So here's my take on Blasphemous. I've tested a bunch of 2D action games and this one's easily one of the best. The combat is super tight and responsive, with a ton of depth, but it never feels unfair. The pixel art is gorgeous too - these levels are impressively detailed. My only real gripe is that the difficulty can get a little out of hand at points, but that's kinda par for the course with these souls-like games. Overall though, this is a must-play for fans of the genre.

Pros

  • Tons of strategic depth without being overwhelming
  • Graphics look great and run smooth on older phones
  • Free to play, don't need to spend money to enjoy it
  • Satisfying, skill-based combat that's super responsive
  • Lots of secrets and hidden areas to discover

Cons

  • Upgrades and progression can get grindy at higher levels
  • Difficulty spikes are pretty brutal and may frustrate some players
  • Camera can be a little finicky in tight spaces
  • Ads can get annoying if you don't pay for the ad-free version

Description

Been playing Blasphemous for a couple months now. It’s basically a dark, gothic action platformer with some souls-like elements. Pretty solid game if you’re into brutal, challenging combat and exploration.

Here’s what you do: You play as this character called the Penitent One, and you’ve gotta fight your way through all kinds of messed up monsters and bosses across these pixel-perfect levels. There’s also a bunch of hidden secrets to discover, which is pretty cool. And the combat’s pretty deep – takes some getting used to but it feels super satisfying once you nail the timing.

Look, if you’re into hardcore, skill-based action games, you’ll probably dig this. It’s not perfect – the difficulty spikes can be frustrating at times – but overall it’s a really well-made indie title. Worth checking out if you’re looking for a challenge.
