This app is incredible! If you are looking for a way to read and practice Japanese in varying contexts, you are going to want to check out this one! With 2 years spent living in Japan and feeling like I never reached fluency especially with reading due to the barrier of Kanji, this game has completely rekindled my desire to tackle Japanese and I feel that I am actually improving! I will be sharing this with my friends and family!

Amazing game to learn japanese. Beforehand I started learning with Duolingo and felt like "yeah I got this!". After switching to wagotabi I felt like "nope, I actually don't". I love how my understanding and ability to speak japanese has improved so much with this one. And I love how they implemented it so naturally in a game. Huge recommendation

This game is really amazing and cute. The pacing is really good sometimes i feel like I am learning a lot of complicate word and kanji but since I see them so often in the dialogues and exercise it dosent feel hard at all. I surprise myself with how much content I manage to memorize this way compared to what I learn with other video games or mangas. Normally I need to stop studying after about 30 minutes to 1 hour but I can do about 2 hours per session with this game.

I don't write reviews often, but I needed to thank the developers. As a self-taught learner I was having such a hard time with the alphabets. I felt like I was never going to be able to read or write, and I had tried several apps without success. This game is really engaging, and the fact that you are learning the symbols in context has made such a huge difference. Today I read and wrote my first sentence without any romaji help. You gave me back the hope that I can tackle this. Thanks!❤️🥹

The ultimate tool for learning Japanese. it doesn't get any better than this! You're constantly engaged in its learning process while having fun gameplay, which makes learning Japanese more natural and easier. This is how you should learn languages. This game made me able to actually understand Japanese people speak while watching YouTube videos in Japanese! Sugoi desu!

Absolutely LOVE this language game/app! A must play for anyone interested in starting their Japanese language journey. Perfect blend of learning and enough fun to keep you motivated to keep progressing. SRS system to help retain what you've learned and slowly weens you off english having instructions and hints in the japanese that you've learned with minigames to help further reinforce. Also learning more about Japanese geography and places of interest! Can't wait for more content to be added!!

The game is easy to understand! They teach the basics of communication, not just vocabulary. I've been studying Japanese for roughly 5 months & the immersion is amazing! I definitely have a better understanding of sentence structure & truly feel more confident in learning Japanese. Anyone who learned Hiragana should play this game to study next.

Wagotabi is like nothing I've ever played before! Not only was I able to learn Japanese verbs that always caused me trouble, but I was able to easily level up my Japanese reading ability, something that used to cause me stress! The sheer joy of walking around a mini version of Japan and interacting with all sorts of characters, doing quests and finding secrets, without realizing sometimes that I was using Japanese has been beyond anything I could have hoped or imagined! I can't wait for more! ❤️

I'm currently working on n3, and honestly, this is the best app I've found so far! This is the only game style learning app that is truly a game. You learn through quests and encounters, and there's ample opportunities for review! Highly recommend for any rpg lovers! Currently, only n5 with n4 coming soon, but I hope they get enough support to go on to more advanced material.

First of all, CUTE AF! I've been trying to learn Japanese for a while and have been to Japan several times. I'm a huge fan of gamifying things and this is right up my alley. I took a 4 week online course before but this is so much better because I can take my time and really absorb what I'm learning. Even though I'm starting being able to read hiragana, katakana and maybe 3 kanji, I'm still going through and not skipping around because it's just so fun!

played up to the latest update 4/2025, and this app is impressive. as a beginner, I couldn't recommend this enough. While the development is ongoing, what it has is incredible. the mini-game for kana definitely helped hammer in those, and the vocab match game still teaches me. the grammar explanations are well done, and the gameplay itself is incredibly immersive. I'll admit some parts are tough but worth it, and make sense when you figure them out. 10 stars, can't wait for further development.

Can't sing this games praises more! As someone who has used books like MNN and Genki (even taking 2 years worth of courses), having this as an immersion training companion would have been invaluable to me. Being forced to *gradually* use/read more and more Japanese as the game progresses makes learning Japanese grammar and vocab feel so natural! highly recommended for anyone starting to learn Japanese. And please keep adding more content, up to N1!

This game is fun, effective, and informative This goes beyond teaching just the language, but also including the local geography and culture of the areas you visit. With a one-time purchase, no ads, and the ability to play offline, this game checks EVERY BOX. No other tool, video, or game I've tried (save for the dictionary itself) has been as helpful for my language learning journey. Kudos to the developers, you've got something amazing here.

I have tried many different apps that try to 'gamify' learning Japanese, but I find this format to be really helpful. I've been learning Japanese vocab on and off for years, but now in just a month I feel like I've learned more in terms of grammar and sentence structures. It's nice that every new thing you learn is repeated in npc dialogue so you learn that way. I've also found that I can read faster now, which is nice.

Seriously, if you want to learn Japanese, get Wagotabi! This game is a solid 5 stars for me. The way they've designed the conversations is brilliant; it's super immersive and I love seeing how they branch out and get more complex the more you play. Learning Kanji integrated into the gameplay is fantastic too, makes it feel so much less like a chore. Oh, and big shoutout to the art style and music – gives me major vibes of that certain monster capture game, which definitely adds to the charm.

This is by far the best app I have used for learning Japanese! Sure, Duolingo has more vocabulary and whatnot at the moment, but Duo is awful when it comes to teaching about tense, politeness, and different verb forms. Wagotabi not only has a tool for explaining the differences, it also has you practice those skills in a fun, easy-to-learn way. I highly recommend Wagotabi for anyone looking to learn Japanese!

This app is AMAZING! これは凄い! (すごい)! yes, I learned this from the game. For someone wondering should you get this game, yes! Learn hiragana and katakana, which you can study in the game. There's a game mode for that. Once you get that down, you will begin your journey reading words and sentences. The one thing I like about this game is when you learn words, you have to interact (Like up, down, left, right, dog, cat etc .). That feeling you get when you start reading is amazing!

I love it so far, the game is very well organized and it introduces new vocabulary slowly to move the game foward. Beside from learning to recognize new words I can also learn how to write as well as listening to how it sounds. I feel like the developer of this app is an expert in language acquisition and the method they applied to help people learning japanese but also having fun is genius... highly recommended!!!

The developers worked very hard and it shows through every interaction and click. It has clearly been inspired by other games in the past and that is wonderful. I'm a new learner and found the demo engaging so I bought the full version. This is much more go at your pace and less "hey don't forget to open me for your streak" which is personally more my style. I am glad to have randomly come across this app on the playtime and hope they add more content.

Good for beginners, yet surprisingly immersive. More than rote memorization, it introduces words and then forces you to use them in dialogues. You can always step away to look up a word or review learned words with in-game drills, similar to Anki. But it's more satisfying to lean on memory and keep the flow of the game going. Try the demo to see for yourself. I'm only 3 hours in and while pretty basic, it's still deeper than Shashingo. Intrigued by the potential for expansion.
