Description
Been using Threema. The Secure Messenger for a couple months now. It’s basically a private messaging app that keeps your data safe from hackers, companies, and governments. Pretty solid if you’re into secure communication.
There’s all the usual messaging features – you can send texts, make voice and video calls, and even do group chats. And it’s got this desktop app and web version too, so you can use it on your computer. The big thing is the privacy and anonymity – Threema doesn’t store your contacts or messages on their servers, it’s all encrypted on your device.
Look, if you care about privacy and security, you’ll probably like this. It’s not perfect – the interface is a little clunky at times – but overall it does the job of keeping your stuff safe. Worth checking out if that’s a priority for you.
Editor Opinion
So here's my honest take on Threema. The Secure Messenger. I've tested a bunch of privacy-focused messaging apps and this one's definitely one of the better ones. The end-to-end encryption is legit and I like that it's open source so you can see the code. In my experience, it's been reliable and the call quality is good. The downside is it's not as user-friendly as something like Signal or WhatsApp - the UI could be more intuitive. But if maximum privacy is your top priority, I'd say Threema is worth the trade-off.
Pros & Cons
Pros
- Totally secure and private - your data never leaves your device
- Good range of features like voice/video calls and group chats
- Works on desktop too with the web and computer apps
- Open source so you can see the code for yourself
Cons
- Interface is a bit clunky and not as polished as other messengers
- Doesn't have all the bells and whistles of mainstream apps
- Takes some getting used to compared to more popular options

The app looks solid, but we're missing a couple of key functions, like reacting to messages in group chats and the ability to have a link/qr/whatever to invite other people...
its always delayed on sending messages, and it always happen when its came to an urgency!
Waste Of Money. Only two of my contacts use Threema, so pretty pointless having it. Plus it was impossible to verify my phone number. Never received a code by text...
