Standard scoring, and where leagues differ
Passing touchdowns at four rather than six is the convention that most confuses newcomers: it exists because quarterbacks throw far more touchdowns than running backs score, and six points each would make every other position irrelevant.
Why reception scoring changes everything
A pass-catching back with six receptions and 52 receiving yards gains six points in full PPR and none in standard. Across a season that is the difference between an RB1 and a flex player, on identical production. It is the single most important thing to check before valuing anyone in a league you have just joined.

How are fantasy football points calculated?
One point per 10 rushing or receiving yards, one per 25 passing yards, six points for rushing and receiving touchdowns, four for passing touchdowns, and minus two for interceptions and lost fumbles. Receptions are worth 1, 0.5 or 0 points depending on whether the league uses full PPR, half PPR or standard scoring.
What is the difference between PPR and standard scoring?
A point for every catch. It sounds minor and completely reorders the player pool: a back with 70 receptions gains 70 points across a season in full PPR and none in standard, which is often the gap between a first-round pick and a mid-round one on identical yardage.
Why are passing touchdowns only worth four points?
Because quarterbacks throw far more touchdowns than any other position scores. At six points each, the position would dominate scoring so heavily that no other pick would matter. Four is the convention that keeps quarterbacks valuable without making them the only thing that counts.
