do it simple if you can be complicated. This could have been the developers' motto. One example: why have a user name when there's an email that could be used for a login? Another one: you can remove your cc data, but you can't simply replace it. why? it should prompt to save your cc data when you make your next purchase, but it didn't.
I don't understand why they need all this information to buy a ticket when the vending machine at the station asks no questions. Alas the app is quite convenient.
Works fine for Frecciarossa. but Trenitalia, if there is a train strike, and there are routinely, there is no way to get a refund. it SHOULD happen automatically here, within the app, but you get a lengthy email with links that don't work. so they just take your money. so. My advice? Buy Frecciarossa tickets in advance, for the discount through this app. buy Trenitalia and local train tickets on site, on that day. For short hops, consider Italbus, comfortable, cheaper, good charging ports.
You cannot buy a ticket if you are less than five minutes away from the train's scheduled departure. Even if the train is delayed, you still can't buy a ticket because the time is based on the original scheduled departure, not the current one. If you buy a ticket on board, you'll pay an extra five euros.
In case of a strike the app lets you buy a ticket for the train that has long been canceled. There was no notification, nothing. I accidentally stumbled upon the "Train status" tab and found out my train was actually canceled and never departed. Not to mention there's no option to get a refund.
This app is a complete joke. I am a registered user with Trenitalia via a recognised email and password, and can use it regularly on my laptop using a Web browser. Unfortunately, the app refuses to accept my password (it's okay with my email). I have tried changing my email several times (and it works fine on my laptop) but - no matter what changes I make to my password - the app refuses to recognise it. Totally useless app
The moment you have to check multiple possible routes this app goes crazy, keeps changing the number of passengers back to 1, does not always remember the latest searches, automatically selects routes with 2min changes between trains by default (visible only if you look under "more details), proposes routes for which I can not buy tickets. But most of all, I was unable to pay because after confirming the payment request from my banking app the Trenitalia app would give an error.
Works really well. Search for routes and times, buy tickets. Super easy. You are also supposed to be able to cancel and change your tickets, but... The one time we got the station early, we got on an earlier train. In spite of three attempts, we could not change to the earlier route. This was also the one time we saw a conductor on multiple trips, And we got dinged 5 Euros per ticket just to change the ticket on the train. Basically because the app wouldn't allow the change.
Booked a return journey on the website on desktop. I had previously used this with no issue when I had booked on desktop and saved the journeys to the app back in December. However, now, after recently booking on desktop (and luckily saving hard copies of the tickets to my computer), if I input the ticket details on the app, it shows the journeys with the wrong dates. I have no idea why this is suddenly happening.
I used this app both last year and this year for vacations to Italy primarily with high-speed and local trains - I think it's pretty good. Easy to search and find routes, buy tickets, change times, see platform, etc. There's room for improvement like ability to retrieve tickets offline via the app, ability to access stops from the ticket itself, and maybe a tourist section to purchase the short-term tickets. I wish they'd replace the bad local apps (e.g. Naples) with this one.
Useless app! It does less than the website does. Only Italian residents can register; that's not clearly stated. The rest of us have to enter our personal info EVERY time we purchase a ticket. I was hoping to be able to: #1. Store my credit card and other info for purchasing a train ticket QUICKLY. #2. Set up notifications for the trains added to "my journeys". The calendar widget on the notification form only allows notifications for today. Uninstall.
Made our train travel much easier. If you're from the US, the US isn't in the list, you select Stati Uniti, not intuitive for USers. Once you've entered travel companions details once, they're easily added to new tickets. We only saw a ticket inspector once, they want the qr code for them to scan. To improve: if your journey has train changes, the change doesn't show on the ticket unless you open it, in the list it looks like a direct connection. We missed a connection because of this.
You can't register without selecting your county of birth from a dropdown list, but that list doesn't include the United States! EDIT: It's there, but it's under S (for Stati), not U or A. This seems odd since the list uses a mixture of Italian and English names, but in any case, I've upgraded my rating. The app itself seems to work well. Will edit further after we actually take a trip.
