Reviews for ROME: Total War

← Back to ROME: Total War

I used to watch a buddy play this game when I was younger. I saw it available on the play store and decided to snag it. Woah is this game hard. I remember it being very detailed in how you manage everything. Loving the game but trying hard to learn how to not get attacked by everyone at once. Also, I may be missing something, but sometimes the buttons don't seem to work when you push them. No specific button or situation. Just sometimes I'll choose a task and it doesn't get carried out.

It's everything I remember and super fun to play! Only reason it isn't 5 stars is because the commands don't register right sometimes. The units you select wont always do what you want them to do and the game also has a habit of selecting random units/cities instead of the ones you are tapping on or just selects a random units when you are trying to do something else. Not a major gripe, but it's super annoying during battles and can cause you to lose a unit or the battle entirely.

It's the full Rome Total War experience. Just like on PC. but the controls are standing in the way of a great experience. Some simple tweaks would fix it. Tapping on a unit on the map should only select them, the next tap should be move/attack. NOT 'add another unit to selection'. Every battle I'll select a unit, order them to charge and aid a friendly unit. Then move to the next area of the battle only to realize what I've done is select two units and tell them to move across the map.

The Android version of Rome Total War does not disappoint. However, there are some caveats to the experience. Rome Total War was designed to be played with keyboard and mouse, and thus trying to actually play battles is incredibly difficult and frustrating due to limited input via touch controls. I was wishing I had a mouse at the very least. That being said, the macro-strategy is still very satisfying. On the campaign map you are again wishing you had a mouse, but the touch controls are serviceable. If you're unfamiliar with the game, this may be more trouble than its worth for you, but as a veteran of the game, I can put up with it. Get ready to lose hours trying to take over the world.

This game is almost exactly the same as the PC version I spent countless hours playing. The only notable exception is the touch controls, which can be frustrating during battles. I can get past this though, bc naturally a keyboard and mouse is going to be superior for this type of game. Overall I would recommend getting the game if you love total war games like I do. The ability to play RTW on my phone is worth a little frustration at times, in my opinion.

I don't even know where to begin. This game is ported PERFECTLY from PC. The controls are amazing, the touch screen enhances the fun. All of the battles are in depth, controlling every unit in the game. I like that I can still use the original amount of units, rather than the reduced amounts, just like on PC. I love the large, chaotic battles. Only thing I dislike is how often the AI will back stab you, even after doing huge favors for them and giving them lots of money. Other than that, amazing

I am a HUGE fan of the Total War series and I never had the opportunity to play Rome. I fell in love with Empire though, so I really enjoy this game. I do wish that putting troops into formation was a lot smoother, but what can I expect for a mobile game? Might i suggest controller compatibility? Also, sometimes the UI disappears during battle or during deployment. It isn't unplayable, but it sure is annoying. Otherwise, really great port!

Total War is one of my all time fav PC games. It has been ported to mobile very well. Battle controls are too difficult in small screen though. But worse than that and infuriating is that the save doesn't always save. At first I thought it was me..maybe clicking x instead of check. But I have been VERY care to save early save often. The game is inconsistent with saving games. I've literally lost hours of progress.

Initially rated 1 Star because after initial time launching it, the game continually crashed. Customer support commented a solution for me in my first review and it seems to be working. apparently, you shouldn't sync your Google account for saving gameplay or you could encounter issues. I didn't quite understand the instructions but I went into settings and cleared my Rome: Total War cache. Gameplay is fun, but the controls does take a bit to get used to. I am enjoying it so far.

this is pretty amazing how well this works on my Note9 and I'm a busy guy so it's great how at the end of my break time at work I could just close the game and when I open it the game picks up right where I left off. genius. My only issue with the game is how hard the battle controls are. but that just comes from this type of game being played on a touch screen with no keyboard and mouse. over all best mobile game ever so far now if they were to make empire total war for mobile it's a wrap.

I can't even explain how many hours I put into this game as a teen on PC. This was always one of my absolute favorite games and here it is 20 years later, and it's still one of my absolute favorite games, only now on mobile. Plus, I love it even more now since all the factions(besides SPQR) are now available to play. That was always the only real big flaw I could have pointed out as an issue, but now I got nothing to complaine about.

It's actually pretty good strategy game for 10 bucks. I've played all PC versions and love them. But this is great on my phone so far. Runs smooth. Very similar to PC version. Some differences but mainly the same. Yall did a good job. All total wars are totally awesome. Any of them. Highly recommended if you enjoy real strategic and in depth Gamez. 👌

Everything works fine, any other review will tell you that. But the single biggest issue I have is that the game needs to validate a license. This requires an internet connection after some time which seems to be a couple days. I would not have purchased the game had that been clearly stated. Instead this is listed as an offline game and it works but only for a couple days or so until it needs a wifi connection. Which requires the game to have been opened while connected. Not cool devs.

This is one of the best ports I've ever seen! Well done! No BS, just Total War: Rome; on your phone. The interface could do with some refining(because it's almost exactly like the PC version, and you can't really hover the mouse to get info, and things like that, etc[just minor tweaks or maybe just more info at the start])but, I really have no complaints. This is an amazing port! You've done this franchise a service with this one!

Only logged a couple of hours so far, but what i have played has been extremely close to the PC version. it is refreshing to have such a solid game on Android that isn't milking us for cash with IAPs. Instead a fair up-front price for a full game experience is what I'll spend my money on. Thank you Feral for a great port and hopefully you continue to deliver other titles in the future.

After trying to unsuccessfully install a 10 yr old copy onto my PC, I installed this version onto my Pixel 7 Pro. Well done! Given the processing speed of the Pixel, the load times are considerably less than the PC. Gameplay is identical. Controls are fairly intuitive after only a few gaming sessions. Live battles on a 7.4" screen aren't the easiest, but it's not the game's fault. I may buy a tablet just for this game.

I didn't grow up playing this game on PC or its franchise and I've never been to happy with typical war/strategy game on mobile devices. It seems like they mostly focus on base building and not really into war and strategy tactics. This game fixes that and has so many ins and outs that I learn something each time playing. minutes turn to hours, hours to days and now I've been playing the same campaign for MONTHS. Unbeatable experience. Controls are a tad wack but no other complaints. NEED MORE!

While I had been aware of the Total war games for sometime, this is my first actual experience with it and I highly recommend it for anyone who enjoys strategy games. It runs smoothly on my Pixel 2, the graphics are good, considering when it was released, and the gameplay itself is in depth and well done. The controls are a little difficult at times, particularly when trying to rotate your army on the battle screen, but for the most part it works well enough as a phone port. Worth the $10 price.

It's amazing to play this classic game on android, but the controls for battles are lacking. You don't have the level of control of the PC version, and it's more cumbersome to do anything but basic commands. A big battle would get out of hand. I recommend setting combat difficulty to easy and autoresolving most battles, and mainly enjoy the campaign management gameplay. I havent tried using a bluetooth keyboard and mouse, but if that would give you PC controls, that would be perfect.

This new update is great! The game is way more intuitive and far more enjoyable now. 12/10, I've already recommended it to people lol. If you guys can pull it off, Rome 2 ported like this would be unfathomably based... I hate Gauls... Edit: I noticed maybe a memory issue where after being open a while, the speech cuts out, and units move immediately instead of traveling to the target. I'm sure it's a quick fix, but I have to keep restarting once in a while. Not game breaking, just inconvenient
