I’ve been using Pocket Chess – Chess Puzzles for a couple months now. It’s basically a chess game where you solve all these tricky puzzles and problems to improve your game. Pretty solid app if you’re into chess or strategy stuff.

Here’s what you do: there are hundreds of chess puzzles at different difficulty levels, from basic checkmates in 2 moves to more advanced stuff. You gotta figure out the best moves to win. There’s also a built-in chess board if you wanna just play a quick game. And the patterns and tactics they teach are really helpful – took me a while to get the hang of some of them but now I’m spotting them more easily.

Look, if you’re a chess nerd like me, you’ll probably like this. It’s not perfect – the ads can get a bit annoying if you don’t pay – but overall it does the job of helping you level up your chess game. Worth checking out for sure.

The puzzle variety is great and it really does help you recognize patterns and think more strategically. The simple board design is nice too - keeps the focus on the key moves. My only gripe is that it can get a bit repetitive after a while, and the paywall for ad-free feels a tad aggressive. But if you're serious about improving your chess skills, this is a great free option.
