Description
I’ve been using bitchat for a couple months now. It’s basically a decentralized messaging app that works over Bluetooth without needing any internet connection. Pretty cool if you’re into secure messaging and privacy.
Here’s what you do: you can chat with friends, send files, even start group chats – all without relying on servers or phone numbers. There’s also a mesh network feature that lets you communicate even when you’re out of Bluetooth range. Took me a while to figure that one out but it’s super useful.
Look, if you value privacy and want a messaging app that doesn’t require a data connection, you’ll probably like bitchat. It’s not perfect – the UI can be a bit confusing at first – but overall it does the job. Worth checking out for sure.
Editor Opinion
So here's my honest take on bitchat. I've tested a bunch of secure messaging apps and this one's pretty solid. The decentralized design is a big plus - you don't have to worry about a central authority snooping on your chats. And the mesh networking is genius, it really extends the range. But I do find the interface a little clunky at times. And the initial setup was kind of a pain. Overall though, it's a great option if you value privacy and want a messaging app that works anywhere.

great private chatting app. uses Bluetooth to connect to nearby users.
please enable edgetoedge and make the app as good looking as the iOS version. this is a 2nd class experience when I have both ios and android version open side...
As soon as the install process finished, my Pixel 6 Pro on Android 16 rebooted by itself. Never has something like that happened before. Any reason why?
