So here's my honest take on Universal TV Remote Control. I've tested a bunch of TV remote apps and this one's pretty solid. The core functionality works really well - I can control my TV from anywhere in the house which is super convenient. The setup was a little tricky at first but once I got it connected, it's been smooth sailing. The extra features like smart home controls are a nice bonus too. Only downsides are the occasional bugs and the ads can get old. But for a free app, it's a great option if you're constantly losing your actual remote.

Description

Been using Universal TV Remote Control for a couple months now. It’s basically an app that lets you control your TV with your phone. Pretty solid if you’re always losing the actual remote.

Here’s what you do: you connect the app to your TV through WiFi or the IR blaster on your phone. And then you can navigate your TV, change channels, adjust volume – all from the app. There’s also some cool features like being able to play/pause videos and even control smart home devices. Took me a while to figure some of that out but it’s really useful.

Look, if you’re constantly misplacing your TV remote, you’ll probably like this app. It’s not perfect – the setup can be a bit finicky and the ads can get annoying. But overall it does the job and it’s free to use, so worth checking out.

Misleading to call it a universal remote app when there's no option at all for an Element TV.

Amy Carr October 18, 2025

What a joke. Trying to connect to the TV requires an existing remote. If I had that, I wouldn't need the app.

Larry Maner October 18, 2025

Way too many ads. I can't do anything without having an ad pop up. No thanks. Uninstalled.
