Reviews for White Noise

← Back to White Noise

Used to be a good app, I paid for it years ago. Recently it's become unusable, the sounds are very choppy. They're not on other apps. Also, switching sounds is really quite awkward and is not intuitive.

completely unusable now. used to be great, audio is choppy frequently now, cutting in and out. even when it's behaving "well" there's random skips every couple of seconds. issue has been happening for months, hasn't been fixed and the developer doesn't seem to be interested in supporting it. edit: I bumped my review to 2 stars because despite my frustration with it being unstable now, I've had it for years and more than gotten my money's worth for the few dollars I paid. still needs to be fixed

Edit (2025) - I've discontinued use because of interactions with Android Auto. The app white noise starts automatically when I get in my car and the foreground audio service that talks to AA can't be killed without a reboot. I suspect they are specifying the wrong media type. Other annoyances - 1) you can't remove the default sounds and 2) Even on a paid version the White Noise Market still forces you to watch sketchy ads. Not acceptable.

I love this app. I use it literally every night with a little Bluetooth speaker. I especially like that I can create mixes. I like to layer rain sounds with something like Huge Waterfall for the bassy sound. I find that if I use only one sound, my brain will start to find patterns in it when it repeats, and that prevents me from sleeping. But with layered sounds, since they don't have the same duration, they rarely overlap each other in the same way, so my brain never finds any patterns.

This is really a great app and I originally had a five-star rating. However, after always having to sync my portable Bluetooth speaker to my phone to get the sound to play, I finally realized that this app is lacking one serious feature - casting to a Google home or another smart speaker. Surprisingly, I'm able to cast to my Chromecast, but not to any of my Google home speakers. Why?

Have been using this app for years w/o issue and loved it. With the latest update the sound from each ear (I use a lot with earbuds) fluctuates up and down and from left to right. I use this app to help me stay focused when reading etc. and this new change drives me crazy! More distracting than anything. Looked for a way to disable this in settings and cannot find anything. Very frustrating!

I love this app and we use it every night when we sleep... but it crashes a LOT lately. Almost every night, I wake up at some point and the app has completely shut itself down no matter which device we use. It's still nice to have, but annoying to be woken in the night by abrupt silence and have to fumble with a phone when you're half asleep.

The sound just randomly turns off in the middle of the night causing me to wake up. It looks like it may have stopped. The audio randomly stutters every now and then. Also there is an annoying post card thing that sometimes pops up when I open the app. For an app that is supposed to offer sound therapy, they sure managed to make it as ANNOYING as possible.

We use this app every single night. Love the variety of sounds and ability to create our own mix of sounds at different levels and so on. You can even make sounds directional if you cast to a stereo or surround capable speaker system. Start with "crickets chirping" plus "camp fire", then mix in one of the many "rain" sounds (or frogs...or waves...or flowing river sounds) and cast out to a nice set of speakers for a great "camp site" soundscape at bedtime.

Still an amazing application here at the end of 2023. It has been in my ear on most every flight over these years, sometimes in the terminals, camping trips, vacations, and sometimes at work when other audio is too distracting. Thank you for maintaining the look and feel of the UI. Also for not changing the selection list.

Alarm periodically craps out. I've used this for years, BUT I do have to use a back-up alarm. Periodically, the white noise will turn off in the middle of the night for no reason, and once in a while the alarms won't work...until you wake up, pick up the phone to figure out how you managed to oversleep....and THEN the alarm will ecide to go off. The white noise is great, but don't trust the alarm settings

Update 3/2023 : Major problem with my alarms not going off at the correct time. Currently they are going off about 30+ mins ahead of the set time. Using a pixel 7. Will rate 5 stars again soon as this is fixed. Using the alarms is one of the main reasons I use this app. Love it. Can set alarms, can set when sounds should end. Great for when traveling and don't have my fan like at my bedroom. Great app

This app is amazing, so many quality sounds and frequencies. I just found the free version recently but after discovering how much they offer for free, Ii just felt the need to support the developers and buy the upgraded version. I appreciate the fact that i wasn't harassed by ads in the free version and had access to such a big library of sounds. That's my way of buying you guys coffee. Cheers.

Search no more! I am not related or know the people who started the app but wanted to update my 5 star review after 10 years. This app is the best of its kind for sleep or to deaden the sound of noise around yourself to study or do work without distractions. I have used other apps for the same thing but this one provides an exceptional variety of sound choices compared to any other one.

(Edited-second part) 9/2014 - I use this all the time for relaxation, as well as sleep, and it's just wonderful. 2/2022 - I have had this app for many years now. It's still my go to app to sleep, deal with my anxiety, and just chill. They have a huge selection of top notch sounds. Really high quality stuff. Seamless looping - just fantastic. I recommend this to everyone!!

I like the ability to combine more than one type of noise. [Update: I've been using this app nightly for at least 5 years (maybe 7 or 8?), and it's really good.] I especially like the dimming feature (*slide finger up or down to make it brighter or dimmer). Also, the ability to combine sounds is excellent. I usually use some sort of heavy rain, fan, and a shower... something like that.

been using TM Soft's Whitenoise apps for 10 years now. Great sound. Great variability. Would love to make binaural beats on mobile app, not only on desktop. Would also love to see a way to instantly record a sound live and save it to the Sounds list so to use it in my own mixes with TMsoft sounds. I also wish the market wasn't so overwhelming. Finally, imagine if you could "follow" a theme of sounds, including crowd-sourced sounds, plus have a Day One-like sound journal of your travels? 😍

This app has become so heavy, it takes my battery from 77% to 11% when I leave it on overnight for sleep. And this is with a pixel five! I'm also frustrated with how this app requires users to have logged into their Google account! I want to use this app on one of my old phones, and being developers have made that nearly impossible. I've been user of this app for over 5 years, and I'm switching to something lighter and more nimble now.

This has been my go-to white noise app for years and I have recommended it to to numerous people. Unfortunately ever since the last update, the app will crash in the middle of the night and the sudden stoppage of sound often wakes me up. It seems to happen just about every night. And it doesn't seem like it's shutting down at the same time, sometimes it's two hours after I start it, other times I'll jolt awake at 3 or 4am to the sudden absence of sound. Please fix the constant crashes!!

I've used this for years....but the latest update now doesn't allow my actual alarm to sound. The settings are correct, as they've always been, to allow break in alarm sounds....but it's broken. 2 days of almost not waking up in time and thinking it was the alarm app, but it works fine when white noise isn't active, so, this is the culprit. C'mon guys ...pls fix this! I don't wanna find another app. 😭😭😭
