So here's my honest take on KIRI Engine: 3D Scanner App. I've tested a bunch of 3D scanning and modeling apps, and this one's pretty impressive for a mobile app. The scanning features work really well, and the 3D model quality is great. And i like how it's got tools for things like texture mapping and mesh editing. At the same time, it can be a bit finicky to use at first, and the free version is pretty limited. But if you're serious about 3D printing or creating 3D art on your phone, this is one of the better options out there.

Pros

  • Tons of 3D scanning options like photogrammetry and neural network-powered featureless object scanning
  • Produces high-quality 3D models that are ready for 3D printing
  • Includes 3D editing tools like texture mapping and mesh editing
  • Free to download and use, though pro features require a subscription

Cons

  • Steep learning curve, took me a while to figure out all the features
  • Free version is quite limited, you'll need to pay for a subscription to unlock full functionality
  • Can be buggy or crash occasionally, especially when dealing with large 3D models

Description

Been using the KIRI Engine: 3D Scanner App for a couple months now. It’s basically an app that lets you create high-quality 3D models on your phone. Pretty solid if you’re into 3D scanning, modeling, or 3D printing.

Here’s what you do: you can either use the Photo Scan feature to turn photos into 3D models, or the Featureless Object Scan which uses a cool neural network trick to scan shiny or flat objects. And there’s also a 3D Gaussian Splatting mode that captures your whole scene in 3D from a video. It’s got a bunch of tools for editing and tweaking the 3D models once you’ve scanned them.

Look, if you’re an artist, designer, or 3D printing hobbyist, you’ll probably really like this app. It’s not perfect – the learning curve is a bit steep and the free version has some limitations. But overall it does the job and is worth checking out.
