So far I like the app, I find that it is really useful as someone who used to play guitar alot and is trying to get back into it. I notice occasionally it doesn't properly detect my chords even if I'm playing it right but this is thankfully rare. I also don't like that alot of the early songs you learn are the "simplified" version which doesn't sound like the song at all, I say go all the way or nothing. Worst part is they force you into a yearly subscription with no option to get out.
Reviews for Yousician: Learn & Play Guitar
← Back to Yousician: Learn & Play GuitarIt seems like a great learning app. However, the song getting interrupted 30 seconds in is REALLY annoying but I guess that's how they get you to pay $139.99 a year to get rid of it! Would be MUCH nicer to be able to pay monthly. I'm waaaay too poor to pay that at once! Also, maybe it's just my mic, but sometimes I'll pluck the string it wants me to, and it'll still mark that I missed it. Also, kind of annoying.
I love this so much! it's a great thing to start learning guitar with. I love that you can go at your own pace, and even if you do go slow, you see your progress, and how you evolve. my only complaint, would be that until you get the premium subscription, your progress suddenly stops, and you can't play any of the extra random free songs, because they cover content that you haven't learned. other than that, amazing!
It seems like it would be a great app if they didn't set the price so high. The premium is just not worth the cost at all, especially if you can't afford the annual cost all at once. The free version has practically nothing you can do in it And it requires pitch exercises before even doing one single warm up for the singing portion, which is insane. It also REQUIRES an annual subscription to get the free trial at all, so cancel one day late and pony up $140. majorly predatory
Please Please try to team up with original artists. This app is beyond amazing, however, the vocals are crippling the desire to play, on more than half of the songs. I would love full versions and melodies to more songs too, but otherwise I have nothing else negative whatsoever to say. you guys are really rocking it, and thanks to this app so am I. I have a theory on how you could make an incredible amount of subscribers too
Just started a few days ago. Not bad, love how it asks for my preferred music genre and adapts accordingly. Sadly, doesn't always seem to pick up when I play the notes. Have to pick at the strings harder than I'd like, just for the app to acknowledge I'm playing them. And even then, sometimes it thinks I'm not getting the timing right.
This app is fantastic when it works! But, most of the time, it doesn't!30% human error, 70% Yelling ...revised: I found the perfect setting to correct this problem. connect headset prior to booting app. Once opened, turn to half volume and place one earpiece in front of your device and keep the other in/on your ear. I prefer open air Bluetooth set so I can listen to surroundings with both ears as well as the device. open air headsets rest on the outside of your ears instead of having buds in.
Used to love this app but it glitches so hard now it's impossible to use. I've updated and restarted my phone- still randomly pauses out of nowhere multiple times during one song. I know there's a setting that has it pause on wrong notes; it's not that. It will happen even if I'm playing perfectly. I've given it time, it's been many months now. Real sad about it.
I don't trust Youscian. I've been teaching myself to play guitar using the app and the last couple of days when I practice, I keep being told im too early, too late, or missed a note all together which was very confusing bc it'll mark the note as red when I know im correct. I play 2 instruments proficiently, so my timing is pretty good. Today, I let the song run & it said I hit notes correctly even tho I wasn't playing. Also, the tuner is poor quality and often wrong. you can hear it
It's great. It's really helpful if you're a beginner, though maybe it'd just be my phone, but it can't pick up my guitar sometimes. It gets annoying but doesn't happen frequently. Edit: I thought I could at least get by lesson 2 without paying, but alas, I'm stuck with the basics, daily sessions, and songs I have played before.
I like the concept and theory of how this should work, but I also find the app picks up notes about 50 percent of the time. I almost have to turn volume off to get any notes picked up, and even then it is rough. I tried wearing headphones, but the delay is pretty bad and unplayable. unfortunately I probably won't continue past the free trial due to the volume and mic issues.
Used this app in the past for free a few years ago. It was fine then, except sometimes it didn't read my notes all of the time, you only got about a half hour or less of lessons a day, and the exercises felt like guitar hero but with generic songs. Took a break from it for a while because of those reasons and I instead tried learning real songs using free tabs online. Decided to come back to the app and now the free option is gone.
It's Ok for beginners and intermediate players, but not enough material to go past that. There are very advanced songs, but no tutorials on how to play the advanced parts and techniques. Also, extremely frustrating when they remove your favorite songs, especially some that were just added and you had voted for. For example, why did you remove High hopes by Pink Floyd and Would by Alice in chains???
I've had yousician in the past. Good app for beginners. does build confidence in learning. However I've used the app for two years, quit and came back. it's now almost double the price, and if you only buy the premium account your access to songs (that were previously available) are cut in half. I regret renewing my account for $89.95 plus tax. That price use to to get you full access. I think the upgrade in price is not worth the limited song list. At almost $180 a year the app should be better
This was cool at first. But now it is boring. The "daily session" is lame... The tuner is cool, the warm up is cool... and then... nothing. There needs to be more guidance at that point. Song suggestions that fit with what I've learned. I paid $200 for this app and am completely disappointed... it is confusing. And under genre, there is no Christian option.
Now I know why the subscription is so expensive. The amount of ads they buy to sell this app. I have seen so many Yousician ads after installing this. I do like the way they visualize the strings and notes to play. The app listening to you play I don't like. It isn't clear how or if you can stop the listening "feature" of the app. I think the song variety is garbage, it is trailered to people wanting to learn pop music. Probably what the majority of people want, just not me. This for beginners.
I'm a beginner and so far the lessons themselves are pretty helpful, but the constant ads are so god damn annoying. Literally every 2 minutes I get them. Fine, whatever, I'd usually just brush them off, especially in mobile apps, but they pop up WHILE I'm practicing and then I just have to start the lesson I'm on all over again. I often don't care enough to write reviews, but this pissed me off to the point where I nearly snapped my strings in rage. Download if you want to break your guitar.
Was my favorite app because I was able to to learn with the free option with 15 minutes a day limit; I had no problem. I also loved no ads. It was great to follow a step by step for beginners. I wasn't consistent due to responsibilities and school. But now restrictions on free option to force to pay membership it disappointing. I don't want to ask my parents for money with all the bills they still have to pay and save money. I'll be looking for another way to learn. It was nice while it lasted.
Another app that tricks you into downloading it without telling you is a subscription based app. It hides the $135 subscription fee after your 7 day free trial by including it in the "in app purchases". In app purchases is generally considered to be extras. Like gold in a game, it armor for your pet whatever. Not the monthly or annual subscription fee! That's should be address by itself, not lumped in with all the various random charges that can be applied.
For the first section that was available, I think it was pretty beginner friendly. There's a daily tracker to remind you to practice, but I don't feel like it's overly pushy. That's about as far as I got, however, because the sections following all seem to require making a subscription payment. I'm just starting out, why would I give money to something that I haven't even used for a week? I understand there's probably a lot of licensing and legal stuff, but it's still unfortunate.
