The app is absolute trash. When trying to view the cameras it just spins, trying to view and change the thermostat and making ANY sudden swipes by mistake breaks the entire thermostat. I had to change the batteries in the thermostat yesterday, turn it off, and wait 12 hours before I could turn it back on to ensure my house was cooling. Like others said, they'll take your money but service in any capacity is non existent.

Don't bother emailing the address they tell you to for additional help, they are no help and insist it's your phone that's the problem even if you have multiple devices android and apple with the same issues.
Any time it rains my phone is constantly getting alerts that people are detected but there's no one there. I've also been having to reset the cameras and the home base once a week because they keep saying "camera unavailable". It doesn't alert me when the cameras are down. I only know because I stop getting alerts when I walk into my home. Vivint is over priced mediocre equipment that fails to keep my home monitored after wasting $4,000!! UPDATE-8 MONTHS AND STILL NO RESPONSE!!!
The most recent update rendered our DVR feature almost completely useless. Now when I try to view our cameras, both at home and away from home on the app, my chances of ever getting live video or DVR is about 10%. We also noticed the events are no longer logging anything. I cannot see when our doorbell was rung, or when a package was delivered or anything. The way the app is now makes the whole system seems almost worthless. I also don't like the new layout.
May 2025: horrible app. when I try opening it, it freezes and doesn't get past the vivint logo. so frustrating. I want to see what's going on at my house but can't. HORRIBLE APP!!!!! It's not even worth the 1 star, if I could rate it a "-5" I would. don't waste your money. update: it is now September 2025, everything about this system is STILL horrible. Late notifications/alerts (sometimes I don't even get any), app doesn't open, playback doesn't work half the time. DO NOT BUY!!!
It doesn't really work well. I can arm and disarm my system, but it errors out every time I want to look at live cameras or review events my cameras recorded. What's the point if it doesn't work? Update: In response to the developer saying to contact for help, I've done this. Several times. And each time, the system will then work for 12 hours, then go back to not working. You all have a bigger issue. Still 1 star. Not changing until you do.
Connecting to the camera in app is way too delayed. When someone approaches my front door and I get an alert, I quickly try and see who is there. Then, the camera in the app takes forever to connect. By the time it connects, the person is gone. Everything else works optimal for the most part, unlocking doors, locking doors, connecting, or disconnecting sensors.
Since the app was updated, we can no longer view recorded clips or live video from ANY of our cameras unless we are within the range of our OWN wifi. Meaning, the doorbell camera is mostly useless now, since we cannot answer while at work or out and about. And if someone were breaking into my home, I wouldn't be able to see what all of the pop-up alerts were about until we are within range of our OWN wifi. Again, useless. What is the point of having cameras you cannot monitor?
Continues to be a problem. Had tech in my house for hours last two days. Issues persist. So many problems for years. Very inconsistent. Sometime great, sometimes terrible. Almost always buggy. I've done all troubleshooting, over and over with no effect. Updates seem to do nothing except to sometimes make it worse. They probably need to completely redo this app. And I have spent hours with tech support. Almost always a waste of time.
The app is horrible! We pay a good amount of money a month for a security system we can't use on the app. We can't view our cameras without it buffering, without the camera not working, can't use the rewind option as it takes forever! I wish we weren't in a contract, I would go back to the Ring as it worked better and was way cheaper!
Very frustrating. Either the app or the cameras are junk. I upgraded last year. The videos are pixelating and skips. The exact events that we need to see are skipped. Useless. And every morning when I check the cameras at 7am, half of the cameras just kept buffering and won't open. I can't watch it live. I have fiber optic internet so I know it's not that. I will not renew my contract. Very disappointing.
The new layout is unnecessarily busy for someone who doesn't use multiple services, the convenience to set and deactivate your alarm with a quick slide is gone. And now I'm getting random notices all day and night "your alarm is activated would you like to deactivate it" or vice versa. If I wanted to I would, what is the purpose of such random notifications?? And I've looked and googled. I cannot find a way to turn them off without turning off all notifications.
Only works ok. Definitely needs some tweaking to make the app more user friendly. All features don't work all the time and Vivant doesn't know how to correct. Don't sign the contract!!! Update April 2025 - ALL downhill. App barely works now. Can't tell if the system is armed or disarmed. Can't tell if the garage door is open or closed. Get notifications that doors are open when they're clearly not. Time for a whole new system.
Update 3/12/2025 The app is worse than ever. I can't retrieve any video recordings, and it skips around on the times. Fix it already! When we first bought the system everything had worked as it should. Now a couple years later we have had nothing but issues with both the app and the system. We paid entirely too much money for the garbage this has turned into. Wish there was a way to get a refund since it's not performing as it should. My advice? Don't waste your money with this system.
It worked well at first but now barely works at all. I can't load camera events, can't use 2 way communication through either of the cameras on any device, door lock and garage doesn't update status. Recently started getting duplicate notifications for every camera event. It's so annoying and so distracting with the fake notifications that I've stopped looking at them which defeats the whole purpose. Can't wait for my contract to be up, nothing works the way it's supposed to.
For me, right now, my problem is more of an app issue than equipment. Mine keeps saying someone is at your door, but no one is there. It happens all times o the night and wakes me up. There is no way to stop it, or I can't figure it out. I even tried to reduce the zone sensitivity thinking that would work , since that is what Google told me to do. It worked fine until the last update. App won't show some recordings either.
We have had vivint for 2 years now. The main issue that we have is with the app. It currently will not open for me on my phone, and the app is up to date in the Play Store. If I had to use my app to get in and out of my house, I would have a problem right now. Also, since the big update for the app, the button for my garage button from myQ disappeared. When I get a notification from someone in my driveway, they are gone before I am notified, and the video buffers.
Don't like the new layout, but at least it's crashing less often, and saying 'something went wrong' less frequently. It used to say that a lot in the thermostat. Now it just needs an option to turn the "someone's at your door" alert off completely. It's extremely annoying for it to go off every 2 seconds because you have contractors walking in and out all day long.
I gave this app one star because I paid for the DVR to have 24/7 video recording but I can't use it because when I try to look at past video from any camera, the app gets stuck buffering the video until it gives up. I spent money on equipment I can't use. EDIT: over the years, talked to several people from Vivint and still have issues. Contract is over in a couple of months. I will never use them again. Buyer beware!
The latest update causes the app to freeze, and you have to force stop it and then open it again for it to work. Also, video playback is hit and miss, and sometimes it will jump from the day you are scrolling to some previous day's feed. The video will also get stuck on a certain minute of the day, and you can't play another. Receive error of it can't play it. It worked better before the most recent update. Please fix this. Thank you.
