Unusable without network connection. You download a book of the Bible in audio format for listening to offline, but then you can't even start the app when you are offline. I have it two stars instead of one because the audio us actually pretty good, but since I can't actually listen to it when I'm offline, it's basically useless. Also, the user interface is fairly unintuitive and the app is buggy. Also, pressing back on a remote control navigates to the previous chapter instead of 15 seconds.
Reviews for Bible - Audio & Video Bibles
← Back to Bible - Audio & Video BiblesThis is a helpful app, except for a few issues: frequently, when I pause a chapter and come back to it several minutes later, the app will have forgotten my location and will start over again. There is no way to control the ch. progress via the phone's controls in the lock screen or from a Bluetooth headset. So if you want to pause the track, go on to the next, or start playing again, you have to be in the app. This almost makes it unworkable. I would use another app if given the option
Used to enjoy this app! It remember my spot, had my info saved, and my notes. Once the update came out, all of my notes got taken away, my account seemed to no longer exist, and my spot is never saved and I have to relogin Everytime I wanna use the app. Another issue is that it takes forever to think or load. I click play or pause and it takes a while 3 minutes to work. (Yes I timed it)
When I first installed Bible.is, I loved it, the selection of different trandlations of God's Word, but found that when I wanted to play it offline, it didn't work. I reinstalled it, which helped, but since then it has been slow (2+ minutes to load a chapter), repeated chapters, or not worked at all if though I'd downloaded the entire Bible for offline use. I've finally decided to stop using it and search for a more reliable app.
I love that this is a Bible app that focuses on the audio. That's the main way I read it, and making a Playlist that loops whatever books I have in there is awesome, BUT it is not user friendly. It puts chapters in out of order, and when you edit them, sometimes it saves the changes, sometimes it doesn't. Currently trying to remove some chapters but they won't leave the Playlist :( Hope this issue gets fixed!
I love using this every morning to set the atmosphere of my home and to mentally start my day right, after prayer and manually reading the Bible. What I love most is being able to create a playlist. If I want to be encouraged in an area, I will create a playlist of verses about that and play the list over and over. My issue is that the audio stops or changes before completing some of the verses. It's very annoying. Although it doesn't happen with all of the verses. PLEASE fix this!
Best Bible app i have found for multiple versions and languages. It has customizable font, size, and speed of auto reading. This is especially helpful for those learning a new language. I use the esiest to read font, biggest size, and play the scripture portion very slowly, while I follow along reading the text. It has improved my pronunciation, reading recognition, and speed in reading. I am also very excited to know that all proceeds go towards developing new Bibles for more language groups.
I drive a lot for work. If I start the app when I'm not in service, the app plays downloaded resources less than quarter off time. When I am unable to load it, it gives me error telling me it's unable to connect to server. If I download books, I want to be able to be use this app connection free. Though I do appreciate and love dramatized versions. Not sure the thought behind the voice for Song of Songs (of Solomon) being an older woman.
Easy way to listen to God's Word, but unless you want only English, you're pretty much stuck with New Testament. Reading is also a pain, it's too easy to skip to the next chapter while just scrolling. There are several translations that indicate OT audio, however they don't have with OT audio or even text. I would recommend it as a diverse initial resource, but driving deeper will require visiting bible gateway or buying a translation in the language you need.
Audio doesn't line up with highlighted text, play/pause delays. If you want to just listen it'll be great, but I do better when reading along and that's just not possible. The audio doesn't line up with the text as it highlights, it's like watching a dubbed over movie. How everything is just on like a 3 second delay, that describes the app.
Everything was working well until yesterday I got a bug. The audio doesn't read the last verse and just move on to the next chapter with the timing of all the Bible chapters chopped off to 10 seconds shorter than the actual timing length for all the Bible chapters. I read the ESV version which I prefer. This happens in both my tablet and my Android phone. I also get the message, "An unknown error occurred. Please try again." Please fix this problem asap!
edit: same problems. || Thank you! Bug, it jumps to the top every verse, so I can't follow along. -- I only listen to the non-dramatized because the drama version isn't good and has so many readers and the music is inappropriate. But the audio for non-dramatized is ok and now I can listen to the Bible. This app helped me listen to the whole Bible so I can learn about God. By the way I would like to choose different speakers sometimes, but I couldn't find another app with better speakers.
Don't get me wrong I absolutely LOVE this app. I love how easy it is to understand and be able to listen along when I'm doing my makeup in the mornings. But after a few days of having no issues with it, it will stop loading the Bible portion. I have had to delete and re download the app serval times, and then I lose where I left off. Very frustrating, unfortunately I am done trying to get this app to work so a I'm hoosing to find something else.
I just deleted my old review from several years ago. I love the new app version now! It's a great app for learning and teaching about God! Very easy to navigate and listen to the Bible. Some of the biblical translations are in a dramatic format. By choosing one with music in the background you get the full dramatization affect. Every book, chapter and verse is acted out, with back ground sound effects.
I love that this app is free. No ads. I can choose from several versions. I also like that I can turn off the music, have the option of not having a dramatic reading, can change the speed of the reader's voice, that it will keep reading throughout additional chapters without timing out if I want. Thank you to the developers for this has been a great resource for me. Especially during sleepless nights. Please don't change. God bless.
I love the Bible narration. For someone like me with attention issues, I can listen to large chapters at once. The different voices and sound effects really take me to another place. But I had to take away two stars because the app is so glitchy. It crashes almost every time I use it. Sometimes the app does not automatically scroll with the scripture. This is very distracting and defeats the purpose of keeping me focused.
You can follow along in the Bible text as you listen to it being narrated. Several audio Bible versions, some with music/ background sounds. A huge number of languages to choose from. Includes clips from The Jesus Film. All this for free, with no ads. Update: Sadly, it no longer opens unless downloaded Bibles are removed. I tried on 2 different phones. I uninstalled, restarted, redownloaded a few times. Downloading was extremely slow this time. But it's still worth having bc of the narration.
It stopped working within about a week or two, after downloading two Bible versions. I was forced to download the audio (and perhaps the video) for the King James version, in order to get the text, so that version of the Bible required a ridiculous 3 gigabytes. It looks like this program is buggy and useless. It was fairly nice when it actually worked, but it was always extremely sluggish.
Only issue I have (but it's a big one) is that it can't handle connection interruptions. I use it when driving and if I drive away from my house and lose wifi but still with network, it stops playing and eventually force restarts the chapter, it won't pick up where it left off. Or if I drive thru a short area where there's no network it does the same thing. Very annoying, fix it if possible... I don't have that issue with other apps. Otherwise, love the way they recorded the ESV.
Lovely app! Currently my favorite audio Bible app. only reason I'm giving 4 starts is because the app frequently freezes and lags--notably when I advance chapters, try to add something to my playlists or when I switch the version of the Bible I'm using. I just switched books at it took just under 10 seconds for everything to load. I don't notice issues once the audio starts. Just seems to take a minute for the audio to be playable. I had the same on my last phone
