Great game, but the gamepad function is literally useless. I hope the devs read this, because I would love to use my Xbox controller to play in the future.
Reviews for Backyard Football '99
← Back to Backyard Football '99much easier to control than I thought it would be but I would love to be able to use video game controller also wish there NFL teams but overall very good
It's the same game that was released back in 98 or 99 except that they changed the 31 NFL teams (Texans weren't a team yet) and Brett Farve got his name changed to "Chase Downfield" and lost his jersey #.
fun but needs more characters
I havent been able to save my season like i could in baseball
Great to have the game on mobile after all these years. I understand that we can't have the NFL logos, but it seems like a big oversight to not include the colors for those teams. In one of the trailers you can see the Broncos orange and blue on players in the game so that feels a little misleading. Hopefully they can patch those colors in for the future. Still a great game just disappointing. Also "Chase Downfield" is a great touch.
Its great to be able to go back and experience Backyard Football again. It seems like the game was just ripped directly off the original disk, and not in a good way. The controls are still clearly designed for someone using a computer mouse, and are not nearly as smooth as I would expect from an app made in 2025.
If you played this as a child, you're going to like it. The only issue I had was the conrtols as it is an emulation of the original game, so it uses the mouse feature. there are two players, but I haven't figured out how to do that. So I give it four stars as I think some people will struggle with controls.
I love the game. Brings me back to my childhood. I do wish they made the controls easier on the phone, as well as added more players. Biggest issue: crashes often, at least once a day.
I love the Backyard Sports franchise and I'm so glad it's making a comeback. App works as expected on my Samsung Galaxy S21+ without issue. No data collection, just good ol backyard football.
