Exactly what I was looking for! Easy to scroll, fitted to screen, able to jump to where I was. It's perfect, thank you!
Reviews for xkcd - comics viewer
← Back to xkcd - comics viewerThis app is great, though it seems it can no longer view what if articles other than the first one anymore. Hopefully that can be fixed
Simple, easy to navigate, and no ads. Perfect. It would be nice if there was a way to send a donation to the app creator!
Love it! Would be great if it was flagged to be able to install on Android TV. Probably going to see about side loading it.
Clean app and easy to use. But wish the developer adds a way to sort the comics from newest to oldest and scroll through it fast without loading the images
Very good app. Easy to browse XKCD posts, easy to look at the alt texts, easy to get more in-depth explanations of the comics.
App is well-made and didn't take up a gigabyte of storage to install. The explainxkcd integration is a nice touch. Overall a very good way to read xkcd on mobile.
lost its mojo only showing reload button. this problem happens more and more. it has run on the Samsung S25 ultra , but now just shows a reload widget in the screen, for all comics. this issue persisted with a reinstall.
Looks great, and the ExplainXKCD integration is seemless. I especially like the variety of favorites lists.
Easy recommendation This app is smooth, has no ads (I haven't seen any), intuitive and is an overall amazing package. Only request I have of the developer is to allow an offline mode. Great job! Edit: Thank you for the offline mode! This fixes everything 🤞
Great App really amazing! It does everything you could wish for, looks organized and clean with a lot of customizability. This is the best xkcd/"what if" viewer i have found thus far.
This app is better than it has any right to be! Incomparable (because of how much better it is) to its alternatives. Everything is perfect. I especially love that the dates use the xkcd typeface. Congrats!
I kept browsing random comics until this viewer app tried to open xkcd 404 when I realized I should submit this bug report. The comic screen simply shows a loading icon and none of the buttons in the dropdown menu works. (They simply dont do anything. Luckily this doesnt crash the app)
Gotta tap on an image before you can zoom in. That's a little weird, but overall it's a good app. It has some features I wouldn't have thought of, like listing special edition comics that are no longer accessible
Precisely what I was looking for. I'd like to warn the developer that I experienced a crash right away when clicking "more details" on the first loaded comic, but it's been smooth sailing ever since. So, likely some initialization weirdness. Thank you for your work.
Here's what's in this free app: no ads, dark mode, very fast loading, intuitive controls, solid search, useful options with no unnecessary bloat...this is a case study in excellent app design. Sure, it's a simple task, but it does its humble job flawlessly and that's surprisingly hard to find. Well done, author - keep up the good work! Maybe give some pointers to the companies spending millions to make much shittier apps.
In short a reasonable viewer with usability issues. Have to tap comic before zoom or pan work; should be interactive immediately. Calling extra text 'Title' is confusing and using long press to show it is slow. Nav doesn't show when last comic reached, must assume failure to show next comic is the end as opposed to a glitch. The way 'extra' works makes no sense, nor what that even is. Glaring red heart is A) way too big, B) obtrusive in dark mode.
EDIT: Immersive xkcd reader app with lots of interesting features which, taken as an individual technical achievement, is exceptional. However my personal use-case is that I just want to see the latest comic and then be shown a random selection of comics when I'm waiting for a bus or on the loo, therefore the lack of a "random" button is a problem for me (shaking is a cool function, but awkward in practice). I suspect this may be an issue for other users too, hence this review and feedback.
Have used the app for 15 minutey, already absolutely love the it. I will change to 5 stars as soon as there is a random button (shaking is very akward). Another idea: dark mode for comics as well: map the white background to dark grey and the black to light gray (not just invert the comics). Also I am missing an option to download all comics for offline access. Edit: maybe move the date to the middle and put a shuffle button to the left to keep the symmetry. Otherwise fair point.
The XKCD browser I used for years doesn't seem to be available for my new phone (Pixel 9 foldable) so I tried this. It has some cute features, but I don't seem to be able to zoom, so the comics are hard for me to read without glasses. Putting the rollover text before the comic is an odd choice too. I'm not sure I'll keep this app.
