Good app, but I never, ever subscribe to apps where the premium version fee is automatically set to 'recurring' by default. It's so unecessary and too often, the promises that 'you are in control' and 'you can easily cancel anytime' is not met by reality. Just do the right thing; default premium accounts to 'not recurring' and I'd happily pay to upgrade.
Reviews for Wikiloc - Trails of the World
← Back to Wikiloc - Trails of the Worldexcellent app. but Persian/Farsi search has problem. please check this language.
what problem does this app solve? it seems to be designed with the following use case in mind: you're traveling with somebody you don't like, staying in a hotel, and you want to get away from him or her for a few days. you search for 'hikes near me' and look for something appealing. for that it would work well, as long as you use a real trail app to do the hiking. wikiloc sucks so bad for actually using on your phone while you are hiking. drains your battery. almost unusable.
I find this app very difficult to use. You tell it to start navigating a trail and it just shows you a bird's eye view of the whole route with a bunch of dots that are all very close together. Nothing about turning left or right here or there. I'm sure there's a way to get it to do that, but I couldn't find it.
only used the App twice but very impressed so far, easy to navigate the trails.
Pros. Many trails recorded by other people. Lots of photos and reviews. Both OSM and satellite layers available. Cons. It's extremely hard to record or follow a track. The app crashes continuously, the zoom is super slow, the only downloadable layer is poor, and I need to download the whole country (1GB). While recording, the app shows the correct dot but often fails to record the track. DON'T use this app as your primary navigation app. It crashes a lot.
AllTrails wannabe app. Clunky, inefficient interface. There are many more trails that show on other apps but not this one.
Great app for hiking. Trails uploaded (and tested) by other hikers. 3d viewer of the trail. Other hikers' estimate of trail difficulty tends to be optimistic. Used it in Albanian alps – many good trails!
Great app! Please improve trail search — most tracks are daily routines. Add filters or a “best for weekend” mode. A heatmap view would help find popular routes. No way to trim a recording if left running, and no in-app feedback option. Please also support more GPS devices like iGPSPORT, Wahoo, GeoID — not just Garmin. Thanks!
doesn't apply filter to map.I want to plan a dual sport route and the map defaults to hiking, default is set to dual sport motorcycle. only gives me 4 options on map, and that's not one of them!
The app is great for discovering routes. However it does not appear to be possible to load a .gpx of a route via the app.
The app didn't have permission to use my photos or posted photos of my children without their or mine permission on Wikiloc. There is no help email to remove them. I say it again. this app does not have permission to post or use my photos or access my photos or post photos of my kids. but it goes around my permissions. I'm currently trying to find out how to remove them with no luck.
I have been a premium member now for some years, and with each update, I am awaiting to see the addition in the settings the ability to disable/enable the process of making any route you record, automatically being made PUBLIC. At the moment, the only way to stop this is by manually entering the PRIVACY menu each time for every route you save. It's frustrating to do after a long ride. As we pay for the service of this app, then as a Premium feature, this really should be added!
Difficult to navigate app and website. if you sesrch for a trail in the app or online no result shows up. But if you Google search "Wikiloc and ______ trail", Google can find it on their site mysteriously. Forget about contacting them in any way. Not user friendly.
WearOS: great that someone developed an app that can navigate hikes by following a line on a map, its rare to find. Have experienced 3 issues though: 1) planning of routes doesnt see sidewalks as a usable path - only marked pathways 2)I was navigating on my wear os watch - i kept getting message "you are following a trail"on watch screen every time i activate screen. 3)watch map is laggy and GPS location is sometimes not updated frequently enough selection and map datail level is best i found
I live near the Alps and purchased the premium plan to find routes quickly and easily when I'm there. What you find when using Wikiloc is that 99% of the routes are rubbish. Everyone uploads whatever they want, and no one reviews anything. It's full of junk that prevents you from finding quality routes. I ended up stopping using it.
great app, but I don't understand why the 'plan trail' option doesn't support boat trips. I use the app for kayaking, for which it is excellent, but not being able to plan a kayak trip like you can for hiking is quite frustrating.
First half of the walk was wonderful but in the second half the "trail" disappeared and was blocked by three barbed wire fences which we had to climb with much difficulty. The last part of the trail guide is completely useless. Maybe the person who did it used a drone instead of walking it. Unless you are happy to stop the walk halfway and go back, or have strong wire cutters, don't go on this walk.
An application that is very slow in practice, and is really useless in sensitive situations. That is, if you went on a route where you wanted to use the experiences recorded in this app, you can't! Because you have to pay in advance! In fact, it exploits human freedom and health in a sensitive situation! Even when you go on a route yourself and save it, after a few hours you see that it wasn't saved because the application slows down at the end of the route!
Once great, now ... meh. A couple of years ago, it was easy to find trails and just get started hiking. I contributed quite a few myself. I took a break from using the app and now I discovered that I have to pay to get gps tracking on trails. I guess Wikiloc had to choose some kind of revenue model. I just wish it wasn't one that drew me the app in the first place.
