I've just played the first two chapters, and it already feels like I am making progress in finding myself; something I have been stuck on for years. The actual buy price seems a bit steep ($30ish one time for the lowest tier), but with just the free trial I'm thinking it might be worth it if I can fit it into my budget.
Reviews for Betwixt—The Mental Health Game
← Back to Betwixt—The Mental Health GameThis game used to be really cool and helpful until the developers, for some reason, decided to lock a big portion of the game behind the Elder pay wall. Before, it was optional and gave you some extra features. Now it's REQUIRED to access the rest of the game. Unbelievable. What a way to ruin a great game.
This game is underwhelming, starting from the word go. The style is text adventure, with emphasis on the word text. The narration appears on the left , while the odd dialogue choice you make appears on the right. The story has a glacial meandering pace, that really sells the feel of psychoanalysis by an invisible psych 1 student fresh from class and trying hard to put you in a box. The game tries to beg you for 20 dollars to upgrade at every moment it can. There's more, but I'm out of letters.
The art and the sound design were amazing. The concept is very cool. But I give this a low rating because from very early on, the options the game gave me are unrelated and unhelpful. I could not move forward in the story while being true to my own feelings, thus it felt less like personal exploration and more like being gas lit by someone telling me that I'm weak and insecure. There were no options for someone self-certain. I find that disturbing if the game is supposed to empower people.
Got some serious skepticism about this one. This is a cool way to write a self-help book, but I wish it was more up-front about that. The first chapter is free (with a couple extra if you sign up) and then there are three paid tiers, and to buy all the content and unlimited saves it's around fifty dollars. If you'd drop that on a fancy self-help journal, give it a shot. I wouldn't waste my money though - vibes are a bit dodgy.
so far amazing, I want to continue Yes I'm waiting! I'm captivated by your app. Id probably keep going all night if I had access. I will not be able to upgrade at anytime do to financial issues. So if this is a ongoing thing needing to upgrade I'm gonna have to uninstall. Please understand I absolutely love the app, beside needing money part, great concept. And I have been trying to figure out where I lost myself and find me again. I feel stuck in a stagnant ponds and not sure what to do!
Not for me. I don't jive well with being a protagonist given limited responses, because there's often not an option that is correct for me. I also found out in the first dream that the idea of being stuck out in a blizzard terrifies me, so it really started me off on a bad foot by unexpectedly triggering my anxiety. I can see how this story format could be helpful for some people, but after completing the free dreams, it seems I'm just not one of them.
Just didn't do anything for me. I didn't feel connected to it. I kept seeing all these content warnings in the app, as if it might affect me somehow, but it was so pedestrian I was bored, waiting for something to connect with me. It never happened. If others are helped by this app, that's cool for them. I was unaffected and unimpressed. I even used my expensive headphones to be as immersed as I could be. Still did nothing for me.
interesting, fun, thought provoking to a point. I wish we could put our own answer to any of the questions. maybe integrate some ai into this so it can adapt to our own answers provided, then I think 5* for sure. some of the options just aren't answers I would give. other than that, the visuals are well laid out, I can feel the cold, then the slight warm up coming. I can see the things referenced in the distance. I'd say I'm immersed in the experience. first time playing a game like this.
Wow! Through a text-based adventure, I'm learning more about myself and learning valuable skills. And in the 4th "dream" (chapter), I actually got some healing from a memory from my childhood. It's done so gently that it's almost effortless. And afterwards they have additional resources - a summary of the dream, articles for deeper understanding, and a place to write a short journal entry about that dream. Everyone can benefit from this!
Initially, I really fell in love with this app. It is really quite beautiful and unique. I was unfortunately not able to afford to pay for the upgrade so I did request a free spot, and it took quite a few days to get approved. Also, your free spot does NOT include the other resources on the app. All of the meditations and some of other things are still locked unless you upgrade. Just know that if you are paying for someone else's story, they are not actually getting full access.
The free chapters left me wanting more. Amazing storytelling that encourages self reflection and growth. I really needed an app like this. It's engaging, and while validating, it is also a bit challenging due to that inward looking aspect. I'm rambling, but what I'm trying to say is, it's been a great way to end my night for about a week, and I still want more, which is pretty rare for me in an app like this.
The first couple dreams were interesting and entertaining. I enjoy introspection and having some structure to introspection can be nice. Ultimately though, when I was asked to categorize myself into one of 5 types, I felt pulled out a bit. I picked an option that felt ok at the time, but the questions that followed really didn't resonate with me and there was no way to go back or start the dream over. I think the idea is solid, but my interest plummeted in that moment.
Really wanted to like this app, but just wasn't for me. Foremost, I appreciate that the devs offer a few free accounts that unlock the full chapters (but not resources) for those who can't afford them. But, I agree with other reviews that it's not clear that ch. 1 fully reflects the rest of the app experience without resources. Although I found ch. 1 pleasantly insightful, ch. 2 & 3 were increasingly tedious & seemed to be searching for specific answers. Interesting format, but not for everyone.
I was honestly a little sceptical at first, there are a lot of apps similar that do an ok job but are very generalized and mostly stuff you've seen and heard before. This app takes that to a whole new level it walks you through stuff in a fun and non invasive way; it's genital but profound and really helps guide your thoughts to what you want them to be in a way that's easy and flows well. The developers also seem to genuinely care about the people they are helping.
This is the most amazing app for anyone struggling with mental health. the nonjudgemental and compassionate guide provides an infinitely safe space to explore what makes you you-what are your strengths, weaknesses, and even the things you love that you had forgotten underneath all the noise as well as healthily working through issues without pressure or monthly fees. There are no adds or requests to review and tier options for literally every budget from free and up. I highly reccommend this app
this is the most effective mental health help I have ever used. it allowed me to see things from a perspective I never have before. I feel more confident and excited for changes I thought would never happen before this app. It's had a better impact on my life than any therapy or medication ever has. I recommend it to everyone no matter what they're going through! my only issue is I wish I had selected a free slot at the start because now I can't do the infinite dream, otherwise great app!
2 minutes into the game and it's giving me anxiety instead of relieving it, first off, I slowed down the text as much as possible, they really need to put in 2 more levels of slower text, 2nd they need to have the text scrolling, every new text bubble is WAY too jarring when it appears, once I find my place again, I'm 2 words in and another jarring text bubble pops up, no better way to create anxiety than to shove a whole bunch of text at them, wanting them to read as fast as possible.
After seeing this marketed as something to help with ADHD, I wasn't expecting it to go in the direction it did. And I didn't even start getting into it because it required a lot of focus. Then even setting it on the fastest speed wasn't very fast, and I'm not a beginner to the stuff that's leading through. It would be great if it had an entry quiz to determine where to start. I also don't have money to subscribe and will likely miss any email for the free things.
I was enjoying the start of app. I had thought the first few sections were free; however, from the beginning you only get a little taste of what is offered & it has locked items you can't get to without paying for an upgrade. I might have considered an upgrade but there is not enough to experience to show me if it will be a good fit. Disappointed. I feel like I wasted my time going through chapter 1. I was really excited to use this app & I cannot afford to throw money at something I can't see.
