Reviews for YouMail: Block Spam on Android

Love this app! It's free and it doesn't just block scam calls but makes them think your number is out of service so they stop calling. I have it set to block non contacts. If I get a call, I think is important that's not in my contacts, I can always add it and call them back or lower the setting. I was getting calls everyday from different numbers and if they can't leave a message, then must not be important. With this app I haven't had any scam calls for the last week.

Good Free version, but not good enough for paid premium version. It doesn't work through automobile Bluetooth, so you have to turn off your phone's Bluetooth mode in order to hear your messages. Why would you pay money to go through that exercise every time you're in the car? If that problem was fixed, I would definitely step up to the premium version.

What's going on, there are calls getting through that are not in my contact list. The reason i chose this app was to keep these telemarketers and spammers from annoying me with this craziness. It worked very well for quite some time, but now i might as well not have it. Is this your way of forcing users to BUY the upgrade and if so, that won't be happening.

There should be more free features on the app. It lost the forwarding another account and can only do 20 visiual text on voice mails a month. I have a fixed budget and don't have extra cash to spend. I like the app and it has helped with the annoying phone calls. But from time to time the phone calls get through. The Voicemail box is saying from the messges, it is full and you are price and money gouging for people to buy more memory for the Voicemail.

I have been using this app for years. As of today they removed the only feature that I used this app for. You can no longer block calls outside of your contact list without paying for premium. I'm happy to pay for apps but a monthly fee for basic phone functionality isn't something I'm willing to do. I recommend others not encourage this either. I'll be uninstalling and finding an alternative. UPDATE - You confirm exactly what I just said, but preface it with "no".

Excellent free (basic) service! As a customer for several years now I'm pretty disappointed that it's been almost a year since customer support told me they were going to fix the lack of a notification for for Pixel / Android phones. They said they were aware of it, but it's still not fixed. UPDATE NOV 2023: I have a notification badge! I hope it's back for good!

I left for a while to try other blockers and none of them compare. Most of them do less and charge you for it, some of them charge crazy high amounts just to do what you thought they already did. This is the first one to fully deliver what it claims it offers and not have hidden fees. Sure, it isn't perfect and doesn't get 100% of the crazy amount of spam calls my phone gets, but I don't think I'll ever go back.

Loving this app!! I only have the free version, and it's already kept spam voicemail out of my inbox!! I also love that I can leave a personalized greeting specifically for a certain person in addition to my regular voicemail message!! Also, it transcribes your voicemail so I can just read it instead of having to try and listen to it when I'm in a noisy room, or around a bunch of people!

Using free version to try and decide whether I want to get the premium version. Blocking works pretty well. A couple of issues. 1st, the incoming messages are not dated. Odd. 2nd, the blue phone handset icon on message page overlaps the Incoming message phone number, making it difficult to read. If the last digit is a 6, 9, or 0, you basically have to guess. UPDATE: After giving YouMail free version a lengthy trial, I have upgraded to the paid version and pleased.

I've had the free version for quite some time and loved it.... until now. Had an issue I needed help with, but the only support you can get with the free version is from a bot that could not answer my question. That's pretty sad. Not even an option to email, let alone call. So, if you are looking for a voicemail app that doesn't require you to pay for help when you need it, look elsewhere. Youmail is only interested in your money. Time to find a new app or go back to my carrier's voicemail.

It's a fine app. I would be happy to pay a one time cost to upgrade to premium, but asking for a subscription for a voicemail service is ridiculous. Especially charging what they do: $70+ or $140+ per year depending on plan. I am so tired of everything being a subscription. They want over a hundred dollars a year to store a few dozen voicemails for me? Yeah sure, it stores up to 1k, but it would take me years to get that many voicemails, yet the cost is the same regardless. So frustrating.

Terrible app!!! First of all I believe they are selling our info to spanner as we've never had so many spammers call until we got this app. We deleted it for years and when reinstalled - same thing again. Tons of spammers. Which is their way of trying to make it look like they're saving you. The app takes FOREVER to load and most of the time doesn't at all. I had to go back to paying for it to get it to work. Now it's doing the same thing again even with the paid version. SCAM APP!!!!

Functions, barely. Doesn't honor Do Not Disturb settings, or call volume, so calls ring at full volume 24/7. Frequently rings through without displaying anything and doesn't allow you to pick up or end the call. It basically breaks every other function of a phone call, while blocking spam. Edit: YouMail has contacted me to work on resolving these issues

I loved YouMail at first. It did exactly what it stated in the description of this app. But since late August I can't sync coz it continues to say Network Error over and Over again and again.. I bought the Essential package because I used to love this app. But it's still not letting me do anything in settings and it's not working anymore. Even my contacts can't leave messages. I can't change any type of settings, when I try it says network error til this day :( Help Please

I love that my calls are screened for potential spam calls. I was also allowed an additional phone number for personal or business calls. As a side note: If the caller isn't in your phone's contacts, the caller is screened and your phone won't ring, they can leave a voicemail. All spam or blocked calls do not ring. There are additional options depending on your subscription. I find the fees reasonably priced.

Doesn't work with GOOGLE FI, but I did use and pay for it with my previous carrier (Cricket). It will block most spam calls but it will also block calls that people report as spam such as your bank, schools, credit cards, etc, etc, so you might miss a call especially if they don't leave a message. As long as you add any numbers you need to hear from they will get through.

I really wish the developers would just leave this app alone and stop trying to re-invent the wheel. I've had nothing but intermittent problems since YouMail changed their business model. And trying to get help through chat on the website is non-existent. No matter what option or setting I choose, unknown callers still slip through to my voicemail. Uninstalled, reinstalled, deactivated, reactivated, and toggled all settings every way possible. Nothing helps. I'm basically paying you for nothing.

EDIT: thought I would try again months later, and the exact same thing happened. worked for about a couple weeks and then suddenly stopped. scam calls kept coming through, my caller ID even flagged as such, and the call logs within youmail app were days out of date. It just stopped working. I verified that all of the activation stuff was correct. But I started getting scam calls again and when I checked the history in youmail, it didn't even have the most recent call logs It was days behind

Wish I could leave a positive review, but the application lured me into a purchase by promising transcription of voicemails up to 3 minutes in length, an option that disappears once subscribed. The option is replaced with a message telling you that you should instead just listen to the voicemail, which is a bit of a black eye on an otherwise useful app.

Decent But Needs Much Improvement Navigation isn't intuitive. You can't answer calls with Bluetooth or hang up with Bluetooth if the number isn't one of your contacts. Customer service seems like AI in emails and often won't work from your phone. Maybe after sending one message, it blocks you from being and to send another. But options are very limited for an alternative voicemail service and ATT's is terrible now so this is the best you'll find.
