So here's my take on Route 66 Navigation. I've tried a bunch of navigation apps for road trips and this one stands out for its focus on the historic Route 66 route. And in my experience, the offline maps work really well and the points of interest notifications are a nice touch. The downside is the app can feel a bit basic compared to something like Google Maps. But if you're specifically looking to explore Route 66, this is a pretty good option.

Pros

  • Tons of historical landmarks and attractions along Route 66
  • Offline mode is super convenient, no data roaming needed
  • Turn-by-turn directions for both eastbound and westbound
  • Free to use, no need to pay for anything

Cons

  • Maps could be more detailed and visually appealing
  • Can be confusing to navigate the app at first
  • Gets repetitive after a while, lacks variety

Description

Been using Route 66 Navigation for a couple months now. It’s basically an app that lets you navigate the historic Route 66 highway from Chicago to Santa Monica. Pretty solid if you’re into road trips and exploring Americana.

Here’s what you can do – there’s turn-by-turn directions for going both east and west on Route 66. And it’s got over 1,300 attractions and landmarks along the way with notifications so you don’t miss anything. And the offline mode is super handy, you just download the maps beforehand and you’re good to go even in areas with no signal.

Look, if you’re a Route 66 fan or just like scenic road trips, you’ll probably get a kick out of this app. It’s not perfect – the maps could be a bit more detailed and the UI takes some getting used to. But overall it does the job and is worth checking out.

While I appreciate that the app keeps you on 66, the app is terrible. When you're following the route and minimize the app to do anything else on your phone,...
