Reviews for Total War: MEDIEVAL II

← Back to Total War: MEDIEVAL II

This is a brilliant port of a game I have probably bought 5 times because I love it so much and have a tendency to lose things. I owned the original 4 CD set... and now I feel old. The only draw back is the UI interactions can be a bit tedious, but the pros vastly outwiegh the cons. I can't wait for a redo of Empire or even better Shogun 2! I'd totally buy those again.

Super buggy and often broken. Very poor port (rushed). In 40 years being a gamer (since 2600 in 1982) the pc version of Medieval II TW is my favorite game ever, overall. In other words, I know this game like the back of my hand. Too many bugs exist to recommend this port. After 45 minutes fighting a battle, the game will freeze up or crash. Very disappointing !

Im struggling with that 2 finger drag on my device. Once, I got a blue box, with arrows in each corner, to appear around a unit. That made it very easy to drag/position that unit while the battle was paused. I forgot what I did to activate that box.Now I'm back to the dreaded 2 finger drag that's never where I want it to be. And the battle PAUSE pop-up is huge! It looks great but it's blocking a large portion of the battfield on small screens.Everything else is amazing.

Same classic I remember and love! Although you might have to take some battles slower due to controls being touchscreen and requiring a little more attention, everything is just how I remember playing on PC. Playing around with every tab and action is best. Smaller issues can be fixed easily (manually choosing most recent save/using pause to get UI back/going into a city to select units). Absolutely recommend if you can spare 3gb of space, the money, and the time to get used to the controls!

Updated; ok so there is a pretty steep learning curve and the buttons are very small. That being said, this is by far the best strategy game of all time. Phone or otherwise. The expansion pack is totally worth it. Ive been playing this phone version since it came out and its still a game i play almost daily. For a single player offline game thats huge to still be interesting after that much time. New content would be cool though.

Great game. Works exactly like on PC except for unjt controls which is wonky. My only complaint is I constantly have to turn off my auto tax management in ever settlement (yes I turned off the setting in the settings menu but it still turns on) and the larger your kingdom gets the more annoying and time consuming it is. Whenever I start the game I have to take almost 5 whole minutes just to go to all my settlements to turn them all back to manual, and then adjust the taxes to what they were at.

Some bugs here and there. The battle map is awful to use and order troops in a line. It seems like the baility to make a decent troop line is not possible yet. The game doesn't listen to where I put my fingers. The worst part is the game crashing upon loaded a save. I've had to restart twice because all the saved data kept crashing the game. I'll try one more game and clear data with no cloud saves.

A decent port from PC. I've avoided battles entirely as I'm under the assumption it'll be terrible for touchscreen. However, the campaign is easy to manage. Because of the lack of controls, the touch and hold has multiple actions binded to it so be patient when combining units and panning around with a unit selected. Performance-wise, it runs surprisingly well. Didn't expect this game to run on mobile with how clunky it is on the PC. It's good to replay my favorite TW game so 4/5.

After a few weeks of playing I wanted to revisit this review, if you enjoy rts games from back in the day this is a good buy, that said keep at least 3 saves at different points, beginning of turn, end, and new turn. Controls can be frustrating in battle and out. Three stars because the campaign corruption issue is game killing but if fixed this could be a blast from the past.

won 2 different long campaigns and I'm about to start another game. The game did Force crash on me twice so make sure you save often. Don't trust the auto saves they're unreliable. Make your own saved games in the pause menu. The diplomacy between nations is a little out of whack as well. Overall though game is pretty solid. Also developer please make an option to remove the turn limit so we can just have fun.

Incredible! I want to Put to rest any negative reviews right here right now. This until less than a few years ago was thought to not be possible. Medieval II on mobile? But they did it. 1. If your using a cheap Phone and I mean like cheap. Then yeah it might not run well. That's common sense. 2. I play on a Google pixel and it's smooth as ever. 3. Getting used to The UI and Tactical Options and Troop movement takes a little time. Duh right? Also they added kingdoms expansion! Amazing

One of my absolute favorite PC games, but now it's portable! The graphics and music are just as I remembered them. The controls can be a bit finicky at times, meaning, it doesn't always register my taps the first time. But I'd rather it do that than waste a turn sending an army or unit off to where I didn't intend. Other than that, it's a faithful port of one of the best turn-based strategy games ever.

I absolutely love the TW franchise, and I was ecstatic to see this come out. That said, the controls for mobile are absolutely horrific. On the campaign map, you'll always be tapping the wrong things and accidentally closing windows. In battles, you'll always be moving the wrong units to the wrong places, or doing something unintentionally when just trying to pan the camera. On the same note, the camera is so hard to use effectively, and you can't actually enjoy the game by watching your units

Awesome! Just like the PC game! A bit more challenging to click and move troops, but that's ok. I'd like if they added a highlight all friend and enemy troops button like the PC game. Also on lists I used to like to sort by population. Also, the title of buildings is off on the top of the screen. But those are small concessions for the same great game!

difficulty is higher bcuz its harder to control. There are some fearures on the pc that didnt make it over. But i gave it another shot once you get used to it, its great. It does randomly crash. It freezes and you have to close and reopen. I then had to replay a battle i won. And get back where i was in a battle and it froze again mid battle. That happened 3 times in arow. Other times the screen blacks out ands same thing. Restart. But even with the bugs, its well done. 10/10.

I had no idea this port was in development. This is literally one of my favorite games of all time. I had religiously checked for this game after the release of the rome series and heard that the Warhammer series might be coming to mobile and was elated to find this game was coming in less than a week. I've never spent $15 on a mobile app.. until now. It handles a little different than i remember and is more challenging than Rome and selecting and moving units is a little sloppy, but i love it!

A very well done PC to mobile port. It's exactly the game I remember. The controls are definitely more difficult and there are a few things that may not have needed a "hotkey". For example to set your city's rally point you tap it and then hold on the map. To select an army you hold your finger on it. So trying to go from city to army in the field selection could be annoying but once you learn what is what it works well :).

Love this game, the controls are a little hard to do on a cellphone, but you can make it work. Sometimes it'll shut off and have errors, but for the most part it works well. The controls do need an update though, as the army will sometimes move into a position and you can make them turn the right way. Also sometimes the controls will disappear, but I just do the three finger swipe to bring them back up.

Fantastic port, and the patches have only made it better. Top 10 RTS ever. UI is still a bit clunky (like if you want to go from normal to low taxes you have to cycle all the way through from unlike Rome 1 mobile), but it's so much fun. One request is for the DLC campaigns, please at some point add the option to integrate at least some of those units into the main campaign factions for those who have Kingdoms. I really wanna unleash Byzantine flamethrowers on the way to retaking Rome.

Great port. As others stated, battles are difficult at first, but you get used to it. It's not like on a computer, but it works well. I noticed a lot of little things also seem much improved from the PC version, such as: unit information screens, campaign map information screens, generals' traits, and even the AI seems better. I'm too old to have the time to play on a computer these days, but this is great for long flights and commutes. Thanks to the devs for improving and keeping this gem alive
