I like this app and would probably give it 5 stars, but it wants to open every time I plug in my usb-c headset, and there's only "always open app" and "cancel," no option to never open automatically. And unfortunately, I can't find any option in the app or my Android settings that will turn that off. I'll of course change my rating if there's a way to do it that I'm missing!
Reviews for Field Recorder
← Back to Field RecorderThis is the best recording app for users who want more control. Using is since long time.
Excellent app! When coupled with my dynamic mic. Seriously, you will not find an app that records better audio than this on your phone or tablet. Please consider adding 192kbps CBR controls. And a volume set for db. Constant bit rate controls would be grand!
What a good app for field recordings!!! But i found a small flaw. After i used the app and closed it, my phone audio stop working, for example when i watch a video on YouTube. The audio won't come out anymore and i need to restart my phone to be able to heard any sound. Is there any way to fix it?
I was hoping for a simple recorder with a recording level control for loud environments. While there are some settings that may activate limiting, there doesn't seem to be a place to adjust it. There is no actual manual, just a lot of useless, cumbersome stuff in the settings. Should have spent the $6 somewhere else.
this is an incredible welldone app that gives me a full field recorder (used with a headset-splitter-adapter) in my phone. on my old galaxy s3 it was a bit laggy (in terms of loading and maybe half a second before recording runs on) but with no quality loss or whatever. with a new, a year old cheap redmi, those tiny lag is gone completly. it is really easy to use and gives you a broad variety of functions like waveform, limiter, AUDIO MONITORING (so you can hear what your mic hear through headphones, which is esentially!) - functions you find on higher class field recorder, which physicly begin at 150 euro if you want to get this seriousness. a charme for a young poor filmer. the only question i have, due to new headphones: it is possible to use bluetooth headphones with it?
Have spent the last couple of hours trying out tons of audio recorders, they're all too basic, and nearly all of them mono only. This is the only one that lets you record raw audio from all the available microphones on your device, in stereo, and the only one that lets you turn off the default noise gate and echo suppression that renders all the other apps useless for field recording. There are tons of options, limiter, soft clip, EQ. Brilliant. Slightly ugly UI but who cares. ❤️
The app is really good and practical. I have two big problems though: 1. I cannot record at 24 bits, even though my setup can record at 24 bits: the same hardware configuration with another app is able to record at 24 bits. Which setting do you need to record at 24 bits? 2. After your answer I realized that the Spectrum view is available only during recording, while I was expecting to be available during playback too... so I guess it is not a problem. The issue 1. still a big problem for me, as it was one of the main reason to buy this app.
This is what happens when you understand precisely what an end-user needs - and when you are on a platform that let's you 'under the bonnet'. By a distance the best audio recorder for Android. Will be rolling this out to my radio field reporters. (It is so good it makes other apps work properly... Put it in Pause and hey presto, your expensive external mic becomes available to Chrome!)
I needed a reliable alternative to Neutron Audio Recorder. This works fantastic on numerous devices! Would Love to see this app upgraded to record at 32bit. This app has worked consistently for several months now. NOTE: When using a 32bit HiFi USB-C DAC ( Kiwi Ears Allegro ) Set IN:MIC C , this is the correct configuration to record audio and monitor ( KZ ZAX IEM no mic / moto g stylus 2024 built in mic )
This is the most powerful and clear sounding recording app I have worked with. Even at the lowest setting, it still sounds great. I highly recommend it for note takers, speech writers, audio enthusiasts, etc. It's an awesome tool, highly versatile. Whether it's speeches, interviews, nature sounds, EVPs, or whatever, it is potent. You guys did a great job on this outstanding app!
Superb - exceeds expectations. Full set of capabilities, easy to use, interfaces with your phone mic or external hardware, fully configurable. Sans your field mixing rig, or without one, you could conceivably use this app to cover your field mixing needs. I recommend experimenting to determine the combination of gear that works for you. Are there caveats, details, gotchas? Of course - but that's not the app, that's show business, baby.
Perfect! It's like a real field recorder on your phone! This is a powerful, professional quality tool. It's not a 'consumer grade' junk app like a lot of others. This has soft clipping, limiting, EQ, file management, complex controls over the UI so it can work for you however you need. It exceeded my best possible expectations. Thank, you, Dev. This was exactly what I was hoping for!
Second review: I love app's features, but it often fails to load when I need it in the field!!! The only app the I've ever had fail after purchase saying I need to be online or email to get it to open. It's a FIELD recorder (i.e., a place without connectivity)! I posted this fact in previous review a year ago. They blamed google play. I went back to the field and it failed again, so it seems to be a problem with the app. You won't be able to trust this in the field unless you are always online.
Although the format of the app is intimidating for someone with no audio experience, IT'S THE BEST MOBILE RECORDER I'VE EVER USED! Yes! All caps cause I'm screaming!😆 I even asked and they agreed. I also purchased the MP3 convert after recording a band rehearsal using the app and playback was worth listening to later and learning from it! 1st recording app I've purchased and I'm quite please. Tip To Get The Most Use: Pay the $1.99 for for wav to mp3 converter. You can thank me later.🤓
If Someone knows how to place markers while listening to a recording much would be appreciated....... this recorder is amazing The sound it produces is unbelievable, it's definitely worth getting. been using it for 8 years recording the Christmas service and my cousin's band when they put out a concert... Lately I just want to take a few pieces out of an hour and a half recording and I can't find how to use this feature if available
This is excellent. I use it primarily to record jam sessions and band practices. Sound is very good and recording options are plentiful. One suggestion, please add an option to "Cast" playback to Chromecast speakers or the Chromecast dongle. Currently, without plugging a cable into the phone that is used for recording or using Bluetooth, there is no way to hear the recording in high quality.
The user interface is a lot different from what people are used to. But, it has a lot of settings that people who are more picky about their audio maybe interested in. And, once you get used to the weird UI, it actually is pretty quick and easy to use. Sometimes, people need to think outside of the box to make things that actually work the way brains work, instead of the ways that brains have been forced to work in the past and have simply become accustomed to.
So far, I've been blown away. I use recorders frequently for recording instructions, meetings, new song ideas, etc, and usually phone recordings are absolutely atrocious. This app allowed me to record stereo mics without the shoddy noise reduction or automatic level adjustment that my phone's manufacturer has installed. It's also got lots of settings that I'll probably never use, but hey, they're there if you need them. Some users complained about unintuitive UI. I didn't have an issue with it.
I don't usually get a paid app like this but decide to take a chance because of the listed features. There are so many options to fine tune the app and the recordings. My Motorola One Ace 5G can record in stereo using the internal microphones. True strereo recording holding the phone sideways! Top of the phone records on left and bottom records on the right. No issues so far. * 2 years later update : Still using this app on the same phone. Still works great with zero issues.
