So here's my honest take on The San Francisco Chronicle app. I've tested a bunch of news apps and this one's pretty solid overall. The coverage is comprehensive and I like how you can customize it to your interests. And the digital newspaper and audio features are nice additions too. That said, the free version can get a little ad-heavy after a while, and I wish the app had a more modern, intuitive design. But if you're looking for a one-stop-shop for SF news, this is definitely worth checking out.

  • Cool features like digital newspaper and audio articles
  • Free to download and use, though subscription unlocks more

Cons

  • The design feels a bit dated and cluttered
  • Ads can get annoying if you don't pay for the premium version

Description

Been using The San Francisco Chronicle for a couple months now. It’s basically a news app that covers everything happening in the Bay Area – from local politics and business to food and sports. Pretty solid if you’re into staying up-to-date with what’s going on in SF.

Here’s what you can do: you can customize the news topics you care about and get alerts, check out the latest on the Giants and Warriors, and even read restaurant reviews and find new spots to try. There’s also a digital version of the newspaper you can flip through, and you can listen to articles using the built-in text-to-speech feature. Took me a bit to figure that one out but it’s pretty useful.

Look, if you live in the Bay Area or just love keeping up with everything going on in San Francisco, you’ll probably like this app. It’s not perfect – the ads can get a little annoying if you don’t pay for the subscription – but overall it does a great job of keeping you informed on local news and happenings.
