I've tested a bunch of language learning apps and Lingvano is one of the better ones, especially for ASL. The video lessons are really clear and the variety of practice activities helps the signs sink in. It's not the most advanced or comprehensive app out there, but for beginners it's a pretty solid way to start learning sign language. Definitely better than trying to teach yourself from YouTube videos.

Pros

  • Tons of video lessons taught by Deaf instructors
  • Quizzes and practice tools to reinforce what you learn
  • Bite-sized lessons make it easy to learn a little at a time
  • Slow down video speed if you need to

Cons

  • Lessons can get a little repetitive after a while
  • Limited customization - you can't create your own vocab lists
  • Occasional ads can be annoying if you don't pay for the pro version

Description

Been using Lingvano: Sign Language – ASL for a couple months now. It’s basically an app that teaches American Sign Language through video lessons and interactive practice. Pretty solid if you’re trying to learn ASL.

Here’s what you do: There’s hundreds of bite-sized video lessons where Deaf instructors teach you signs and grammar. You can match the signs to pictures, do quizzes, and even slow down the videos if you need to. It’s got some cool practice tools to help the vocab stick in your brain.

Look, if you’re trying to learn sign language, you’ll probably like this app. It’s not perfect – the lessons can get a little repetitive after a while – but overall it does a good job of teaching the basics in a fun, interactive way. Worth checking out.

It's a great app until you get halfway though chapter 2. I got through 9 lessons (5 in ch 1 and 4 in ch 2) before it made me pay...
