So here's my take on Appcompanist. I've tested a bunch of music apps like this and I'd say it's one of the better ones. The level of control you get over the accompaniment tracks is really impressive - way more than any other app I've used. And it takes some getting used to but once you figure it out, it's a game changer for singers and voice teachers. The downsides are the occasional audio issues and the interface could be a little more intuitive. But overall it's a pretty solid app that I'd recommend if you need that kind of functionality.

Pros

  • Tons of control over accompaniment tracks - change key, tempo, add fermatas, etc.
  • Works great for classical and musical theater singers
  • Free to use with optional paid features
  • Saves custom versions of songs you edit

Cons

  • Audio quality can be hit or miss at times
  • Interface is a bit clunky and takes some getting used to
  • Ads can be annoying if you don't pay for the premium version

Description

Been using Appcompanist for a couple months now. It’s basically an app that gives you full control over piano accompaniment recordings for singers and voice teachers. Pretty solid app if you’re into classical or musical theater.

Here’s what you can do: You can transpose the recordings to any key, adjust the tempo, and even blend a melody guide track in and out as the song plays. And there’s also options to add fermatas, ritardandos, and all sorts of other musical stuff. Took me a while to figure out all the features but it’s super useful once you get the hang of it.

Look, if you’re a classical or musical theater singer, you’ll probably really like this app. It’s not perfect – sometimes the audio quality isn’t great and the interface can be a little clunky. But overall it does the job and gives you way more control than just playing a regular accompaniment recording. Worth checking out for sure.

Great concept and love that we can have so much control over the music to practice. I wish there were a way to add formatas into tracks without having to...
