So here's my honest take on Sky Map. I've tested a bunch of astronomy and stargazing apps, and this one's pretty solid overall. The features are robust without being overly complicated, and I love how you can just point your phone at the sky and it identifies what you're looking at. And the graphics are great and it runs smoothly even on my older Android device. My main gripe is that the map sometimes lags a bit when you're moving around, but it's not a dealbreaker. If you're into this kind of thing, I'd definitely recommend giving Sky Map a try.

Description

I’ve been using Sky Map for a couple months now. It’s basically a hand-held planetarium for your Android device – you can use it to identify stars, planets, nebulae, and more. Pretty solid app if you’re into stargazing or just curious about what’s up there in the night sky.

Here’s what you can do: you can point your phone at the sky and it’ll show you what stars and constellations you’re looking at. And there’s also a search feature where you can look up specific celestial objects. And you can even get information on things like the phases of the moon – took me a while to figure that out but it’s a cool feature.

Look, if you’re into astronomy or just enjoy learning about space, you’ll probably like this app. It’s not perfect – the map doesn’t always update as quickly as I’d like – but overall it does the job of being a helpful little stargazing companion. Worth checking out for sure.

Update: It works perfectly again! When it works, 5 stars. I'm not sure what happened, except perhaps that I upgraded my Samsung operating system (which seemed to destroy a lot...

Worked amazingly well until it didn't. I loved everything about it until I could no longer calibrate the app. I'm an avid star gazer (amateur), so this was so fun!...

As always with Google, they had a decent app- then continued to update it until its totally useless. I enjoyed it for a long time, now it doesn't track smoothly...
