I hate to say this cause as a city girl, I've enjoyed using zip cars but honestly this app is so useless, so annoying the last couple months! First I couldn't open/close the car with my phone on two occasions and now,3rd time, it's not letting me book a car, keeps saying payment failed, makes no sense cause my payments work on every other app but zipcar. Customer service representatives keep saying there's no one present at the time to help with that. I mean!!! ok! Zipcar quickly going downhill.

Just not worth it. For short trips, an Uber/Lyft is cheaper, and picks you up at your house. For longer trips (2 hours) a normal rental is cheaper. And then you pay 25 dollars to get an account, and 9 dollars a month to get access to the premium club of people who pay too much for a rental car. I get the concept - it is cheaper than owning a second car, but I don't think there are many use cases where it is practical. And to pay money in order to pay for a service is just embarrassing.

It's exactly what I need living in the center of the city! Coming from Vancouver-CA, I was already used to the service in Evo so it's not a new product to me, and I like the wider selection of vehicles available and that certain fixed areas have an allotment of vehicles associated with it. The app and sign-up process was also seamless and may I say, better and faster than its Vancouver counterpart. Maybe there could be a wider variety of price points too? Overall very satisfied.

I use this app to drive with Uber. First off, $106.17 ($120 if you get the added insurance) a day to go and work is ridiculous, especially since every car has dents and scratches and the carpet has rips. Second, if their systems screws up and you can't extend your trip you will be charged a late few and a full day fee to return the vehicle within 2 hrs. Customer service was no help they blamed my bank. My bank says it's not seeing an attempt to charge my card.

Immediately after submitting rental request, they will charge your card on file, and if for any reason the app loads indefinitely (which is extremely likely), they will not register the transaction in the app but they keep your money and you dispute it to your bank and wait 30 days or 90 days like my case. Absolute nightmare and customer support is non-existent and in fact unwilling to help. This is just extremely unacceptable

They are now placing your funds on hold without booking the car. I was told that my bank is holding the funds, my bank denied this and told me that it's them who has taken payment and then releasing it back few days later. I've never had the issue before so this review is very hard but it's clear that the issue is them. Once this investigation is complete, I will be deactivating my account and deleting the app. I'd recommend booking DAYS in advance but still doesn't guarantee the car is booked.

Worst rental experience ever. The app and service are full of hidden fees, and the final cost ends up far higher than the advertised rate. There’s no refund for membership cancellations , even if you don’t use the service. Additional charges—like insurance, mileage, and late return penalties—quickly add up. Be careful before signing up.

Was only looking into my options, never submitted the Application. Still got hit with a $100 charge from ZipCar for the application fee. They refuse to help and still haven't returned my money. Going on three weeks now. If the poor customer service I've dealt with trying to get my money they stole is any indication of how they treat customers I'd stay as far away from ZipCar as possible. They have been a nightmare! EDIT: uhhh yeah. I've called support. Like a lot. 🤦🤦

I don't like the haptic scroll wheel to select trip times. it's difficult to select the exact time that you want, when the thing keeps moving after you take your finger off the screen! and if my saved credit card is default, why does the checkout go to Google Pay first, and then I have to change it? that's not default action! I also don't like the way the map moves around as I'm selecting cars, because then I have to find my starting point again! just put marker on the map on car's location

I love the service this provides. Cheaper than enterprise Uber and whatnot. But the app SUCKS. I spent 45 min trying to book a car. I got accused of wrecking a car and not submitting pre-inspection photos which I have proof I did. Having to delete and re-download the app so I can use the car is extremely annoying and time-consuming so it's taking away from my time with the car. Arriving at a location and not seeing the car where the app says bc it was parked somewhere else. fix the damn bugs!

Useless. ZC used to issue physical cards that unlocked and locked vehicles. Now, you have to use the app instead, which is hit or miss in terms of getting a connection. That means occasionally leaving the vehicle unlocked when running a quick errand, b/c the app fails to connect. It also means not leaving the vehicle unattended to, for example, dine at a restaurant. Unless your destination is a private, locked garage, ZC is no longer a viable option. Steer clear!!!

This is the worst experience I have ever had with an app and customer service. It has been weeks, and multiple attempts to reserve a car, being charged $25 initially just to sign up, then a subscription fee and $150+ MULTIPLE times without ever receiving access to a vehicle. The customer service is beyond terrible. Gaslighting, interrupting, yelling at me, denying basic facts of the experience, and finding every possible excuse to do absolutely nothing. Stay far away!

DON'T USE THIS APP. Its broken in so many ways. This app will "glitch" or bug out during payment resulting in you having to wait 2-3 days for a refund. Customer support is trained never take any fault. Use the website instead. Heads up for Uber drivers who might use this app, they do not service these cars. They block access from using it in the name of service but when they appear to be rentable again, no service was done at all. It's just a way for them to manage the drivers need to drive

I love the idea but not the price I pay or the flexibility I have. For the price I am paying, about $60 after taxes and insurance for 2 hours, they could have well marketed the business as "emergency only" car rental services. I would appreciate it if I could drop the car off at any reasonable distance from the pick up site. But I guess this is too much of a risk or a cost for them.

I stopped being a member 3ish years ago and decided to re-up today. I've had my account approved and I booked a car for a couple of days from now and installed the app - which doesn't seem to work at all. All I get is the Go to drive screen, and anything I click takes me back to that screen! I hope my old card will still work, because this app doesn't seem to! update 1: Force closed app and tried again a few minutes/hours later doesn't resolve the other. update 2: rebooting the phone worked.

I have been using zipcar for three years. The last year in Chicago has been bad. Rented a car in August and the air conditioner didn't work. Rented on a day of snow and rain mix and drivers side wiper didn't work properly. The cars are not cleaned consistently. The main issue is when you report these issues to customer support or through surveys sent to you nothing changes. A recent reservation went from a block away to a half mile. No explanation, no credits, no help.

Disappointing start with Zipcar. New users cannot access the service immediately after registering due to a screening process, but the timeframe is unclear. The app only shows a message that documents are under review, with approval emails sent later. When I called support, I was told it could take up to a week. For a service that advertises convenience and on-demand access, this delay is frustrating and poorly communicated.

This app has become so buggy I have to reinstall it for every reservation because it won't accept payment. It also doesn't tell you so you think you have car reserved but you don't. You find out when you go to pick it up. When you lock/unlock doors while out, it says you're 'out of range' when you're standing right next to it. UPDATE Even WORSE. have to go tru CS for reservation now. App is hot trash!! I absolutely dread trying to use it 😓 Garbage!

The app fails to allow bookings, it states I already have one, and I'm forced to call every time. The contact support via text does absolutely nothing when I click it. When I call, the "select X to XXX" does nothing when I select an option. The app won't connect to the car when I'm right next to it sometimes. The fuel card was missing from my last trip. Unbelievable that all these issues are acceptable for the PM team at Zipcar. Hey, your priorities need to be realigned.

If I could give this app (and service) 0 stars I would over and over again. Whether booking through the app, or the web browser, or even with a representative through chat support, there's no guarantee the reservation will be booked, though it's guaranteed the charge will be placed to your payment method. Support suggests that there's a "glitch" in the app, however my experience has been that the app (and web browser) have been "glitching" for more than a month now.
