Reviews for Carbon - Macro Coach & Tracker

← Back to Carbon - Macro Coach & Tracker

Have had it for a while great while it works, I constantly get logged out and have to uninstall my app. I'm reaching out to support and they just have me uninstall the app. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't but im paying $10 a month for an app that partially works Updated to 4 stars after carbon reached out. They're giving me a couple of months free for the issues and looking into it. Don't find that service or dedication much around anymore and is appreciated.

Came back to macros after not tracking at all during the pandemic and this app is by far the best one I've tried. I trust the knowledge behind the macro ratios and they are consistent with what I've done in the past, but it allows me to track without having to do the math myself. I highly recommend this app for anyone who wants to track macros in addition to calories, it makes the process really simple. I rarely pay for apps, but this one is a decent price and well worth the investment.

So, I posted a review based on initial review and issues. The developer reached out a few days after and they helped fix some of the issues but not all of them. (I tried to update it but my revuew disapprared) Anyway, I do like many aspects of this app. I really think they shld consider adding some way to track exercise even if it doesn't have any impact on the daily calories....it wld just be helpful to see what my activity is over time.

Great app. Unlike all the tracking apps, it actively adjusts macros every week according to your personal metabolism. It is the next best thing to an actual coach at a fraction of the price. I have lost 35 pounds in 6 months eating 2800 calories a day. I have a ton of flexibility in what I eat as long as it fits the macros the coach gives me. This means I am able to stick to the plan much more easily than I was able to with the tracking app I was using that told me I should be eating 1800 calories a day. A number that didn't change as I exercised more or lost weight. In addition to the great coaching, the built in food tracker is super flexible. I've seen reviews where people complained about not being able to track micronutrients or create recipes. Both are false. The tracker has tons of scannable items and if I can't scan it, it takes seconds to put it in myself and then its there forever. Creating recipes is simple and quick as well. Can't recommend this app enough. In addition to the app, the Facebook group is super supportive and informative and the app creators are constantly putting out very useful free information.

This app is better than any coaching I've had in the past. I've learned how to pick foods that are filling when my calories are lower so that i don't go over my macro targets as easily. I've been consistently losing weight, very slowly, but consistently. I also love that i have learned how to balance my macros across the week to make everything fit, but keeping in mind the differences in macros and how they are metabolized.

i feel like this app makes tracking much more simple compared to the likes of my fitness pal. Additionally I find that I use it more often perhaps because I pay for it? Not sure just know im sticking to it more than I ever did mfp. Its interesting after tracking your food to see how much you calories you stuff down your gullet, hard to imagine eating as much as I used to now that I am seeing the calories.

This is app is great! It's not a tracker, it's a coach. It helps take the guess work out of macro and calorie counting while also allowing some flexibility. The best thing about this app besides the coach, is the fact that you're able to add your own custom foods and meals into the app but they don't get entered into the main database. This means that other user's food entries will not appear when I search for a food, which makes the database less cluttered and more accurate. 100% worth the $$$!

It's an okay app. I like the ease of logging foods in, because unlike myfitnesspal, users cant flood the search results with their own sloppily written-in foods. The main downside for me is that I'd really like to be able to track my micronutrients as well. The app only allows you to look at the micronutrients of individual items and not how much you've taken in total, which myfitnesspal does for free. If you're looking for simplicity, this is it. If you need more, it's not worth the $10 price.

It's a good app, especially if your training is relatively flat over time. If your training is gradually increasing in intensity/duration and you are looking for an app to learn those changes and adapt to them, Carbon doesn't seem to do it. For example I ate 150 daily calories over the recommendation for a week, lost 1.5 pounds, and nothing changed. The next week I ate 300 daily calories over, maintained weight, and at check in there was no adjustment again. It's not really learning.

pretty good, I like the idea of having dynamic calorie and macro targets to "dial in" the nutrition. Also, tracking macros and calories is a great idea and this seems to be one of the best at doing it. I think a more robust/intuitive way of setting your initial goal/targets is needed. E.g., some small changes in how you answer the questions leads to drastic differences in the recommendations.

I'm two months in and I made a full switch from MFP. I get to choose which high day I want and it fixes the macros for all other days, and the coach gave me the exact numbers I needed after the first week. I couldn't make the switch from MFP at first because I've been using it since 2011 and all my foods, recipes, and my weight data for the past 9 years are there, but it's worth the switch. Tip: every time you cook an old recipe, add it to carbon and you'll have your ful database in no time.

I love this app! It has been life changing. Previously I was paying for a coach & MyFitnessPal. This gave me the option of both and for way cheaper! The app is extremely easy to use. And it takes out all the guess work! Granted it will take a few weeks to learn your body. But I love how much control you have. From picking the macro split, to adjusting your calories throughout the week, this thing does it all. The food log has a huge selection and adding food/recipes is super easy! Just get it!

Loving this app so far, now that I'm consistently using it. Yes, you may need to enter some foods that are not in the database yet, but that means you can ensure the nutrition information is correct (a major issue I've found with MFP; having such a large database built by users has allowed a lot of incorrect information to be logged.) I also love that it adjusts calories up around menstruation, which really helps with my overall energy during that time of the month.

3 months of using the app combined with increased activity has helped me with my cut and lose 20 lbs! I am going to maintaince now and using the app to keep me there! I love this more than my fitness pal because I'm not tempted to use "calories burned" through exercise to eat more (trackers are often consistent by up to 93%) and I can adjust my calories up for when I go out and it will automatically adjust the upcoming days. Really great app!

Want to love but I eat a wide variety of foods and had a hard time finding most in the database. I've added the majority of the foods myself and need to separately look up ingredients on packages or Google to create them. Seems less comprehensive than MyFitnessPal for a lot of "international" foods, takeout meals, and prepackaged foods I typically eat or use. For example, I couldn't find the nutrition profile for the beef plate, and what existed didn't specify grams per serving.

The single most effective tool I've ever found to help me lose weight and keep it off. They still need to add more data for the barcode scanner since things still don't always pop up, but if you're having issues finding the right amount of calories to lose weight this will help, you just have to use it and stay consistent. Thank you Carbon Fitness Team.

I worked with a nutrition coach for a year at $125 monthly. Progress wasn't always made and I was burned out. I found out about Carbon on Instagram and decided to give it a try. Let me tell you, this is NOT a simple food tracker. It is a smart coach that will give you customized macros based on the progress you want to make and even takes into account things like your period. In your weekly check in, it might make adjustments if needed. For less than $100 a year, totally worth it!

I love the functionality of the app and how it is all set up. However, how can you put a product out in the market, charge top dollar and out of 10 products I scan, all of them have the wrong nutritional information?!?! Dr.Layne and team, please fix this, it is annoying and frustrating. Get a better database to pull the info from. Edit: more food items are being included but still, sometimes you acan an item and something else shows up. Overall, not.bad 8/10

I've been using the app for about a month so far. The check in thing is cool and I feel like the macro targets are really spot on for me. The only annoying thing is the food search is pretty bad. Like, I will type the exact name and it won't pop up. To the point where searching for certain foods is a pain, and it discourages logging food... which is kinda the whole point. So, if they could make that better then I would probably keep using it. But at this point I will probably go back to Lose It!

I'm sure this app works for some people, but it didn't work for me. I stayed consistent for a long time and showed absolutely no progress. When that happened, the app would decrease my calories. That makes sense, absolutely. But when the app takes you down to 1200 calories and requires you to still eat 120-140 grams of protein and only 100 grams of carbs and 40 grams of fat, it reaches a point of no longer being sustainable.
