So here's my honest take on PlantNet Plant Identification. I've tested a bunch of plant ID apps and this one's pretty solid. The AI is surprisingly accurate most of the time, and I like how it's also a citizen science project that collects plant data. Sure, it's not 100% perfect - sometimes it struggles with more obscure plants - but it's a really handy tool overall. Definitely better than just trying to ID stuff on your own.

Pros

  • Tons of plants in the database to identify
  • Easy to use and works well even on older phones
  • Contributing to a good cause by helping scientists
  • Free to use without needing to pay for anything

Cons

  • Can be inaccurate with more uncommon plants
  • Plant encyclopedia is a bit confusing to navigate
  • Occasional bugs or crashes when using the camera
  • Lots of ads if you don't pay for the premium version

Description

Been using PlantNet Plant Identification for a couple months now. It’s basically an app that lets you take a photo of a plant and it’ll tell you what it is. Pretty solid if you’re into identifying random plants you come across.

Here’s what you do: you just snap a pic and the app analyzes it. There’s also a community aspect where you can contribute your plant photos to help scientists. And there’s a plant encyclopedia with info on thousands of different species – took me a while to figure that out but it’s actually really useful.

Look, if you’re into nature and plants, you’ll probably like this. It’s not perfect – the ID accuracy can be hit or miss sometimes – but overall it does the job. Worth checking out if you want to learn more about the plants around you.
