Went from perfect to terrible, specifically with watching vods. Collections never have the vods in them no matter what. The app has been updated several times, and vods still aren't appearing in collections. Someone I follow has 36 vods in a collection, and when I open it, it says there's none. Please fix it. If I miss a stream, I can literally never watch it again due to this issue.
Reviews for Twitch: Live Streaming
← Back to Twitch: Live StreamingRecent updates to the application have begun to follow a popular pattern where the application, if left to have permission to your notifications shade, will start to spam you in regards to multiple things you never signed up for notification on. As such, I've had to permanently disable this applications access to notifications because it chose to abuse that trust, and now I no longer get notifications when streamers go live, which is all I originally wanted notifications for.
This can be good and it can be not so good. I guess it depends on the weather. I rely on it for live chat during my own livestreams on the platform, and sometimes it just bombs hard. Sometimes it works well though, and I'm always grateful for those times, but the random disconnects, crashes, and absolutely baffling mobile subscription rules keep me from giving it any higher than an average rating.
I like it, but recently everytime I search someone's twitch account it just stays loading and won't show any results. I have to close the app and reopen it again in order for it to work. would actually like it if they could fix that. Another thing is the ads. There's about 2-5 ads before you can watch someone's livestream ((this is for some accounts, not all))
It was already annoying enough that I had to go into settings to change the quality every single time I open a stream, but with the newest update settings are bugged and I cannot access them at all. For such a big platform, Twitch cannot seem to figure out its mobile app. So many bugs and issues all the time.
Dec 9, 2024: Gave it another try after seeing reviews some things were improved. It's better. It didn't open blasting things in my face. The Following tab is very large and visible now. PIP works alright, and landscape mode can have chat to the side (you need tap some icon to see the full frame next to chat). Still would rather I had an option for it to open to the last tab I was viewing (Following). Still not interested in this new discovery tab *most* of the time. It's much less bad!
Ever since they changed the UI the app has been full of bugs. Video Playback literally just pause at random while the audio continues. If you open the sub, bits or any page while watching a stream, the video Playback will pause. Their "report a problem" options are not detailed and don't allow you to explain what might have caused the issue. It's almost as if this app was hastily reworked to compete with apps like Tiktok and Instagram, without testing their own app.
Whenever I'm watching a VOD, at the end of every ad break, the VOD keeps on starting over from the beginning. I can understand running ads for free users, but this is just a problem. It is a problem that has been going on for SEVERAL MONTHS as far as I can recall. To anyone who even cares to read the app store reviews: Please get around to fixing this ASAP.
Really unfortunate when they pushed Twitch stories that it completely FALLS apart. 🤦♀️ I am updating my app and hoping it fixes. But the only "fix" I ever found was completely clearing it out, which means logging out. That's not really a fix. It's so bizarre as I can throw clips into stories from PC but the mobile side has been a disaster right when I was getting really comfortable posting more in there. Stabilize it please!
Stream settings button stopped working. Playback speed works one time until you pause/switch streams/anything. After that, the sound plays at normal speed and skips ahead to sync with the faster video. Chromecast support is still shoddy. Android app can view 60fps streams very well. Chromecast almost never can. Seems to ping pong between "High" and "Source" quality, but it's usually just "High" quality. Screen casting your phone is still better than the actual Chromecast functionality.
Used to minimize a stream to check drops. Now I have to click into settings and I can hear the stream but not see it, and it buffers when I go back. Also I can't click the settings button in the stream window? How do I change quality? I don't need 1080p on my phone, and it makes it lag and stutter. Didn't have any of these issues before the last update.
Starting like a week ago, the whole app takes a lot of time to load or straight up, never decide to load. It's not my wifi because every other app/game works completely fine. Also, the chat on streams is working completely fine. Sometimes, the stream that im watching pauses, and I can't unpauses. Having ads every 5-10 minutes was already annoying , but now the whole app is unusuable. Don't have an ad blocker. Tried clearing the cache. Tried deleting and installing, but nothing works.
I don't want a landscape stream lazily stretched and blurred to a full portrait, especially when it's someone i don't care about because you can't get suggestions right. The following button has moved to the upper left, which is the least convenient place for the only mode i care about. Let following be my default. It also sometimes causes a bug where the suggested stream audio plays at the same time as the stream i actually want. But no, give us mod tools that suck instead.
I consistently use this app and consistently have problems. Not sure if it's just my device version, because I know it's not very common to cast Twitch to a TV. This feature is so bad on mobile that it's almost not even worth using. Have you ever tried it? Seriously try it. While typing/ dictating and casting, you can end up disconnecting from stream and hearing the audio of the stream coming through your phone. If you tried to multitask, the PiP is completely ineffective. Won't even re-enlarge.
The app is just overall clunky. It forces you to watch someone's live when you open it which is terribly annoying because then it will get stuck playing in the background while I struggle to find the streamer that I want. then when I do find them it's then playing the sound from both streams. Then it struggles to load the stream that I wanted though it had no problems loading the random live. There's no easy way to find the streamer that I want and it doesn't save what I've watched already.
An infuriating user experience from top to bottom. Pages often refresh, causing you to do actions you didn't intend (such as accidentally deleting clips/videos you didn't mean to delete). The homepage scroll is the most poorly implemented video scroll ever. Streams stutter and lag, and the app has a hard time loading videos in general. Genuinely just watch from desktop
Twitch refuses to allow me to change email addresses without using my old address. That domain name I purchased before the massive spam problem happened to 100% of all that end in dot xyz Those email addresses result in something unique. They are blacklisted for all of time. I will certainly die of old age first. Worse. The support form requires backclicking month by month from 2012 until 1970. That is around 500 clicks. A simple form that allows me to enter the year, the month and the day.
Fix the mobile streaming widget bubble. The mobile streaming widget barely works: when in landscape orientation it doesn't show the chat, or the camera, and hasn't for over a year at least. Now when I try to open the widget in either orientation with it not to the far left, it gets cut off by the right side of the screen. Also now when I try to close it in portrait orientation it blocks it from reaching the X at the bottom of the screen so I can't close it. Can you fix any of that at all?
The app feels great and looks pretty good, but after the recent update some of the pages don't work anymore. For 1 the drops page isn't easy to access and when you do use it you can't see the drops info or quickly go to a stream who has it active. And 2 the clips and shorts seem to be a little forced on you as if this is tictok, I'd rather it not be forced on me.
great app if you can afford to pay the absolutely ridiculous prices they ask for. unfortunately, if you can't afford to waste money you're gonna be watching 5 back-to-back 15 second ads every 10 minutes. it's unbearable. for streams that are doing drops, that number only goes up too. if they lowered the price to $10/month i would buy it, but the amount of ads running feels disrespectful anyway
