Love Barnes and Noble the actual store, hate the app. Takes too long to load anything, you have to hit the "enter" button on searches multiple times and even then you're lucky if it actually gives you results, and the "check local stores" drives me insane as it also takes way too long to load. At this point, I'll just stick to either going to my local store after calling to check inventory or Amazon.

But could not ship to my address, a PO Box. So I chose in store pickup for the nearest store 12 miles away. But 4 of 7 were not available at this store, I would have to go to different store farther away at almost $6/gal in WA. No. Then at pickup 1 of the 3 was not avail. Only able to get 2 of 7 books I tried to order. Unacceptable.
What use is a bookselling app that won't let you buy books? Locks up tighter than a drum, won't let you login, won't load, can't buy anything let alone even browse. There's loads of complaints about the same problem, and it appears to be an ongoing issue. It's not worth my time and frustration. I'm deleting the apps. If or when BN gets their stuff together and their apps actually work, I might -- might -- be back.
This by far is one of the slowest non-functioning apps I've ever used. I can't seem to add anything to a cart. Delete anything from a cart. It takes 20 minutes to update. It freezes when I log in. Trying to pull up a book or search for a book is an endeavor to say the least. I am really questioning ever using this app again as the entire process has brought me back to 1999 dial up feelings. I am pretty positive that if Barnes& Noble's app server was running on a potato, it would run better.
Update to respond - I have uninstalled and reinstalled and updated the app. The app still has a ton of flaws. I can't sign in anymore. When I do it just goes back to the sign in screen. The app is fine when it wants to work. But it still needs a lot of work. It crashes often. Doesn't keep you signed in. Lags for days. Just overall not great. I also wish you could see the deals on the app, like buy one get one half off, but the app doesn't offer that either.
I always freezes up. This app is one of the worst shopping apps I currently have. It constantly freezes up and randomly logs me out when it takes too long to load a page. Also, as a bookstore it would be way convenient to be about to click on a book and then if it's a series the rest of the series is somewhere on that page for you to look at. Romance is a super popular and money making genre, let's make it easier and more appealing to shop for on the app.
When the app works, I love it. However, it has only worked maybe 10% of the time I've been using it. At this point, it just takes up space on my phone. I'm constantly being signed out, and when I sign back in (with proper credentials), it sends me right back to the sign in page. I'm never able to scan my membership, I'm never able to look at the books on my wishlist. It's like b&n doesn't want me to shop there. Most inconvenient app I've ever used.
The app is fine, I suppose, but it takes a really long time to load anything. It takes a long time to load the app when you pull it up, a long time after you sign in, and a long time to load your search results or your filter results. I also find it very difficult to browse for books on here as the filter options are not great and don't really allow you to simply shop by genre or section of the store they would be in.
This app is the WORST! Absolutely useless for shopping. I prefer to shop online, and this is the main reason I started buying most of my media from Amazon. And I 100% agree with the other reviews. The IT team needs to focus more on fixing the bugs and less on responding to negative reviews. It lags so badly that it's impossible to purchase anything through the app, which is extremely frustrating. FIX IT!!!!!!
I mainly use this app as a way to a list of books I want to read in the future. I have a tendency to not remember my passwords because most apps have a 'stay signed in' option. So I don't like that it signs me out after each use. Not to mention, it runs slow and can be faulty. I tried to use a reward, and I couldn't at check out. I just tried to send an email to reset my password, and it's saying it's an invalid email. FIX IT
The concept of the app is promising, but the execution leaves much to be desired. The response time feels like a throwback to the dial-up era, which makes for a frustrating user experience. One major improvement would be the ability to select specific books for purchase directly from your cart. Alternatively, a TBR (to-be-read) wishlist feature linked to your account would be a great addition, allowing users to curate their selections and choose what to checkout seamlessly. Also, you can't access your gift cards to scan in the app when you are in the store, so you have to have the physical gift card on you. Super frustrating. It has the potential to be a great app.
This app is the most irritating thing. It's been broken and people have been complaining about it for years now. The app goes back to the main page whenever you take too long. It never remembers your cart. I have to constantly reload to get the rewards slider to work. It's impossible to get the two-step verification to work in checkout. Customer service is inaccessible, etc. I think I'm just going to uninstall it and I don't think I'm renewing my membership. B&N just doesn't care anymore.
this app makes it feel like they don't want me purchasing anything from them. the app itself is slow and buggy and regularly crashes. but I was trying to order through the app and it asked me to put in my address and then every time I submitted the info it rejected it because you can't leave the country slot empty. even though it was filled. it rejected it repeatedly and also repeatedly emptied my cart while I was trying to figure out some way to input my address so it would ship to me. horrible
I love the option to get my books shipped to me, BUT THE APP HARDLY WORKS! It runs so slow and delayed, the search system does not give you all the options even if it's word for word. It's less of a headache to just go to a store to order books. don't bother with customer service cause they help with nothing. and watch out for fake emails they enjoy sending, they don't help with that either. I don't even know if I want to use Barnes and Noble as a company anymore
I love B&N but this app stresses me out! It was working fine for a couple of months & then two weeks ago it started bugging again. It's incredibly slow, crashes at least once every time I use it, & logs me out while I'm browsing books or making a purchase. Even with perfect mobile service or a strong Wi-Fi connection. The app has always been slow, but it's somehow worse now. Sidenote: It would be nice if I could somehow see what books I've purchased in-store. But that's just me, probably lol
I only downloaded this app because the website is literally unusable (won't even load most of the time). Unfortunately, the app isn't better. I want to upgrade my legacy membership, but get a server error when I try to log in. I searched "planner" and got ZERO results. I love the B&N store, but this is just ridiculous for a modern business.
App functionality is getting worse. Now it no longer saves anything "saved for later", it doesn't load previous orders or wishlists for that matter. Half the time when browsing, the lists don't fully load/populate. I get a ton of advertising emails per day telling me to check out certain books, but if I click on it because I'm actually interested, the link doesn't actually take me to anything besides the home page. App is mostly broken.
I can usually scroll for books but when it's time to sign in to my account it fails constantly. It's so rare for me to be able to sign in that I don't bother. I have to order through the website (on a computer, mobile site sometimes has formatting issues) or go into the store and order from the help desk. Can you all do an overhaul to fix this, please? *Not a new problem. It's been the same situation for years.*
This slow, buggy app has one of the worst search and browse interfaces that I have seen in all of e-commerce. Search is fuzzy by default with no way to enable an actual keyword search or search only sale items. Results are cluttered with items that are unavailable in-store or online, with no apparent way to remove them. Filtering, sorting, and viewing options are all very limited. Customer service via chat is rude & unprofessional and would rather end the chat than admit an error and apologize.
