Matching the card to the venue

  • Under $20. eBay with Standard Envelope postage, or a bulk lot. Individually listing anything cheaper than this loses money on time alone.
  • $20–$500. eBay for reach, Whatnot if you can sell live, Mercari for the lowest all-in rate. This is the band where the choice is genuinely open.
  • $500–$2,500. eBay's high-value fee discount starts at $1,000 and changes the arithmetic. Auction houses become viable but rarely better at the bottom of this range.
  • Above $2,500. Specialist auction houses reach bidders who never see eBay, and commissions are negotiable on cards they want.

The fee is not the whole cost

A venue with a lower rate and a smaller audience can net less, because the realised price is lower. eBay's 13.25% is the highest headline rate here and it still wins constantly on mid-range cards, simply because more people are looking. Compare expected net, not the percentage.
