So here's my take on DRAGON QUEST V. I've tested a bunch of mobile RPGs and this one's definitely up there in terms of depth and production value. The story and characters are super engaging, and I love the multi-generational angle. And the strategic combat is also pretty satisfying, even if it takes a little while to get the hang of. But I will say that the game can feel a bit grindy at higher levels, and the older graphics might not be for everyone. Overall though, it's a pretty great JRPG that I'd recommend to any fans of the series or the genre.

Pros

  • Tons of strategic depth without being overwhelming
  • Graphics look great and run smooth on older phones

  • Epic story that spans multiple generations of a family
  • Turn-based combat with some neat monster recruitment mechanics

Cons

  • Upgrades take forever at higher levels
  • Pacing can be a bit slow at times
  • Graphics are a little dated compared to modern RPGs
  • Can get a bit grindy and repetitive after a while

Description

Been playing DRAGON QUEST V for a couple months now. It’s basically a classic JRPG where you build up your village, recruit monsters to your party, and go on a grand adventure spanning three generations. Pretty solid game if you’re into that kind of thing.

Here’s what you do: You start off as a young kid traveling with your dad, but over time you grow up, get married, and have a family of your own. There’s also a ton of story and character development – it’s got an epic feel to it. And the combat is turn-based but with some neat strategic elements, like being able to recruit monsters to fight alongside you.

Look, if you’re a DRAGON QUEST fan or just like in-depth RPGs, you’ll probably love this. It’s not perfect – the pacing can be slow at times and the graphics are a bit dated – but overall it does the job. Definitely worth checking out if you’re looking for a meaty, old-school JRPG experience on your phone.
