I have used e-Sword for PC for more than a decade, and was pleasantly surprised that e-Sword for Android is nearly as powerful. Why this isn't the number one Android Bible app is beyond me. It is phenomenal how powerful e-Sword for Android is. There are a lot of free modules available, including at least a dozen English Bible translations. I find it indispensable for biblical and theological research when using my laptop isn't feasible. It's well worth the three dollars I paid for it.
Reviews for e-Sword: Bible Study to Go
← Back to e-Sword: Bible Study to GoAt this time, very disappointed that there is no control for choosing a preferred reference in the parallel window. The resources available are worth the three stars, maybe four. But the limitation in not being able to choose what reference we want in the parallel window kills the experience. I'll keep the app, however, in hopes that this function will soon be added.
While I really enjoy using your app. It's amazing, all of the features it has for an android phone. However, PLEASE FIX the ability to access the N1,N2 and N3 notes. Ever since I downloaded the last update, I haven't been able to use the majority of them. 😔. Otherwise I'm happy with your application. Thank you and GOD BLESS YOU ALL.
I love, love, love this app! I have payed for some high priced Bible software programs that are so hard to learn that they are basically useless to me. E-Sword is perfect! No frills, no fluff, easy to use with great content! It has pretty much everything that I need! I have this downloaded on my PC and Ipad and was so excited when I seen that it was available for my Android phone!
I'm blown away. To me, this is easily the best overall Bible app available right now. Lifeway wins in free content, Bible versions, and reading plans. Blue Letter Bible might be better for in depth word study. But E-Sword dwarfs the competition in highlighting, tagging, note taking, and search features. It also has really slick integration between its commentaries, maps, devotionals, etc. With the amount of free content mixed with optional purchases, this seems like the best main Bible app
This is a great app. There's 1 issue that I've run into so far and that's concerning the "notes." When trying to place notes next to the scriptures, I'm often faced with bugs 🐛. Using the different font options(B, I, U) for certain words would change the font for all the other words. I'd be happy to give this app 5🌟 if you can fix these 🐛 🪲 🐞.
Naturally, it's a bit different than the desktop version, but I'm so UTTERLY THANKFUL that this has finally come to Android! I went over to biblesupport to download about fifty or so other Bible versions, dictionaries, and various reference books. I could not use modules that end with an "x" (bblx, dctx, etc.) as they seem to not be recognized by the app, so I had to go redownload them all, and use the modules ending with an "i" (bbli, dcti, lexi, etc.). I didn't bother with .exe files or zip files. I'll have to try those later. I am deliriously happy that this has finally come to us in Android form. I guess I said that already. :-) I'll be spending my weekend exploring it all!
Having used e-Sword on Windows for several years, I am finding the Android version one of the best I've seen. It has many different Bibles, commentaries, dictionaries and other study tools and the most customization and easy to use modular setup. For only being in ver 2 and already impressively feature-rich with active development promising more to come and great reviews. My only request is to allow import of my notes and bookmarks from the Windows version. Thank you and keep up the impressive work!
Originally rated this low but since an update was released, the module import function is working. That was the primary feature I wanted and needed. Always have liked this software, it's very comprehensive. The cost of it is less than a cup of coffee. Can't go wrong on that. Thanks for the quick fix! I'm using esword on all my devices now and it's fantastic!
I've been using e-sword for PC for years and love it. I just realized it was available for Android. LOVE the app. I can switch between versions instantly. Searches are super fast. Strong's and Thayer's are quickly available. I still like my laptop and the PC version, but I always have my phone in my pocket and the android version is as good as it gets! I highly recommend e-sword to everyone who asks about Bible apps.
The app is nice but it needs the ability to start the voice narration from the selected verse, instead of starting over from the beginning. It's inconvenient when you have to reference another passage and go back. The narration could also use a highlighter/cursor that follows each word spoken by the narrator to help us stay on track. I'm sure ADHD people would appreciate it too. I use it on the go, but I prefer the PC version.
This is easily the best Bible study app out there. Spend two minutes reading the tutorial, and you'll be good to go. Everything Bible at your fingertips on or offline. Attach notes, catagorize or flag verses you want to memorize, etc., etc. And NO permissions needed to install... unlike every single other app out there. Buy it, and you're left alone. That's how it should be when you pay for it. Thanks you all!
Great product, very easy to use. configure your choice of references and source material. there are many available resources that are completely free, and some that have a small fee. available on several hosts so you can find the best way for you, I have it on my phone, pc, and an iPad I bought for studies. it is NOT constantly asking for donations, I'll admit I have given money multiple times just because I like the product so much.
Does not sync with desktop. I've been using the desktop version for years, and not one of my notes or highlights carries over to the Android app, as there's no way to sign in to associate one with the other. This is kind of like a stand alone Bible Reader. Which is fine, and worthy of support. But for a mobile app, I'm very surprised that the only audio playback option is the Bible reading, and not the commentaries.
I have used this for years on my computer. I'm so excited it is now available for my Android phone. There are lots of options for doing a Bible study: journal, study notes, Strongs, Thayers, etc. I like the night theme option Lots of highlighting option. Note: highlighting is for the whole verse only. They don't highlight words or portions of scriptures. Lots of free Bible downloads in MANY languages. I could go on but I encourage you to try it out for yourself.
Love it! Fast, easy to use, and a lot of free resources. And paid premium modules are easy to download and you do not have to pay again if you already purchased them for your PC. This is only version 1.0. This app will only get better. Excited that this is finally available for Android! Thank you!! UPDATE (2/19/22). The version 2.0 is excellent! Now we are able to import 3rd party modules (cmti, bbli files NOT cmtx, bblx). Also able to highlight, bookmark, tag by double-tapping the verse.
Disappointed 😞 This version is not as user-friendly as the older free model. I am not able to use a lot of the Commentaries as I was in the old version. Especially disappointing is the fact of feeling they don't care. I did reach out some months ago by email and was made to feel that I was a bother, and they stopped communicating. I guess after so many just press here or there, it's not worth giving a person their time. I do enjoy the Bibles included in the app.
Just ... WOW. Perhaps a year ago I used e-Sword on my PC, but you know we can't take the time to open our computers every time we want to read words of life, so perhaps a month ago I thought I would try it for Android. I am extremely impressed. The basic app is amazing and easy to use, with great tools for memorization, notes, devotions, references, and more, but I have also purchased additional devotionals, commentaries, and Bible versions. This app puts a spark back in reading God's Word
After searching thru several apps where they either have intrusive ads or it's a launcher and takes over your phone, I found one app that was ad free that was simple and limited. So I decided to look into the premium ad free apps and found this app. I must say I am quite impressed upon first use. And I'm not that easy to impress. All the versions of the Bible and the reference material that can be downloaded for offline use for free (with small purchase of the app) is incredible. Thank you.
Very handy! Love it so much. I would like to see it slightly more user-friendly in terms of the layout, design and features. For example, the horizontal scrolling bar at the bottom was not the best choice in my opinion. That said, it's overall the best bible app, far and above the rest. And at only the cost of a convenience store snack, the value is there. Can't beat it. (Edited from 4 stars once I figured out how to delete memory verses)
