Reviews for Ascension: Catholic Bible

← Back to Ascension: Catholic Bible

Wonderful resource to use for Ascension's Bible in a Year and Catechism in a Year. I love that they added the daily readings and a short video to meditate on the Mass readings. I also love that the paid version of the app gives you access to several of Ascension's wonderful studies such as Adventure Bible program, Theology of the Body, deeper studies on different books of the Bible, etc. Please keep adding more studies!

I originally left a bad review because I thought the $60 a year was a crazy price (I still think that), but updating to 4 stars because it is a really well made app and easy on the eyes to read daily. My one suggestion for 5 stars is adding an option to highlight/mark Bible chapters in the Bible overview page, that way I don't lose my place if I read two different areas, maybe just give like 3 colors or markings to choose, like ribbons.

I am so excited for this app! It is fantastic to have both The Great Adventure Bible and Ascension's version of the Catechism in a digital format. I am able to instantly pull them up when I'm having discussions of Fr. Mike "In a Year" podcasts. This afternoon, while waiting for my car (a few hours), I was able to listen to Fr. Mike's podcasts while reading along! I didn't have to wait until I was home with my Bible or Catechism - I was able to make constructive use of this down time!

This is my favorite Bible app, and it easily has the best online/digital Catechism. The Bible comes with all the same notes, cross references, commentary, and features of the physical Great Adventure Bible (which is also my favorite Catholic Bible). On top of this, you get Fr. Mike's Bible in a Year podcast and Catechism in a Year podcast. It is a well-designed, good-looking, functional app, and I highly recommend it.

Perfect timing! I had been looking for an e-book Bible, and this one is free. I love that you can read or listen. No matter how many times Jeff Cavins says to make notes in your Bible, I can't write in a book. I will be highlighting and writing notes all over this Bible ap. I have the beautiful Adventure Bible and Ascension Catechism (so gorgeous, totally worth the price) and now I can take them with me. So many great qualities besides convenience.

I enjoy listening to the Bible in a Year, and the Rosary in a Year, but I have a lot of problems with the app. If I listen to an episode, it doesn't mark it as listened to, so then it's hard to remember where I'm at. If I try to listen to a second episode in the same day, it stops in the middle. Also, the go back and go forward buttons never work so I always have to listen to the whole spiel at the beginning with what you're reading from, etc, etc. I can not pause it either. Frustrating.

This app is awesome! You can very easily listen to Fr. Mike read the Bible! You can also change audio playback speed. One suggestion I have for the devs is to only allow one book of the Bible to be expanded at a time. So essentially, when you expand a book when you already have another book expanded, the previously expanded book will collapse. That flow seems intuitive to me and would make it so the books of the Bible page can never become cluttered. Great job guys!

I am loving it so far!!! This is literally everything I need to keep up with my reading and study on the go. I've been wanting a good Catholic Bible app for a while. AND it has the Catechism, too?! This is now my my favorite Catholic app (tied with Hallow). My only request, as far as functionality goes, is to please add the ability to reorient to landscape mode when your device is horizontal. It would be so much easier to take notes with my tablet that way. Can't wait to see it grow! TYSM!!!

This is a wonderful app. It's one of my preferred Bible translations (I like the original RSV-CE a little bit more), it has the Catechism built in, and the notes are insightful and from authoritative teachers (Popes, scholars, etc). The UI is intuitive and easy on the eyes. The only thing I can think of that might make it better is the ability to copy from the notes as is possible from the Scripture itself.

I loaded this application for the audio function of the app because I have dyslexia and it would help me learn the Bible better. Seem to work well with the Bible. Unfortunately the audio doesn't work for the catechism section of the readings. You have switches to turn on but no audio to play. Very poor and for the price that they're charging you would think audio would be on. Plus there's no help, I presume you need to pray for it. I am praying that the will response and let me know the fix.

I have needed something offering The Bible in a Year & The Catechism in a Year all in one easy to use place. Listening to those podcasts on other platforms was possible before now, but filtering through other podcasts sometimes caused a distraction I didn't need. I also like the availability of the entire Bible in either audio or written format, including several audio "footnotes," which come in handy. The entire Bible is read by Fr Mike. You can highlight and save favorite passages.

This App is wonderful when it works. I have had to uninstall and reinstall it too many times! It also takes a long time to load compared to my Hallow App. I feel guilty even writing this review, but I am a day behind in The Rosary in a Year Podcast and the app is frozen. I just finished The 7 Deadly Sins podcast and wanted to start RIY and it's frozen. Maybe I need to let it go - pun intended from the cartoon movie. .

An essential Catholic app. It has both the entire Bible and Catechism. They are both very clean to look at, and were digitaly transformed perfectly. I understand why they had to have a subscription service for the extra info from a business standpoint. Other than that, it is still overflowing with useful info. I am having an issue right now where I can't open the app, but other than that, it is basically perfect.

Very good This is a good app. I think I like this better than the paper edition. I prefer the Catholic edition Revised Standard version to the Protestant version. I am thinking of buying about 3 hard copies to give as gifts. I am an Eastern Orthodox Christian, by conversion, and don't see myself being anything else. I thing I find that does not please me. Is the subscription price, being an annual expense, should be unnecessary If I purchase it, it will be only once!

I love the Bible in a Year and Rosary in a Year, and have previously listened on spotify. Even though Fr. Mark Mary claims that the Ascension app is the best place to listen, there is zero benefit in listening through this app. It does not keep track of your progress. You have to manually mark each episode as completed, and scroll down the list of episodes every day to find the next one. Not a big deal when you're on day 39, but this goes on for a year!

I was so excited for this app, and it did not disappoint! The Bible and the Catechism in one place?! Brilliant! I LOVE the clickable cross references. The one "issue" I have experienced, is at the end of Bible chapters the last line or two gets cut off before scrolling up to jump to the next chapter. I have noticed in the Catechism (currently in the 1300s about the Eucharist), some of the longer quotes are listed within the paragraph, and then also again underneath with a line separating it.

I really love this app. I very much appreciate having all the Bible and Catechism resources in one place. The layout is clean and easy to follow. Both podcasts pick right up where I left off so big plus there. For me, it's missing two things which hold it back at 4 stars. Please add Android Auto support for those of us who like to listen while driving. Also please include dark mode to make it a little easier on the eyes. Then will be 5 stars for sure! ✝️

I love the ascension app. There is so much content to choose from. I listen to several things each morning as I get ready for work and sometimes more in my car. I've done Bible in a year and catechism in a year, and now I'm going back to do Bible in a year again hoping to take the time to actually sit with my Great Adventure Bible and read along, highlight, take notes etc. There is always more to learn and just listening It's easy to get distracted. So hope to get even more out of it.

The app is okay, it needs some help. It almost always lags when you want to pause a podcast or rewind or anything like that. It doesn't have an option to continue playing the next episode automatically without manually starting it. Sometimes it will randomly start playing the next episode but it's a glitch and it stops eventually. I only use the free version for Bible in a year, I'm almost done with that and I will be switching to Hallow for my next listen and for Catechism in a year.

I really like this app a lot. It's easy to use. I even subscribe so that I can get the various Bible studies. Why just 4 stars? It does not accurately track my progress. When I listen to BiaY, it ALWAYS leaves me with a few seconds left, usually around 15, even though I listened to the entire episode. If I re-listen to the episode, it starts at the beginning. I have to manually set my completion on each episode. This is a real annoyance since none of my other apps have this problem. Please fix!
