So here's my honest take on Teach Your Monster to Read. I've tested a bunch of kids reading apps and this one's up there with the best. The gameplay loop is super addictive and it does a great job of teaching phonics and reading skills in a way that's actually fun for little ones. Compared to some other similar apps, the graphics and animations are way better and it runs smoothly even on older devices. The best part is it's free to play, so you don't have to spend any money to let your kids enjoy it. The only real downsides are the ads can get old after a while and the progression does start to feel a little grindy at higher levels. But overall, I'd definitely recommend Teach Your Monster to Read.

Description

I’ve been using Teach Your Monster to Read for a couple months now. It’s basically a fun game that helps kids learn to read through a bunch of different mini-games and activities. Pretty solid app if you’re into educational games for little ones.

Here’s what you do: you create your own unique monster character and then take them on a magical reading adventure. There’s different games and levels to progress through, like learning letters and sounds, then building up to reading full words and sentences. It’s got a ton of colorful characters and environments to explore too.

Look, if you’ve got young kids who are just starting to learn how to read, you’ll probably get a lot of use out of this. It’s not perfect – the ads can get a little annoying if you don’t pay – but overall it does a pretty good job of making reading practice feel like a fun game.

Reinforces bad habits. Our 6 year old is trilingual but struggles mightily with reading English. We were hoping this app would help. But there's no negative consequences for getting wrong...

I like it! A few of the mini games have finicky controls and I've seen them glitch out (not making appropriate sounds). A good example is the the spaceship lifting...

It's a wonderful phonics learning game. Our 4 year old started on it with virtually no knowledge of letters and has learned a fair bit from it (now halfway through...
