Reviews for Castlevania: SotN

This is my all-time favorite game, and it's worth some points for nostalgia. However, the control scheme is just terrible. The gameplay is reliant on being able to press more than one button at a time, and the onscreen buttons just don't allow for that. Also several controls are missing as others have noted, like wolf swim and double jump/run for Richter. You're better off with an emulator and mapping the keys to a Bluetooth controller.

As far as ports go this is about as good as you can expect for a mobile game. The touch controls work as well as you can expect. It can make things mildly frustrating in the heat of combat. I do like the speed keys for spells once you unlock them. It does support a Bluetooth controller which is nice but features such as the speed button for spells can't be mapped to it. Only bug I noticed was in the beginning when the music glitched out when I paused. Beyond that worth the $2.99.

I find it hard to rate the controls higher than two and feel as if I should put it to one, but controller support helps that rating a bit but it's still a struggle. What hurts it the most is the controls. The fact you can't remap the controllers input, or be able to place the on-screen controls anywhere is a real struggle. It is easy to get used to them but the attack buttons are too small in my opinion and I feel like I miss them too much. Game is good overall but controls slack a bit.

Like many other reviewers, this is one of my favorite games of all time, and the mobile port has allowed me to dive back in and play again after many years. While it mostly runs smoothly, it's also rather buggy. For some reason, if I accidentally choose the "continue" feature on the main screen, it actually corrupts my saved game, causing me to lose quite a bit of progress. Also for whatever reason, diagonal arrow icons in the menus and library shop don't render properly.

I love this game, bring back childhood memories. It's also cool that you can choose the character. My only issue with the game, which is a big one are the controls... they could have easily added some way to adjust the placement or even added the option for a virtual analog stick. I'm constantly messing up with simple tasks in this game due to the lack of control.

I love the game itself. SoTN is my most favorite out of the franchise. I've beaten the game many times. I was stoked when I seen it in the Play Store. I'm going to keep it for nostalgic reasons but I'm not enjoying paying it on my phone. My only complaint is that the controls are awful. They're unresponsive at times, masking playing impossible at times. AWFUL CONTROLS on an otherwise legendary game

Not bad. It's not the PS1 version so the voice acting is different. The controls are okay but being able to resize and move them would be a very welcome (and in my opinion), much needed addition. NOTE: If the clock room won't open for you (you won't hear any ticking from the clock), save the game at a save point, exit and load FROM THE SAVE SLOT. I had this issue and it will impede game progression. This is a work-around but is a bug that needs to be fixed.

Great offline port of the PSP version of the game. Touch controls take very little time to get used to and react sharply for even the tough platforming levels. Spells and transformations map to convenient hotkeys. Continue options allows you to return from the last room you entered, no need to hike to a save room before you put the game down. If you have only played the PSX version before, there are many bosses, items, and dialogue clips that weren't included in that version of the game.

I bought this on vacation while I had some down time because I watched the Castlevania anime and got the itch to play this again. This is probably the worst way to play it tbh and it's mostly brought down by the controls. It could be my phone and the sensitivity, but it is very frustrating when you miss an attack or don't move when you want. That said, it is SOTN which is very good and if you can get past the controls or have a controller, it's a good experience.

I am loving everything, only issue is the controls. Why can't I customize them!? It's ESSENTIAL. Like, changing the placement and size of buttons, adding extra buttons, etc. I think blocking could be smoother, and there are some things you just *can't* do - its impossible to use the sheild while jumping because it's just such weird placement, I understand this is a game for the cell phone but come on man we should at the very least be able to adjust controls. That would make it so much smoother
