Went from perfect to terrible, specifically with watching vods. Collections never have the vods in them no matter what. The app has been updated several times, and vods still aren't appearing in collections. Someone I follow has 36 vods in a collection, and when I open it, it says there's none. Please fix it. If I miss a stream, I can literally never watch it again due to this issue.
Reviews for Twitch: Live Streaming
Recent updates to the application have begun to follow a popular pattern where the application, if left to have permission to your notifications shade, will start to spam you in regards to multiple things you never signed up for notification on. As such, I've had to permanently disable this applications access to notifications because it chose to abuse that trust, and now I no longer get notifications when streamers go live, which is all I originally wanted notifications for.
This can be good and it can be not so good. I guess it depends on the weather. I rely on it for live chat during my own livestreams on the platform, and sometimes it just bombs hard. Sometimes it works well though, and I'm always grateful for those times, but the random disconnects, crashes, and absolutely baffling mobile subscription rules keep me from giving it any higher than an average rating.
I like it, but recently everytime I search someone's twitch account it just stays loading and won't show any results. I have to close the app and reopen it again in order for it to work. would actually like it if they could fix that. Another thing is the ads. There's about 2-5 ads before you can watch someone's livestream ((this is for some accounts, not all))
It was already annoying enough that I had to go into settings to change the quality every single time I open a stream, but with the newest update settings are bugged and I cannot access them at all. For such a big platform, Twitch cannot seem to figure out its mobile app. So many bugs and issues all the time.
Dec 9, 2024: Gave it another try after seeing reviews some things were improved. It's better. It didn't open blasting things in my face. The Following tab is very large and visible now. PIP works alright, and landscape mode can have chat to the side (you need tap some icon to see the full frame next to chat). Still would rather I had an option for it to open to the last tab I was viewing (Following). Still not interested in this new discovery tab *most* of the time. It's much less bad!
Ever since they changed the UI the app has been full of bugs. Video Playback literally just pause at random while the audio continues. If you open the sub, bits or any page while watching a stream, the video Playback will pause. Their "report a problem" options are not detailed and don't allow you to explain what might have caused the issue. It's almost as if this app was hastily reworked to compete with apps like Tiktok and Instagram, without testing their own app.
Whenever I'm watching a VOD, at the end of every ad break, the VOD keeps on starting over from the beginning. I can understand running ads for free users, but this is just a problem. It is a problem that has been going on for SEVERAL MONTHS as far as I can recall. To anyone who even cares to read the app store reviews: Please get around to fixing this ASAP.
Really unfortunate when they pushed Twitch stories that it completely FALLS apart. 🤦♀️ I am updating my app and hoping it fixes. But the only "fix" I ever found was completely clearing it out, which means logging out. That's not really a fix. It's so bizarre as I can throw clips into stories from PC but the mobile side has been a disaster right when I was getting really comfortable posting more in there. Stabilize it please!
Stream settings button stopped working. Playback speed works one time until you pause/switch streams/anything. After that, the sound plays at normal speed and skips ahead to sync with the faster video. Chromecast support is still shoddy. Android app can view 60fps streams very well. Chromecast almost never can. Seems to ping pong between "High" and "Source" quality, but it's usually just "High" quality. Screen casting your phone is still better than the actual Chromecast functionality.
