Value over replacement, not raw points
A quarterback scoring 22 a game is not twice as valuable as a running back scoring 11, because you can pick up a quarterback scoring 17 from the waiver wire and the best running back available is scoring 6. What a player is worth is the gap between him and what you could have for free at that position.
Why 2-for-1 trades favour the side receiving the best player
Because starting spots are finite. Trading two mid-tier starters for one elite player opens a slot you fill from waivers, so you lose less than the raw points suggest — and you gain the top of the range, which is where championships are decided.
