So here's my take on GENKI Kanji for 3rd Ed. I've tested a bunch of Japanese language learning apps and this one's pretty solid. The content is great - it covers the core 317 kanji that beginners need to know. In my experience, the word lists and quizzes are effective for building recognition. But the app itself is a little basic and could use some UI improvements. Not as polished as some other apps, but it gets the job done.

Description

Been using GENKI Kanji for 3rd Ed. for a couple months now. It’s basically an app that helps you learn basic kanji through studying kanji words. Pretty solid if you’re trying to get better at reading and writing Japanese.

Here’s what you do: there are over 1,100 kanji words for you to study at your own pace. You can view the kanji and example words, plus there are quizzes to test your progress. It’s got some extra features like audio pronunciations which are handy. But took me a while to figure some of that out.

Look, if you’re studying Japanese, you’ll probably like this. It’s not perfect – the interface can be a bit clunky at times – but overall it does the job. Worth checking out if you want to build up your kanji skills.
