As everyone has said, it's the end of an era. We knew the day would come, but I thought they would at least still make it usable on a free tier. But nope, the only way you can actually finish a book is by paying. It's a shame, but it was expected. Before I uninstalled, I noticed a decline in voice quality. The weird humming and false starts would happen more frequently, but they were still ignorable for the most part. I'll definitely miss this app.
Reviews for ElevenReader - Voice Reader
← Back to ElevenReader - Voice ReaderEdit: The new credit system is disappointing. I knew free was too good to last, but the credits needed to read a simple ebook makes it more costly than just using audible. It's a great reader if you're going to use it for 30 minutes a month, but more than that it's priced too high. Uninstalled. Sad day. I'm sure a new startup will come and figure out a model that works. Back to Audible and Android system voice. Original Review: Best Reader out there. No joke. I can't believe It's free.
as of yet I've not found a flaw at all with this service it's very impressive and it doesn't seem to have any downsides. edit 5/23/2025: feels like you guys bait and switched us. This went from telling me to use it everyday and setting goals for me to use it multiple days in a row, to now updated I'm completely out of credits and it's telling me I need to buy more. Why not give us temporary trials instead of tricking us into thinking it's free? I just recommended to others as a free service.
Before the update, I loved that I could listen to my writing as well as listen to stories nonstop. The voices are amazing with the level of expression they can do. However, after the update, the time to listen was shortened too much, and the waiting period for the refresh was way longer, thanks to the limited time. I miss the fully free and high-quality with no time limit for listening to stories, websites, and many more.
Edit: this used to be free... now it's an absurd amount of $$$. When it was free... it was a great way to basically turn anything into an audiobook. I really love the voice "Peter", he's my favorite one that I've found. He occasionally gets things wrong, but overall is very enjoyable to listen to. Suggestions: Add a way to edit the pronunciation of certain words. Be able to set different characters voices so you know who is talking.
This app is amazing! Not only is it great for reading text to speech but, there are so many different voice variations to choose from. The app is packed full of features that I had no idea they offered such as, and array of ebooks to listen to for free, among other things. I suggest you check the app out for yourself to explore and enjoy everything it has to offer, FOR FREE! Enjoy... P.S. Thanks (Eleven Labs) for releasing this dope product! I'll be using it as long as it's available to do so..
A very good reader, even if you do need to pay to get extra listening time. My only gripe is that there's no way to correct the pronunciation of uncommon words and names that the AI doesn't recognize. If there was a way to edit pronunciation of certain words this would be my perfect app.
I keep seeing you say we get 2 free hours a week but everytime I login to check I have 0 minutes. I haven't used this app in months so I don't understand what the issue is. I keep updating the app thinking that's the problem, but I'm still at 0 listening hours. Even referring a friend got me nowhere. Was it just a one time credit of 2 hours, or did you block my account over a negative review? I don't understand what the problem is. Pure optimism is the ONLY reason I haven't uninstalled this yet.
Oh god I was so happy to have this app because that was the best free app that allowed me to listen to my school material but now it's freaking paid subscription. I can already see how they'll start pushing the limits until it's completely unusable without subscription. 4* because it's still a the best tool out there for realistic voice reading and because for now it's still usable for free.
Good, lots of places for improvement. Number of voices seem limited for TTS. Filter / searching for british or american voices is terrible. AI halucination is here too - between paragraphs it makes sounds, which are creepy. Pronounciation of the same name can be defferent based on the paragraph or if there an exclamation after it. With these and many more flaws, the yearly cost for Ultra is too high.
trying this out. I uploaded an Epub file, and it did a good job converting it into its format. I selected Burt Reynolds, and it is amazing. there are only a few mispronounceation. I have tried some of the other "celebrity" voices, and they are not as good. That said, they are improving all the time. Do the trial and see how it is for yourself. It is worth it.
Lovin it so far! Im able to copy and paste the text I want it to read and within seconds I have an excellent quality audio version. Im using the free version, for now. Though it has some time restrictions for the free version, they're pretty generous so far. The voices without time restrictions are horrible, but i haven't had to use them yet thankfully!
Used to love using this app for hours daily, but it's now locked behind a subscription. Go figure. EDIT: I was well aware that the app would eventually be a paid service and was fully eager to support it when the time came. However, what I wasn't expecting was that I'd have to pay $22 a MONTH!!! to pick up where I left off in terms of my reading hours. On top of that, ever since the update, it signs me out every single time I open the app. My entire experience has been downgraded ever since.
I really had to dig to find this app, and that shocks me because it is by far the best Ai book reader available for android. On top of that, you get 10 free hours of narration right away. No sign up required. 10 hours is the length of a full book. The only minor suggestion I could offer is that I would like to see the screen reader enhanced with more options for font, background image, size, and page flipping animations. But this is a minor suggestion. This is the best reader on the market.
I love this app. I tried several before finding and staying with ElevenReader. There are a few glitches with the voice making noises in-between words. Sometimes it sounds organic as though a person is humming before they answer. Others not so much. I don't know if it's the app alone or some timing issue between my phone & the app. In the end it's not enough to decrease my rating. I was ecstatic to find the "pronunciation" option. Although, so far it won't work. I'll keep trying.
Overall, by far the best text to speech app I've found. The voice options sound almost real and even occasionally have some inflection. I'm using the free version, so expectations are low, but some issues are the pronunciation guide doesn't work consistently and there is no way to test a new voice without using up hours. Also, it regularly says I'm offline even though I'm not, so while I can upload documents, I can't change voices.
Really nice voices. Buying by the hour is pretty reasonable. Searching for voices is a little hard, you can browse lists but I don't see a way to sort by pitch or accent. The app is a little unstable on my phone--if I pause and go to another app, it closes and doesn't stay open to unpause on the notification screen like most music apps. It also drains the battery so much. AI is power intensive so I expected it somewhat, but an hour of listening takes my phone down at least 25% battery.
I really like this app, the voices are smoother than any other I've tried. But I can't give this app more than 3 stars due to all of the issues I've experienced in just 2 days. Between paragraphs the AI goes into turrets mode, it will freeze up mid article, some sections of text will just get skipped over two or three paragraphs at a time, and it absolutely hates lengthy articles of text. Fix these issues and you'll have a paying customer.
The voices are really nice and pretty smooth. however, uploading a file leads to the format getting garbled, and the voice adds long pauses because of unnecessary new lines it adds. Also, dialogue in quotes found in the text leads the voice to say "um" or a guttural sound at times. File importing needs some major reworking. If these issues can be fixed, this could be a 5 star app.
This is exactly the app I was looking for. I can't believe how well this works. so far I'm loving it. I kept asking myself, what's the catch? Found some: 1. App consumes a lot of resources. my phone is perpually warm to touch when I'm using it. it also wildly drains battery. I'm on S25Ultra. So much so that my phone reported excessive resource warning. 2. Voices sometimes automatically and randomly changes tone and pitches. like the voice started running. hope these 2 can be addressed
