How This Catalogue Is Built
Grand Screen is a catalogue of Android apps and games. This page explains exactly where the information on our pages comes from, what is produced automatically, and what we do not do. We would rather be plainly useful than sound impressive.
Where the data comes from
Every app and game page is built from the public Google Play listing for that title, retrieved through the Google Play Data API. That includes the title, developer, category, description, screenshots, version, download size, minimum Android version, content rating, permissions, download count, star rating and review count.
All of that data is Google Play’s, not ours. Where we show a star rating or a review count, it is the figure Google Play reported at the time we last retrieved it, and we label it as such.
What is generated automatically
We are a small team and the catalogue holds more than 18,000 titles. The summaries, the pros and cons lists and the FAQ blocks on app pages are produced with the help of large language models, working from the Play listing data described above. They are a convenience layer over public information, not independent findings.
We are telling you this directly because you should weigh those sections accordingly.
The user reviews on our pages
The reviews shown in the “Reviews” section of an app page are real reviews left by real people on Google Play. We reproduce them with the reviewer’s display name, rating and date as published there. They are not written by us, not solicited by us, and not verified by us beyond what Google Play already does.
Ratings on this site
There are two different numbers, and they are not the same thing:
- Google Play rating — the aggregate star rating from Google Play, shown on most pages. This is by far the more meaningful of the two, because it rests on thousands or millions of ratings.
- Grand Screen visitor rating — ratings left by visitors to this site. This is a small dataset: roughly 1,200 ratings across about 200 titles at the time of writing. Where a page shows one, treat it as a handful of opinions, not a verdict.
We do not publish an “expert score”. We are not in a position to earn one.
What we do not do
We want to be unambiguous about this, because plenty of sites in this category are not:
- We do not install and personally test every app in the catalogue. At this scale, nobody does.
- We do not run a device laboratory, and we do not benchmark battery or memory use.
- We do not accept payment from developers for inclusion, placement or favourable coverage.
- We do not write user reviews, and we do not alter the ones we reproduce.
How current the data is
App data is refreshed in batches rather than continuously. Some pages carry figures that are several months old — version numbers, file sizes and rating counts drift, and a stale page will say so through its “last updated” date. If a page looks out of date, it probably is; the Google Play listing is always the authoritative source.
Corrections
If something on a page is wrong — a mis-stated fact, an outdated figure, a listing that should not be here at all — tell us and we will fix or remove it. Developers who want their own listing corrected or withdrawn can reach us the same way.
