I gave this app a 5 star rating because you have the option to buy premium with special features, but you can do all of the basic functions without spending a dime! I am able to track my calories, exercise, and weight, which was the key reason I was looking for a calorie counting app. it is also good at keeping track of your goals and easily showing you your progress!
Reviews for Calorie Counter by Lose It!
← Back to Calorie Counter by Lose It!I have been logging with this app every day since September 2012. It has worked very well and helped keep my weight loss program on track. UPDATE: 7/11/25. lately the ads are becoming extremely annoying! Once they pop in you need to close and reopen the app. I have been using this app for many years without any problems. Very disappointed to say the least.
Pretty decent calorie counting and weight management. There are a lot of features, the main issue I have is the massive amount of advertisement even with the Premium edition. I've tried to reach out to the developers, with no luck. You are sent through an AI chat that ends up disconnecting you anyways. If you get this app just use the free version.
I've been using this app for a week now, and I'm actually seeing results with very little to no exercise. The app can get a bit glitchy, but it is easy to use and has a huge library of foods that you only have to scan the barcode on the product to enter. It honestly feels like a game to me where my calorie budget is my in-game currency that I'm using to "purchase" my meals. I'm loving this app!
It's been about 6 years since I used a calorie counting app, (MFP is the reason I never tried another until now). I love this app so far. It's been a week and it's really helpful to be able to log foods so easily. I remember spending hours creating recipes on My Fitness Pal for simple foods. My one suggestion would be to add a few options. I'm breastfeeding and require a couple hundred extra calories a day due to this. I wish I could include that info to better customize my weight loss needs.
WORST, most invasive and revolting ads, most spyware-ridden app I have ever used. It randomly loads full page ads that you CANNOT close, and if you touch them to try to close them, it takes you to the play store and begins downloading an app that you DID NOT WANT. Years ago it was fabulous. now, it's unusable. IF ONLY I COULD GIVE IT ZERO STARS.
The free trial days, it was great. It synced my calories burned with my Garmin. It didn't sync my water amount, but that was okay. As soon as I paid for a subscription it no longer pulls calories burned from my Garmin I had to log out of the app and back in it finally read my Garmin but I lost the last 6 days of food entry. You have to back up with a screenshot of everything you entered so you can reenter it, which sadly I didn't know, so I just last several days of entries very frustrating
I've used Lose It for years now. I have a premium subscription. The most recent update is *terrible*. When you go to add food items to your meal, there is now so much whitespace around everything that only *two items* are visible with the keyboard up. I use My Foods constantly because I can't trust the community items, and it now resets to "all" *every time* (maddening). I regret my lifetime purchase now, it's so much more frustrating to use.
There are a couple of things about this app that are good. It's easy to use.Its user-friendly. if there's one thing about this app that I don't like is they have a limited Information as far as the various types of protein bars or snacks or foods that are out there. So you end up having to punch them in yourself manually, the other problem this app seems to have is that some of the foods it'll give a higher percentage of fat or carbohydrates, then what is on the packaging so you get an inaccurate
this app is a life saver. I've been using this as a NON premium member and came to the conclusion that you absolutely do not need premium to lose weight. I've lost 11 lbs in 1 month using it. i know it's mostly water weight first, but progress is always good!! this app creates healthy eating habits and calorie intake awareness, also teaching you measurements and how to space out your calories aswell. I've also got my mom started on this too. overall, amazing app and I'm very grateful.
I've used this for years but lately the ads have been after every. single. thing. i. do. Log one thing and it's an ad immediately. Close the day out and I don't even get to see the little counter for the day finished for more than half a second before an ad shows up. I scan one thing and it's an ad. This is insufferable. I'm going to go back to pen and paper if this continues to be insufferable.
As a premium user, this app has been great for logging, tracking and storing my homemade recipes over the past nearly 10 years. I do think it lacks some features. I wish it would give me the option to have my calories adjust based on over or under eating in days prior, and sometimes the display is hard to navigate on the goals tab, but aside from that it does just what I need it to do.
I switched from MyFitnessPal when they started charging for a significant number of features that had been part of the basic app. Now I've switched from this app to VirtualGym's Food app for the same reason. I understand the need for revenue, but being a diabetic, I only care about carbs. I don't care about all the other bells & whistles they removed, like bar code scanning. Removing nutrition info was the final straw. Sorry to leave an otherwise good system.
The voice entry option is GREAT in the app. A lot of times knowing I can just rattle off the things I remember eating for a meal and that it'll get them right (including amount) super quick is a big thing that has kept me going. I DO pay for the premium version, but it also feels worth it. They have a lifetime premium option as well if that is something you are looking for. This app has grown a LOT since I had started using it about 15 years ago on an iPod touch 😁
I've been using Lose-It back and forth. I lose weight then I gain it and I come back. Each time has gotten easier than the last, and this time I'm on pace to reach my goal with the assist of exercise. The app has a lot of customization and plenty of features making it easy to use while also providing a lot of features. Having premium is in my opinion worth it, as the extra tracking helped me to reduce frequent cravings. overall it's a 10/10 for me. Beats any diet or cook book I've used.
Shady cancellation practices. I wanted to cancel my yearly auto renew. The app tells me to log into the website by clicking 'login at top right'. That option isn't there, nothing is in the top right. Clicking the 'become a member or log in' opens up Google play to install the app. I've been clicking around the website for ten minutes and can't find a way to log in that doesn't direct me to the app, which I can't cancel the subscription from. This would have been a positive review otherwise.
I like the app but I'm not paying $40 just to have a barcode scanner and the ability to connect my Fitbit. I can do those for free on MFP. It is on sale right now but I can't justify paying $20 for something I get free on another app. If you have to pay for those options then you should offer a free trial. That way we make sure we like it before committing.
I was very impressed my this app at first. The layout is good and practical and the database is nicely fleshed out. I started to get a bit unhappy when I found that barcode scanning was behind the paywall, which is unusual for this sort of app from my experience. Over time such annoyances have added up. I had a lot more to say but hit the limit. Put more succinctly, it's a great app that's dragged down badly by its choices in regard to monetization. Still usable, but irritating.
the app has a lot of data points, almost too many. it made navigation difficult. furthermore, syncing with my Samsung health app, steps, and weight was spotty at best. I had to manually enter all my data that is being recorded elsewhere, so it took more time than it was worth to use. I even paid for the premium app and still cosmetic get data to sync properly.
The interface or UI is way too complicated. I suggest you check Carb Manager. Their interface is way easier to understand. You can easily see how many macronutrients you've had and how many you need to reach your goal same way goes with caloric counting. I say it to the developers of this app. I like it because it has potential but it's still way too complicated to understand what I'm doing, where to go to tweak certain diet goals, etc.
