While the idea is really interesting, the user interface is extremely hard to navigate and proves to be pretty unfriendly. There is no trial, and you have to pay to view any profiles that like you. Since I created the account, there are 44 likes that are all blurred out, and when clicked on, the app prompts you to pay. I hesitate to pay for something I can't even see the profiles for. If the was a trial, sure. Otherwise, I'm not bothering to pay for completely blurred out profiles.
Reviews for Turn Up: Music, Dating & Chat
← Back to Turn Up: Music, Dating & ChatFirst I just want to say I love the idea around this kind of app: I've only used the application for about a day, most of it was setting up my profile. I didn't experience any issues when it came to choosing my favorite songs, albums, and artists; I also was able to enter my bio easily as well and I appreciate the larger character limit. But when it comes to matching with people I've had issues with the app being unable to locate any with my filters, it can be buggy but works sometimes.
I don't like the fact that the default trimming is short and you can't change the part of the song you want as your profile song. You should at least be able to do that like Instagram and Snapchat which is scroll/slide through the song and set what you want. And you should be able to be allowed to have unlimited connections WITHOUT premium. Meaning to can message whoever, whenever without limitations. It's very annoying and does not make me want to use the app.
App is great as a concept, but agree with other users. It's like 60% of the way there, to being something really great. Not a ton of users yet, so also find matching or finding quantity of profiles a bit lacklustre. I actually like the blind tests enough to do outside of dating the people who made them, so I wish we could do those "just for fun" without sending users notifications that we did them. Pricing overall is really cheap, so I've subscribed for 3 months to see how it goes.
Not the devs' fault, but too small of a user base. What is the devs' fault is the price of the premium subscriptions. In order to see people who've liked you, you have to pay almost $20 a month or get slightly more expensive ones that last longer. Great idea for an app, though. Would give a better rating if being able to see my likes was part of the cheaper subscription. It's supposed to be easier to use dating apps to enter a relationship, not harder.
This dating app is a pretty cool concept, and the execution is decent. It could use a bit more polish, but it's ok as is and price is more reasonable than other dating apps. Problems: Scammers and incomplete profiles, I've been getting multiple likes from scammers almost daily for about a week. Also there weren't many users on Feb 2024. I set my search distance to 60 miles, which is further than I wanted to, and I ran out of people in an afternoon.
As someone who listens to a ton of music, I love the idea of the app. The thing is, you can't see who likes you without paying. You can see someone liked you but their profile is blured out and in order to see their actual profile you have to pay. I get they need to make money but that's why you put daily limits and ads. Not just saying oh you can't see who likes you unless you may more than $10 a month. Yeah close the pop up pay wall as they said in a reply but you still can't see the profile.
Used the app for a day, started to figure it out, got my profile all set up and then for 2 days now all I've gotten is the "We are currently verifying your profile, please wait" message and cannot do anything within the app. Not to mention even the most basic feature require premium membership at $17+/month. Edit: i did email the developer, and my account was "verified" after 3 days, i guess they don't work on the weekends. I've also been thrown into the "verification" process 3 times now...
Good concept, but the music prompts could have been better. Like I don't even know what "music for a pogo" means. And I had to look up "eating a sandwich". Maybe some more practical questions would be better. Also I wish you could add your favorite albums. Other than that, there was literally 1 person in my area on this app. So maybe I'll come back to it if it gets a bit more popular, but until then I'll stick to the usual dating apps.
The concept is cool, and I did have a couple alright conversations but for the most part its nothing special. Definitely don't pay for premium as it's absolutely not worth it. It only took me about an hour to go through all available profiles and thats with the filters set to anyone within 800+ miles and 70+ years or under. That tells you there aren't many profiles to look through. For the past couple days since trying premium I've not found any new profiles to message. Stick to the free side.
Unable to add artists, songs, etc. to profile due to search function not working. Two matches with people so far that wanted to direct me off of the app to an encrypted messaging service, probably to promote their "personal" pages. Un able to set approximate location in permissions. Even though its an option, i could not continue until I set the permission as precise location. I do not like that. Not a good experience to start. The idea of the app seems decent though.
I can't speak for the messaging aspect of things, because there aren't many users in my area, but I love the concept of the app. My only complaint is that the non-music bio info is severely lacking; i think this would be a killer app if it had the options to put info like gender, sexuality, pronouns, political leanings, etc. that other apps have. I'm giving it two stars because, admittedly, that's a pretty a pretty big issue, but I hope to see it improve!
It's a really great app, and being improved, so might get even better. Has some glitches though, like refreshing while you're reading a profile, and then the profile disappears before you could react to it. Has some seller trash accounts, but I guess that can't be helped, the whole thing is kinda relaxed, and I really appreciate how much it focuses on music, and just connecting through that, without having to pay just to say hi to someone. Genuinely a good app for meeting new people.
It's an interesting concept; I like the profile customization and being able to search by genre/artist. However, I wish you could select a specific section of the song you wanted to feature. Also, a preview of how your picture displays on your profile would be a good idea, because the photos I upload keep getting cropped weirdly. I've also run into lots of bots on the app. Overall though, a good experience!
4 matches with a 30-year age-window in 100 miles. And 2 were scams. 😬 So, it's fairly useless. This app has been out for a while now, so it's time for the fake accounts to take over. 🤦♂️ Oh well. It was rather awkward to set up anyway. Why can't I click on a genre or band I see on someone's profile so I can quickly add or remove it? But it doesn't really matter when there's no one around. It had potential... but it failed.
(edit: I have uninstalled and reinstalled the app, cleared the cache, and made sure to enable app permissions and the bug is still persisting...) Seems like a cool app but I can't even get past the profile setup because every time I try to upload a profile photo (because you need at least 1) it doesn't upload and just keeps me on the same screen with no option to skip, retry, or add later. Huge bummer, seems like a glitch and needs fixed.
Great concept, but to see who likes your profile you have to pay. I've been seeing if there was a way to bot l tried to see if there was a way not to, but so far, there isn't. It's also expensive, the only way is by buying the more expensive packages, not even a free trial. Honestly was wanting to use this to connect with fans of an artist that's a little lesser known, but with the paywall, I really can't do that.
App is badass when it comes to music and relating to other music lovers. You can tell a lot about a person by their choice in music. Only reason for 4 stars is the fact you have to pay to see who has liked you. I get they gotta make $ somehow, but it really hinders your ability to link up with people. Also, a great feature to add might be an area that displays how long since the user has logged in. I feel some accounts haven't been opened in a long time but we're still shown as if it's active.
I really like the concept of the app. I think the blind tests are really fun. I have found myself inundated with bot accounts, scam accounts, and what appears to be real people looking to sell 'services'. Every single message I have gotten is from one of these, which makes time spent on the app feel misspent. I would love to find someone based on music taste, I think that's brilliant. But I fear it won't be here until they have better scam filtration
Developer went out of their way to successfully recover my account. I also enjoy how the app is focused on music tastes. Music is very important to me and it is a different and novel angle to connecting with someone compared to other online dating apps. The subscription price is reasonable and the app is well laid out. I only wish there were some more search filters, but given it's a newer app with a smaller userbase, it would almost certainly lead to fewer matches, so it's acceptable. 5 stars!
