So here's my honest take on Bar Is Loaded 2 - Gym Math. I've tested a bunch of fitness apps and this one's pretty solid. The plate loading calculator is super useful and I like how you can customize your equipment. The extra calculators are a nice bonus too. The only real downside is the UI feels a little dated, but it's functional. Overall, if you want a simple app to help with your lifting, this is a pretty good option.

Pros

  • Tons of useful features like plate loading, Wilks score, RPE, and more
  • Easy to customize with your own equipment
  • Does the job without being overly complicated
  • Free to use, no need to pay for anything
  • Runs smoothly even on older phones

Cons

  • UI is a bit clunky and could use a refresh
  • Calculators can take some getting used to
  • Might get repetitive after a while if you only use a few features
  • Occasional ads can be annoying

Description

Been using Bar Is Loaded 2 – Gym Math for a couple months now. It’s basically a plate loading calculator app to help you figure out how many plates to put on the bar, whether you’re prepping for leg day or a powerlifting meet. Pretty solid app if you’re into that kind of thing.

Here’s what you do: you can customize your inventory with the different plates and bars you have, and then just punch in the weight you need to hit. It’ll tell you exactly how to load the bar. There’s also calculators for Wilks score, RPE, and some other powerlifting metrics – that’s pretty cool. And the reverse calculator is useful for quick adjustments.

Look, if you’re into weightlifting and tracking your lifts, you’ll probably like this. It’s not perfect – the UI can be a bit clunky sometimes – but overall it does the job. Worth checking out.

When I'm exhausted from multiple sets building to heavy. I'm not mathing. I'm letting the app do the heavy work.

Henry Gong October 18, 2025

Best app I've used for powerlifting prep. Let's me go all in on picking up heavy things instead of thinking or doing math.
