For the past week, my phone has been randomly opening pages to game sites. I thought I had unintentionally downloaded an adware or other malicious app. Turns out that this only happens while I browse Tumblr. I don't even see an ad regarding the games, but it will suddenly interrupt my scrolling to open a games site page in my browser. This has happened at least once a day since the 13th. I nearly reset my phone thinking it was compromised.

i've been getting nothing but the same exact ad every two or three posts for well over a week now. i just refreshed my app and decided to count how many times i saw it in a row. 27. TWENTY SEVEN TIMES. i wish i was joking. i've been marking it as 'see this ad too often' every single time i see it and can confirm the feature is pointless lol. i get y'all need ads to keep the app free but you couldn't be more obnoxious about it. literally makes me not want to use the app

Wow, I returned to this app, and it works so much better now! Engagement is at your level. Ads don't bombard. The Report/Block features actually work. They are a bit of a learning curve, but worth the extra steps. Happy to return to Tumblr for my webcomic and artwork. I would give 5 stars however, the login process is still confusing.

An update and its broken tumblr - and not in a good way. every time I get a notification from a blog i have notifications/alerts turned on for I'll tap to look at it and try and go to their profile by tapping on their username and it freezes. I have to close the app, open it again, search up their username just to view their blog. AND sometimes when im scrolling through my dash and want to view the original poster's blog instead of who reblogged it, it'll just send me to who reblogged it.

I love the app, I do, I've had it since high school BUT it's been lagging and randomly opening to an ad through my browser. I thought it was my phone in general, so I've been deleting apps and clearing my phones cache, but it still lags and opens random "ads". I really don't want to have to delete this app, but if it still acts up like this, then deleting it might be the answer.

I had subscribed to the no ads app for the last couple of years because it was abou 35 bucks and that was fine over the course of 12 months. Now it just randomly doubled the cost to add a bunch of "features" that I be to interest in using. I don't need it want to "blaze" a post. All I want is NO ADS! Give us a lower tier subscription for JUST no ads.

while I prefer to browse on my phone, lately the app has been fully crashing my entire phone system at random. sometimes it's when I boot up the app, sometimes its after minutes of scrolling, but it always freezes the entire phone, my lock button doesn't even function when it happens. no other apps do this. Tumblr what the hell.

my experience so far is so-so. can't navigate through the menu and number direct me to where I want to go pretty sure I'm not getting my notifications according to my emails when I go to find them and treat them in order to be found I'm having a really rough time with the app finding a navigating through it and trying to figure it out it's just frustrating to me. plus someone I know said they didn't have to pay to be a member and they said this year is when they started I'm confused because I pa

newest update immediately makes my phone lag and freeze extremely frequently, even if the app is just open in the background. it's completely unusable at the moment. before this update it seemed like certain ads were causing freezes, but now it's happening no matter what. based on other recent reviews, i'm not the only person with this problem.

Stick to browser because the app freezes, blasts ads at full volume (that you can't turn off without paying), and it will overheat your phone in less than a minute. Edit: 9/21/25 Ads are aggressive, and they autoplay. Reporting the ads does nothing but push it behind the posts as your scrolling, so you can report them anymore. The app is slow, buggy, and continues to overheat devices to temperatures that burn my hands.

The app won't l9ad a thing for me lately. Its not my wifi, I've tested it several times. All other apps load just fine, including photos videos, and gifs. For some reason, tumblr on mobile won't load anything - even when I try to open it in my mobile browser app. This has been happening for at least a week now and I'm getting tired of not being able to use the app. On my laptop everything loads just fine, so its only the mobile versions that are having issues.

I don't know what changed with the recent Tumblr mobile update, but now almost every time I open the app my phone lags and nearly crashes even after closing the app. Closing and reopening the app does not fix this, nor does restarting my phone, and it's gotten to the point that the entire app has become unusable. I genuinely have no idea why this is happening after what appeared to be just a UI change. Just use the web browser version, mobile isn't worth the trouble.

Can we please stop adding clutter to the bottom menu, or at least add an option to customize which tabs you want (dashboard, search, messages, etc.)? Six different tabs is too much for an already bloated UI. The ads are also getting to be way too much, between the flashing lights, ads under ever two or so posts, and ads that randomly click off to a web page. Something needs to be done to clean up the app, stat.

Love Tumblr as a site, but the newest update, specifically the removal of the quick queue button has made the app borderline unusable for me. What used to be a single input is now 5 separate clicks for the same thing. I have no idea why they would do this, and if it doesn't go back to the way it was I'm gonna change to some other social media site. Also, have been getting lots of ads featuring gore lately that I don't want to see, and reporting the ads seems to do nothing.

Listen. I do like this app, but enough is enough. By no fault of their own, they're understaffed and in need of money. I get that. But at some point, in app ad reporting & service emails about their app crashing my phone, that end in bandaid fixes, no longer cut it. I'm posting after yet another crash that had my phone fully dead for 5 minutes. I'll deal with the messy desktop version over an app that almost killed my phone. It's not with the cost of a new phone.

Yet another update, and more glitching and bugs. Now it doesn't always send notifications when I get messages. Also now everytime I log in I have to go through and change my settings again and again. The app will freeze after a couple minutes and close whatever blog you're looking at and either reload and take me to home screen or it just closes out. The app has been getting worse lately, not better after the updates. this company really needs to find some talented developers

Getting inconsistent notifications for DMs is infuriating. I'm not one to ignore my friends, so it would be nice if the app did its very simple job and notified me when I get a message. Sometimes it does, but it fails to send a push notification when a DM is received far, FAR too often for my liking. I've checked both settings in my phone and the app, too, so I know this isn't my fault. Edit: dropping this to one star, not even support has answered this one for me

The app is incredibly buggy and glitchy. There used to be maybe one ad every 10-20 posts, now it's every third post and it's the same ad over and over. Search functions are wacked, mobile has less freedom than web (ex. Only 10 photos per post on mobile, up to 30 on web). It really sucks that this app's functionality is so bad, because it's really the only social media I can really tailor to what content I want to or don't want to see.

I've had this app on every phone I've owned since 2014 and I haven't had it freeze and glitch before. I'll be scrolling and the screen will start shaking, images/gifs/videos will start freaking out, and random letters in text will disappear before the app crashes and closes itself. I've uninstalled, wiped all tumblr related data, and re-downloaded, but to no avail. Haven't been able to use the app for more than a few minutes at a time for over a year.

The ads have gotten worse since last year, and are more aggressive. The worse ones are the ones that are flashy and overly animated, like the casino ones. I find them triggering as well. I'm uninstalling the app and using it through the browser instead. I liked the app, but I couldn't deal with the ads. Plus they slow down your phone.
