The young kid in me simply can't believe how far we've come in terms of mobile graphics! Feral Interactive has done an absolutely amazing job bringing this behemoth of a PC game to mobile! The only reason why I give it 4/5 stars is for its lack of graphics settings options. I have a top of the line Samsung Galaxy Ultra and would've loved to see SSAO and 60fps options in the graphical settings. Other than that, this game is a must buy for all fans of the Total War series!
Reviews for Total War: EMPIRE
← Back to Total War: EMPIREFirst off, it's amazing that they were able to port this to mobile. I can't believe that I can play this game on my phone! There are many bugs that make it hard to play though. In every campaign I've played I have hit some point where if I make one move (declare war/capture a city) the game will crash. I've gotten around this by ignoring the bugged city but for an 18 dollar mobile game I would expect better.
So far is absolutely amazing, it's honestly better than the PC version in a lot of ways. The only issue I'm having currently and the reason I'm only giving 4 stars is because around turn 105 it starts freezing up. Edit: i haven't had the issue since, I think my phone just got too hot lol. It's perfect, it's better than the original and I really hope to see shogun 2 total war :)
I have 1k hours in desktop so coming to this was frustrating. The campaign mechanics run smoothly and are a 4/5 but the battles are just terrible. 1/5 There is no way to truly zoom out when in battle, leaving you with vision of 7 of the 30 units on the field. As I was posting this review, the game crashed and lost the battles I just won. Last update was December 5th 2024 so there needs to be more support for the pricetag...
Made it to turn 95 with some occasional crashes that weren't a huge deal, but now it's stuck and won't stop crashing. I tried killing all other apps, turning off the CPU turns, and updating/restarting my phone, nothing worked. This is really frustrating, and if a patch doesn't come out soon, I'll be seeking a refund. For the price of this game, I expect a much more seamless experience. Update: after contacting support, they offered me a resolution that works. Still some glitches, but it works.
Admittedly I've put too many hours into this game, but that's because it's good, Fun port of an old classic. That said there are still a lot of bugs, s21+ struggles to make it through end turn cycle after turn 70-80, random crashes, thing like that. Also, for some reason, you can only exit the game sometimes less than a minute before it completely resets. The app refreshes and the game doesn't consider it a crash or bug. Not a great feature and it needs improvement.
Great and fun port the only bug I've had was there was a game it wouldn't let me pull up the units stats when holding down on the icon so I kinda had to guess what was better just going off price. Also like other people have said it would be nice to be able to play as every faction like in Rome and BI. There's pc mods for this so doing it on mobile should be an option too.
As someone with a ton of hours in the desktop game, this is great, gonna eat all my time, but great. I really wish there was a way to adjust the notifications in game, I don't get notifications for buildings or recruitment that I can find, which every other total war game has, and it's a pain clicking through settlements trying to find building. Maybe I just can't don't l find it, but help would be appreciated
Great game, well optimized for mobile, flawlessly on a 8 gen 3, doesn't even make the phone hot. Also works great in desktop mode (DeX) hooked to an external monitor with a keyboard and mouse, the controls are basically the same as the desktop version of the game, which is great! (I wish you could make the UI elements and mouse cursor smaller in desktop). Only thing I wish is that it didn't automatically restart when I fold my phone and have the app open on my Fold 6.
The combat will definitely take time to get used to. I'm not a big fan on the lack of customization when it comes to making a custom battle, so that take 1 star away, second issue is the music it keep chattering in and out like static almost, 3rd, the unit Ai is not very smart and controls are not very great. However you get 4 stars for making this game on mobile, for the action and entertainment it brings, the detail it has, the work and effort put into it, and hopes to see some more games.
Was okay till I started the inside game download, then started to heat my phone up then I play a battle to test the game out before I started campaign, damn good thing I did because it lagged some but not much but still enough to annoy you and camera is little too high that I can't even see units unless I get so close to them. also no custom battles which that's a big issue for the android version of this game. yeah I made huge mistake buying this game for like $18.00 but it's meant for PC🤷
I would love the game if it didn't crash every time I get into a naval or land battles, or even if I just end turn. Yeah, I play on an old phone, but on your other games, I was able to turn down certain settings to make the game more playable. It sucks to know i have to get a new phone to play a game i was able to pay for and download. Other than that, im sure it's a great game. Just wish I could play it.
It showed that I could download it, so I did. It ended up using up all my space, and it wasted my money. I get that this is more of the phone's fault than Feral's but at least grey out the install button so I know I can't get it. Edit: I can now play the game, but it crashes either every other turn, or before land battles. Naval Battles for some reason work fine (albeit with horrible lag). If you guys could properly port the game to this device and/or others, that'd be great. overall, great.
ETW Mobile Review. Excellent mobile version of a very good game. Only limiting factor I've found is (due to reduced size of phone, pad, et .) the limitations in controls on the battle screen make quick and detailed management difficult. The strategic map is a duplicate of the full-size PC game. And the BEST feature is how much better this mobile version runs so much more stable than the PC version. Love it!!!!
This is the most jaw dropping update I have EVER seen for a mobile game. They took a 15 year old widely panned TW and added over *40* new factions! ENTIRELY new national identity mechanics, and on top of that all those minor factions were given unique units and traits... and it's not even 7 dollars. On top of being able to play in the 1770's, or forming nations like the US as the colonies. Keep in mind NONE OF THIS EXISTS IN THE PC VERSION. This is Warhammer sized DLC put inside a mobile port.
I love that I can play these on my phone. I started with Rome when I didn't fully understand Total War, played the hell out of Medieval, and enjoying my time with Empire. It did crash on me once so far, but unless it happens repeatedly, I'm not too worried. I can't wait until Rome 2 comes out, that was my favorite on pc, and my computer is currently out of commission lol. anyways, great job, I'm having a blast!
Great addition to the total war series by feral! They should have hired you guys to make the Age of Empires mobile that is straight garbage. Imagine if that happened. Anyways, graphics superb , gameplay super fun. Lotta nostalgia with improvements, as others have said. No crashes yet. S23 ultra 8gb. just got new dlc. cant wait to try it! looks like I can play more all the small factions now! thank you!
Overall, good. However, I have a few bug reports for Feral to look into. •Stability - I've had a few random crashes here and there. •Keybinds - Please make the keybinds customizable. The keybind for rotating a unit right and sending a unit forward are the same, causing the game to freak out (simultaneous input) if you attempt either. •Stone fences - I can't get my units to crouch behind stone fences. The crouch symbol appears, but when I right-click, nothing happens.
Update didn't help my problems. No more money from me. Great game. Unfortunately it crashes on my phone alot. Have the specs to play it and it runs smooth but for some reason at random times it just crashes. Tried all the reinstall and wipe data completely. Would be a five star review. If I could play it more than five to fifteen minutes without a crash.
Honestly, for a mobile port, I actually love this. Controls might be a bit off from time to time but gameplay wise it really is interesting and entertaining. From the PC version I love this one a bit more just cause it has options that the PC version doesn't have. With the new mechanics that were recently added, it adds a lot that makes this game feel completely different which is an awesome thing that this studio has done for it. recommend it for those experienced with these types of games.
