So far, I haven't had any issues. There is a small fee to deposit physical money into the account, which for me isn't a big deal since I have direct deposit anyway. The biggest thing I like about the app is that after you establish direct deposit, you gradually are allowed for overdraft (which is overdrive here) and there isn't a fee for it which is nice. I would recommend if you're looking for a mobile banking type app to manage your money.
Reviews for Current - Mobile Banking
← Back to Current - Mobile BankingThe app itself is beautiful and easy to use. With regard to Current as a banking service. I love the 4% interest on the savings pods. There are two things that I think need improving. First is, the bank to bank transfer time is very slow despite a 1-2 day promise. Ally to SoFi - 24 hours, Ally to Current - 4 to 5 days. That is very annoying. Where is the money in this "float" period. Second, Current needs a web application as well, in my opinion. Being limited to mobile is not ideal.
So apparently, the app doesn't allow app based phone numbers. But it lets you enter one for your information. But they recently changed it to where it won't accept that number anymore at all when i'm trying to log in. I've been locked out of my account, and talking to customer service, just to have them do nothing at all, and stop answering me completely every time. That's ridiculously poor customer service to leave someone unable to access their bsnk account completely. Still can't get in
Better than most on-line banking apps. However, it is confusing on how they do their current credit cards and credit building process. I researched all of the information available online, and it still didn't quite make much sense. Other than that, it's a good card to get. Nothing special over the others, just different tiny perks or ease of using the app.
Sat on this for a while hoping it was just a bug with the app. Used it for a minute and never had a problem until the beginning of this year. Won't let me log in, keeps saying session timed out and to log in again. I do that, even wait a bit, even uninstalled and reinstalled. It also won't let me try any other way to log in aside from my number either. Not a problem w the card being expired bc I can still be sent money and subscriptions still draft. Can't even open it and contact any support.
BEWARE!!! They charge fees for just being a customer each month but then also charge fees to add money each time. Additionally, when you add money it takes upwards of 1 week before you can see or have access to your cash. The app is constantly glitching and customer service is NO help. I don't understand how you can deal with people's money yet the only way they can contact you is through chat!!!
I selected a free account during sign up, except I was immediately issued a premium card and signed up for premium checking. Don't link your bank during sign up as you may be charged for the wrong account type! Edit: Support did indeed help me get my plan changed quickly, but the screen for selecting different account types hides the basic plan. When you do see the basic plan, there is no possible way to select the wrong one. There was no user error on my part.
Horrible... Started out great, I definitely enjoyed it. Then, out of nowhere my card was suspended while trying to transfer money between my bank card and current. There was no explanation as to why and when I called the number on the back of the card an automated voice stated my card was under review and someone will be reaching out soon. It's been several months and so far I have heard nothing. I also have money still on my current card that I can't use or withdraw. Don't waste you time.
You won't find CDs, mutual funds, or other "advanced" banking here, but if you're looking for a simple, easy to use online bank that doesn't charge insane overdrafts and is actively expanding options for customers to save and even earn money, Current is the way to go. The lack of security features like 2FA do concern me a little, but that's truly the only complaint I've had with Current in the 2 years I've had it.
Great. I screwed my credit up years ago, when I was deep in drug use. I couldn't get a bank account or anything so I went with this over chime, and Its amazing they help you build credit on the app. You can deposit money at stores using the barcodes, then when you buy something it essential uses. Your card as a credit card. But sets the funds to the side to pay the bill. It's really awesome
Current provides services that'll leave you with a smile and much more. There's no hidden fees, instant free cash transfer, and dual card account (and still, simply differ from each other). The credit builder idea is excellent!!! I would recommend this app to those that is tight on money and needs to free sign up to get an unsecured credit card joint with a debit card.
Great service, if you love waiting 8-12 days for your money to be available for use. The line they feed you at the beginning that funds will be available quicker after you use the service for a little while is BS (or by 'little while' they mean more than 8 months). Also there's no way to access anything without the app on your phone (no computer login).
I thought it was great at first until few days later a foreign fee popped up for every single transaction I had made ranging from 15 cents to over 50 for every single transaction. not to mention you can link to PayPal and venmo but can't transfer anything from current to other accounts unless via ach which is taking almost 5 days. cards are.very cool and attractive but it's basically like stealing to charge a fee days later. Can't keep track of your balance.
Easy to use, no major issues with sending and receiving money from direct deposits. Transferring money from this account to another bank or vice versa, is easy to do. The three savings accounts that come with the account, are nice to have. When you have money coming out of your account for bills, you get a notification/reminder that a payment will be withdrawn from your account.
volatile. The Build Card and easy to use interface make Current a solid option. Unfortunately, they are entirely too volatile when you have options like Varo, who is an actual bank bound by rules and regulations. Despite never missing a payment, or paying late, they reduced my cash advance by $500. Customer Service responds with answers you can find on the FAQ page, meaning they can't help you with absolutely anything else. Current has lost me as a customer, but its not like they care anyway.
amazing! I could NOT get a credit card for a long time due to having no credit. I had no activity on my credit for 7+ years so everything was blank. I couldn't get any credit card to approve me. I found Current and have been building my credit ever since. this app is so easy to use, clean interface, and actually gives you a chance to build your credit back up. I will be with Current for a long time.
Check Advance is terrible DO NOT use this feature if you plan to get the same amount next payday. You will be taken to a lower amount without any kind of notification or warning when it happens. Then, potentially be out hundreds of dollars you were depending on. No other bank I have heard of tells you that you are approved for $350 then takes that amount back down to $50 without ever being late or missing a payment. Then never notifies you to the change so you can prepare for that loss.
Customer service is sub-par. They give you a textbook answer if you have an issue and then claim they can't do anything. I have increased my direct deposit every pay period, and they are inconsistent with payday advance limits. On two occasions, they increased my limit and then reduced it even with increased deposits. They claim they review my account to increase my advance, but that hasn't happened. Everything else is satisfactory, just tough they don't help when I need them.
Almost perfect banking! The app covers nearly all my needs. There are no monthly "maintenance fee" anymore, Overdraft protection is awesome, and the fee free ATMs are awesome. I love they added within the year for connection with plaid services. Things to work on is to get our Debit Cards to work with Zelle and of couple of other services. Edit 7/2025: Still no zelle support and it's pretty annoying when you don't use your build card you get a notification why you should use the build card!
Really disappointed in this app. I set up direct deposit and everything (for reference, I make six figures a year) and the advance offered to me was a meager $50 instead of anything close to the $500 advertised. In addition to that disappointment, the app is constantly sending notifications about features that are now available and when you click them, you find out that option is already exhausted. Update down to 1 star. Absolutely deceptive service with no human support. Avoid at all costs.
