Buggy app. I really wanted to like this app but it's nearly unusable. As long as you're adding products in their list, it works fine. If you add anything in the "Other" category and try to change the description, it won't save the information you put in. It just goes back to "Other". Very frustrating.
Reviews for Yard Mastery: DIY Lawn Care
← Back to Yard Mastery: DIY Lawn CareNice app. Like the electronic journal but the journal entries need to be editable and deletable. I accidentally ended up with extra entries on the same day as I was figuring out how to use the app and now I can't remove them. But I don't expect that to be a problem going forward now that I know what I'm doing.
Love where the app is going. Would wish to see a 5 day soil temp reading as well as current temperature, and recommended waterings for healthy grass, both in shade and full sun, also a weed identification chart, as well as grass identification chart. Maybe a resources section. I think it's a great start and the journal is much needed. Thank you for all the hard work and effort I know this takes
Last year the app was great. Started using it again this spring and I no longer like it or use it. The calendar function is now bad. I used to be able to open the calendar, go into list view and I could scroll through the days and see everything I did on any day. At first I thought that things I had done were somehow deleted. It turns out that I now need to open a folder under the day to see what I had done. Calendar view is worse to navigate through. Back to using Excel!
I've noticed a few things that need a couple tweaks. The "next application" for pre emergents on the main page. If you already put this in a journal entry with a mow or another fertilizer application, it makes a redundant journal entry. It would be nice if you would be asked if you want to make a journal entry for this application after you get the application complete box. The journal months are alphabetically ordered, not chronological ordered
I am super glad Allyn Hane and his team are developing this app! It is going to be fantastic!! Only things I think could be improved at the moment is the drop-down menus and what you can choose. I.e. for post-emergent I recently just sprayed image weed killer (generic post-em) and that type of thing is not an option on there. Stuff like that. Love the soil temps, though!!! Keep it up, guys!
Good app to keep a journal, but unfortunately the journal is mostly where I see issues. After the revamp done to the journal, only a small line to see each date, annoying and I own one of the biggest screen phones available, should've left that alone. Then if you look at previous history, when you click the back button, it goes back to the most recent journal addition, instead of showing you what you did back 6 months ago which is what you're checking. About to leave the app, to my paper journal
love the journal. I make entries on-the-fly for mowings and product applications. I don't have to remember when I did something, I can just look it up. The soil temps in the app let me know when to lay down my preemergent. The app reminds me of appropriate times to apply fertilizers and other products. Plus, I have my zones & square footages on aerial maps right in my phone! How great is that???
Just started (Day One) with the app and it's useful. I love that I can have my journal and the soil temp in the palm of my hand. I need to download the app on my tablet as well - I hope that the account I created with my phone syncs with my tablet. Otherwise having the journal feature will not be as useless. (4/5/20): One correction, I wish there was MORE viewable access when using the journal. The product/application screen uses TOO MUCH SPACE.
Easy app to use and navigate. They've worked out the major issues from previous reviews, as I haven't had any. Ordering from the app is simple as well. I ordered the Bio-Stem pack and was very surprised my items were shipped within a few hours. No stickers, but they were sold out-- which is probably why I didn't receive any. Products very easy to use and can't wait to see the results in the coming weeks. I've followed the LCN on YouTube the last couple years and have upped my lawn care game.
The application is great for tracking your home lawn care. I use it mostly for tracking when I put my applications down and record weather data and ground temps if needed. I would have given the Yardmastry app a higher rating but I've come to notice a few bugs. The journal entry feature, the Months are not in Calendar order, they are in alphabetical order so April is the first month instead of the 4th. The calendar should show most recent date at the top. It also keeps logging me out.
I like the ability to add pictures to the journal. When takling trouble spots in the lawn that don't seem to improve, it is nice to objectively look back and observe the slow changes over time. What I find frustrating is that I have had a Yard Mastery shopping account that will not for some reason, sync with the app, and to order within the app, it won't recognize I have been a customer. I thought shopping and especially tracking orders would be more convenient.
Good concept, but a lot of problems. You have to log in every time you change pages on the app or look at another app. This is annoying. The calendar notices you set will just change to current date instead of tracking when things were done. I totally understand pushing your products, but let us put notes in for other products we use. I am uninstalling since my notebook provides better results. Lastly, you sign in and when done using the app, you have to restart the phone to leave the app.
So far so good! I understand the app is in early beta. I like the digital journal as well as the average soil temp. However, deleting a journal entry is possible by swiping it to the left. But there is no indication that that is what you have to do. So some folks may not know that you have to do this as opposed to, say, a long press. Also, I get a database error message when I try to enter in notes in a journal entry that are 256 characters or longer. 255 characters saves just fine. It appears as if the notes field is set to a varchar(255). So I feel that the field should either be set to a "text()/mediumtext()" or the UI should cap the entry box to 255 characters so that the user cannot type more than that. (sorry, my software developer side is showing!)
I like the enhancements being made lately so look forward to the continued development. I tried to upload pictures today and it wouldn't let me tag multiple pictures at the same time and upload them all at once so that was a bit of a bummer. I am using some non YM products and I would have expected at least to manually add them in instead of using 'other' and I found the measurements/rate selection to be a bit confusing. I have some that are powder, liquid, granular.
Good app. Something I noticed - When you go in and create a journal entry, it creates it twice. Had to delete one of them. Not sure if others have this problem as well. After you enter all your data in the journal entry, what action actually creates the journal entry is unclear. There is a back arrow and the journal entry button itself is actionable. Also, the ability to specify time when making journal entries would be nice. Right now it defaults to the time when I enter it.
Lots of sales pitching , buy this , buy that. I didn't like how you couldn't back out of the application by using the usual home screen arrow. You have to press the home button to get out of the app. Any app that doesn't allow me to back out/close it I usually end up deleting it from my galaxy s22+. It didn't really offer me anything I needed , other than soil temp but I can get that 100 different ways. It may be helpful to some but definitely not a necessity on my phone.
I used to love the app until they updated it this spring. There have been almost no good ratings since then. I can no longer view the calendar or my journal. I used to add other things to the calendar such as when I sprayed my home for bugs, or applied additional fungal or iron treatments to my yard. I have been following the LCN for years and using his products, but I will not be using the app anymore. I will check back later to see if they fixed it... if not I will be deleting it.
Requires sign-in almost every time I open the app. Often when already wearing ppe and need to log chemical application. Always pushing their own products. Missing a log of the big name competitors for application tracking. Rate logging and product logging is sub-par. Sadly there aren't many if any other apps out there for residential tracking so I stick with it.
When trying to order a product like fertilizer it does not show you the price unless you add it in the cart. Then after you purchase the fertilizer or any product it does not tell you at all the estimated time of arrival and the app makes you download another app shop to supposedly track the purchase. I can not still after 30 minutes find when will my purchase arrive. The app has too many flaws like you can not go back. Please do not order anything. They do not have a phone to call either.
