Great app. Ive found lots of listings so easily! I just dont care for how deceptive the sellers are, using the wide-angle camera lens when displaying their properties. Then, when you go to see the actual property, the "master bedroom" is the size of a closet and you can't turn around in the kitchen lol!! I've seen too many of these, but it's not Zillow's fault. Maybe Zillow could implement a policy which prohibits a seller from practicing this form of LYING on their wonderful listing site.
Reviews for Zillow: Homes For Sale & Rent
← Back to Zillow: Homes For Sale & RentI'll be fair and say that I don't know if this is an "app issue" or just me being signed up with them, but I'm getting bombarded with emails daily. I've tried to unsubscribe through their emails and turned off the notifications on the app but alas, more emails. I'm not trying to slam anyone, just explaining what I've been expecting. Aside from that, the app is really nice. Lots of options and easy to use. Good information about the houses too. *UPDATE: They fixed my issue within mins of posting.
A lot of bugs. Basically forced to use the app with online searches. Once the app link is clicked, only a minority of the time does the app open appropriately. I typically get a white screen as others have described. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app with the same result. I just really wish when choosing a Zillow link online, you aren't forced to use this unreliable app.
One thing I love about this is the simple ability to zoom in on the photos. The mobile site is easier to navigate though, and the app has a MAJOR downfall when it comes to searching for houses. If you're using map view and you zoom in / out, or scroll the map over to a different neighborhood, the app tries to follow you and keeps displaying the next closest house, marking it as "Seen" / light red when you've never looked at it. It should only do that if clicked on. Back to the website for me...
For the past few months now, the app simply does not work when you apply any filters to your search... it just comes back with "request error" and shows nothing, asking to reset all filters even when there are several homes in the map area that fit the filters. Very infrequently, it will actually work but as soon as you move the map in a way it doesn't like, back to "request error". And even if you reset the filters, it does the same "request error" until you clear the cache.
I can't even log in anymore. I attempted to open a ticket through the app and it's saying I have no internet connection, which I do. It was working fine until a few weeks back. I'm assuming an update broke something because the app is completely useless now. I can't open up any listings. Any notifications will not load once clicked. Please fix whatever you broke.
Most houses the app tells me about are "coming soon" or don't have any interior pictures of the house. I don't want to wait for these to be forthcoming and the entire thing is probably just a ploy to put it out there ahead of time to drop the price when it opens for bids so you think you're getting a value. The app is advertised to give power to buyers, but sellers still have it all. If you say there's a bed, a bath and a basement, there better be at least a pic of each before it posts, period.
While the map features and such are great, it is quite annoying when you want your alerts on to catch new stuff coming available but you keep getting alerts to houses that don't even come close to matching the search filters you have set. For example, I have a filter set to property with no less than 5 acres, but I keep getting alerts for houses in town with less than a half acre lot.
There needs to be more filters. When you search for a condo in Florida, you have to read all descriptions first to find out if it's 55+. It's the worst! Also the worst is that there is no filter for pets. Again, you have to read all the bs before considering price and looks. Personally I like to look at price and then pictures before reading the description. I can't be the only one. Also lacking filters like patio/balcony, washer/dryer in unit. This app really wastes a lot of time!
For the past several years, Zillow was my Go To real estate search app; it used to be easy to use, quick and accurate, and I recommended it to all my friends. Over the past year or so it has deteriorated to the point where now it won't even re filter or re sort at all. It randomly lists only some properties in my search area, and prioritizes new construction listings even when I deselect them. Hope they 'sort' out their bugs soon. I miss their reliability.
I used to love Zillow. I could easily organize homes in folders based on my different searches and locations. It was so easy!! Now it's just a endless scroll with no organization or way to easily sort. Sure, they give you sort options but they are useless (who sorts by lot size or year built?) I tried using the tags but there is no way to easily see just the houses with that tag. Zillow you are a shell of what you once were. I'll find other apps with better tools. I'm done with you.
Edit: now I can't even sign in. Nothing happens when I enter my email address. But somehow, I still get listing updates (which I cannot access). I can't believe this is still happening. What a wreck of an app. There must've been an app update. The app has barely worked (if at all) for the past 3-4 weeks. Can't search, can't view saved searches, blank white screen when opening a link, it's unusable.
I've used zillow for years, weekly even, just for fun. Since the new update, it's almost impossible to find anything. Suddenly overnight everything listed under "Houses" is land and commercial property. Plus you used to be able to filter out contingent gomes! Feels very spammy now. The new separation of "agent listing" and "other" doesn't really make sense. I really wish I had the old version back. I'll probably switch to a new app.
From a buyer perspective, the app works well. It's generally easy to find properties, save them, get alerts, etc. I love being able to see the number of views and saves Seller's perspective: app can be frustrating. I've claimed my home, currently listed with a realtor, so I see the views and saves stats. But the start and stop time of what is considered a "day" is a mystery. I would also like to see some filters for viewing stats, and also the ability to see more than 30 days of stats
buyability feature is bad. once you put your data in, you cannot change it for each property. I should be able to put the down-payment percentage and not the dollar amount so i can get accurate monthly payments for each property that i look at. the other option is to be able to delete the data and go back using zillow without it so I can see the estimated payment with 20% down. now I wish I never put in my info on buyability because I can't delete it.
I like Zillow for the ease of finding listings. I generally use the map based search and used to find glitched once in a while, but it seems to have been worked out. I think the comps page, especially for zestimates, needs corrections. When a home is listed in a community with higher priced homes, Zillow will take homes sold/listed from across the highway in a general neighborhood where listings just don't compare. Maybe in situations like this, Zillow can pull from one side of the highway.
App is too Quirky.. and the pre-qualification is very misleading. They make you think that you're going to go through all the steps & you're going to find out if & what you qualify for. But in the end all they want to do is hook you up to a Lender! I wasn't looking for that. I just wanted to see if I could qualify. Also I have to go back & re-enter all the infor in settings for what I'm looking for over & over again! It's ridiculous! Once that is set, that should be it. Very frustrating!
The "Contact for Price" feature they just rolled out a day or so ago makes the app literally unusable. I need to be able to see apartments that are actually in my price range and not waste so much time contacting each place individually. If they can't list the price of the product, they shouldn't be allowed to list at all. Can you imagine going to a grocery store and 70% of items on the shelf didn't have a price and just said "go ask the manager"? That would be ridiculous. Fix it.
So, this app would be 4 or 5 stars...if it wasn't so frustrating to use. Zillow does let me look at the whole state at once, only in my price range, and sorts the listings. But, when I try to look through the listings, if I for ANY reason scroll up even one listing, it takes me all the way to the top. Took me an hour and a half to look at and save listings from one page because I kept losing them. I would give up, but, it also has listings in more parts of my state than others. Please: fix!
The app worked great until a few updates ago. The houses that I know are contingent or pending now say "house for sale." That changes when you click on the listing and then contingent/pending comes up. It would be nice to go back to the old way so I don't have to waste my time clicking on every listing to see if it's still available. update 8/14/25: this seems to be happening again. very disappointing
