Reviews for Caves of Lore

← Back to Caves of Lore

If you like RPGs, I highly recommend this game. Rich in features and fun to play. No annoying ads or requests for more money. Worth ever red cents of the initial purchase price.

this game surprised me, I enjoyed it a lot. the quests, the pacing, dialogue, items and enchanting/upgrade systems. the atmosphere and music, all really impressive, like I said, especially since it was made by just one dev. I'd guess I played it for ~40 hours for maybe 85-90% completion

One of the best rpgs on mobile i have ever played. A huge amount of secrets to discover. I was expecting it to be a simple old school rpg, however I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of mechanics in the game. The only downside is performance, issues even with the graphics set low. A future update with further optimization to reduce performance issues will net this game 5 stars.

5 Stars 💯 Absolute must play! Engaging story, we'll written and beautiful art style by a solo developer. This game has a ton of replayability too, with all of its secrets, achievements and robust character classes/development. Discord is quite active and very helpful for new players. Easily the best mobile game I've played in a few years.

Fun, but Unstructured This game is great, but its a bit TOO classic. The lack of guides or prompts means you check notes and quest logs or books and things to figure out what to do next, but at times there IS no clear next, and I've hit a dead end. Wish there was more clear guidance or better guides online, but with neither I'm unable to play further.

I love Divinity Original Sin 2, Wasteland, Xcom and games like this. I went back and forth for a while about buying this game and finally decided to pull the trigger. I am so glad I did. I love the depth of play and controls are easy and smooth. I was even more happy when I connected my Kishi and it worked seamlessly, not just that it worked but that the developer added a true control scheme for it. Om thoroughly looking forward to playing this for quite some time.

So far I've put about 20 hours into this game and it's awesome. If you're someone who likes classic RPGs you definitely need to check this out, and if you haven't tried them before this might get you hooked on the genre! There's so much I want to say about the game but am limited to 500 characters, so to summarize: Fun tactical combat, super interesting and mysterious world to explore, and insanely cool solo dev you can contact who will answer questions or consider feedback personally.

Extremely solid CRPG with the core elements of the genre distilled down in a manner that fits the simple art style (but the mechanics aren't exactly simple, there's plenty of depth). Lots of things fo explore, enemies to fight, lore to learn, secrets to find (so many secrets). If I could wish for any improvements, I'd say more enemies, more magic-focused abilities, even more spells, just more content - I'd buy a DLC in a heartbeat (if DLC is even possible on android).

Fantastic cRPG with an isometric view, massive world, and turn-based combat with a grid. In some ways reminiscent of older games like Temple of Elemental Evil, but with charming pixel art and style to boot. The music is good, if not a bit repetitive, and the controls on mobile need work. I have encountered a few bugs that have required a restart, but nothing game-breaking and I feel like I might be halfway through based on skill progression. I'm happy to throw money at this developer. 5/5

A legitimate, elite tier, original CRPG from undoubtedly one of the most passionate, dedicated, responsive and talented solo devs I've ever come across. Get this game immediately if you have any interest at all in CRPGs, or just any interest in quality gaming that gives you dozens of hours of content for one upfront price. I've bought this on PC and mobile and plan to buy more just to support this dev. Truly great stuff.

The only review I've left in 13 years of using the play store. This game is a treasure, highest recommendation to fans of the genre and those looking to get into it. The passion that went into this game is evident in every gorgeously-lit pixel. As an added bonus, the dev responded to me within hours on Reddit about help & bug reports. Can't wait to see what you come up with next!

To the Dev: Great work, Thank you for pursuing the skills to make this game. I will be checking your releases to make sure I try whatever comes out that you are involved in. To anyone else: This is a great game, good turn based combat, good RPG elements, I like the size of the game, the art, and the price. It belongs in your Mobile game collection.

Caves of Lore is a full-scale RPG; a very large project for a single developer. It took me 36 hours to complete, so it's an incredible value for its price. It's also very replayable, as you build your own character and can customize your several allies. This game is loaded with secrets to discover. You'll end up looting a ton of magical items, and you can move enchantments from one item to another for a cost. The monster lore system is cool and unique. If you're considering it, I recommend it!

A fun game that's deeper than it first seems; a fully fleshed-out RPG in a nostalgic style that tells a coherent and traditional story. Interesting and replayable; I dislike somewhat the abrupt ending, but it doesn't feel short, simply leaving a very clean cut before the story's eventual continuation (provided that comes eventually). A staple addition to the short list of quality mobile RPGs.

This is the game I have been wanting to find for years. An easy to pick up, D&D inspired RPG with turn-based combat, made by someone who really gets it. Wonderfully crafted old school game without unnecessary things getting in the way. Great balance between simplicity to make it easy to start playing and complexity to keep it interesting and fun. Absolutely worth the price and more. Thank you for making this!

Like a JRPG & CRPG perfectly meshed together and somehow is STILL easily playable on gamepad. Pure Wizardry. Best game I've played since Fear & Hunger, and while some may not appreciate the comparison, that game was a masterwork & get the vibe this one's gonna be seen as such too given enough time. So if you're still reading this and aren't the devs, just buy the game & thank me later. d:

Been playing this for the last while & adore this interesting passion project we're lucky enough to get to enjoy. It's mechanics are some of the most unique I've seen in years. I've been playing on my Samsung 7 z Fold and love that it works in different aspect ratios. Very complex game you might assume isn't from the graphics, but so worth the effort to figure out how all the fun aspects work! Chat system & characters are well done. Best of all its not FTP ad filled/P2W, but a complete game!

This game is a true gem. Caves of lore is a turn based pixilated RPG with a good story. There are actually books in the game that you can read and discover secrets. The combat mechanics are clear enough and have increasing layers of complexity that you can develop. The main story takes 30-60 hrs to complete. For completionists there is an optional crafting system, and a rogue lite random loot system with several key unique plot items to guide the story. I hope the game gets a chapter 2.

I gotta say, this is impressive. The art, the music, the presentation, animations and special effects, even the UI feels slick. While im not far enough along to see just how deep the mechanics get, it definitely looks like it will satisfy me, someone who spent a lot of time just in Disgaea's item worlds. Love the Diablo-like equipment system too. My offbrand GameSir controller works great and controller layout works well once you get used to it.

Excellent 8 bit, top down, party/turn based, fantasy RPG! Very fair price for the game and quality. Feels like a cross between LoZ and FF games. The perfect nostalgic fix for your 8 bit pleasure. I beat the main quest in 3 days (couldn't put it down) but, I missed a lot so, that save continues and, I can also start a new game any time. Best game I've bought in years.
